Definitely! I am excited about it but the fact that tech isn't really new (same exact unit inside manument) makes it not as impressive to me personally. But an absolutely NECESSARY addition to commercial equipment.
Great video Lance! Just a couple of adjustments. The EK43 has alway had cast burrs as standard. We have greatly improved our casting process to eliminate warping in recent years to ensure higher quality, what you were referring to. The Omnia comes with the standard EK burrs, as in the current EK43. These burrs have been incredibly popular and have been designed to cover a wide range of coffees from amazing espresso to filter. The pre 2015 burr was a filter only burr that was also cast. There is many baristas out there who request we re-release this burr quite often. In fact, many have not actually tried it but the online community have created quite a buzz around it making it legendary… Some have even attempted to replicate it. Back then we reacted to the fact that the 2015 burrs were great for filter coffee but not a great all rounder due to its narrow application window and therefore did not cover the wider demands of our customers brewing espresso. If there is enough demand we could consider remaking the pre 2015 burr. Perhaps we should put it to a public vote to gauge interest? If we get enough demand we could open a preorder and remake it. Again great video and was a pleasure to meet you and Hugo at the booth ❤️
I definitely didn't get that with our conversation! I was under the impression all the burrs were largely tool steel and cast were relegated to lab sweet burrs (which are very well known to be warped often) I vote you bring back the pre2015.
great video as always. you’re one of the few creators who actually gets inside the machines at the expo rather than just talking about them. makes such a difference in video quality!
@@nittygritty7434 I have heard that SSP will fit, but the back of the burr has a bit of a gap compared to the Mazzer's. Hi there! I was really surprise with the Ascaso boilerless machines, very quick heating and very stable output. Also their new H64 grinder, very simple but surprisingly efficient, and now it really match their machines!
Exciting stuff! Thanks for sharing! I think I am most interested in seeing out the boilerless espresso machine pans out and if the tech will make machines smaller and more affordable to more people
Love your stuff Lance but you can't have "550 Watts an hour". Think of Watts as a flow of energy analogous to litres per second, but in this case Joules per second or energy per second. If you meant it would use 550 Watts continuously for an hour ie use 0.55 kWhrs of energy, that would make sense. Apologies if you already know all this and just misspoke.
Lance!!!! Thanks for the video. How would you compare the Philos to the Ceado e37SD? It’s 95% for espresso and 5% for drip/aeropress coffee. Thanks for your awesome channel!
Looking to buy the Niche grinder, using it for espresso. Is the duo with flat burr set worth paying extra $100 instead of the zero with conical burr set?
I don’t care about the adjustment dial - I’m thrilled to see a company like Mazzer in the prosumer single-dose market. So many of the options are coming from completely new companies like Zerno, or their companies (Timemore, MHW-3Bomber) that don’t have experience manufacturing robust electric grinders.
To be fair, the fact that burrs from the big manufacturers need aligned by the buyer isn't confidence inspiring. Happy to see new gear, but the QC is continually disappointing with few exceptions.
You should though. An adjustment dial so far away from the burrs means lots of distance which would mean more play overtime which means subtle changes overtime which has the potential to be awful.
Finally someone talking about Maro Model 1 and the new ACS Falcon which i am really interested since i don‘t have a space for the Vostok. This looks awesome. And if you say that the price of the Faclcon will be around 2000€… i‘ll drop some money on that
I'm most excited about the Mazzer grinder, that thing looks really cool. The Maro is also awesome, making a Decent that's also noob friendly is a great idea. Btw, I love your "back in COVID times" phrasing, makes it sound very old timey 🤣 Honestly though, I think the Tone machine might be the most exciting innovation to me, even though I'm sure I'll never buy that machine. If they can truly go no-boiler, and pull a new type of cold esprsso, that's really exciting for not just the industry, but home barista, too! Hopefully that kind of tech will make it's way into more machines if it's successful
Yeah! I'd so I'm most excited about the tone, but it's not most exciting. I say this because that tech has been around for a while. It's about time someone implemented it into a commercial machine!
I understand that you may not see this, but with respect to the tone I was wondering why there is such excitement about these new fast heating (on/off) espresso machines, like the one James Hoffmann reviewed a few weeks ago. I understand the practicality of being able to heat up water in a instant for a shot and the economic benefits this would have in saving energy but surely this technology already has existed with thermoblocks and thermocoils. I was wondering what the big difference is between this new technology that is being developed and the technology that already existed in machines like the BDB (is it the accuracy and PID control??)
The excitement isn't at the tech. I feel I said this in the video. The excitement is a company FINALLY using it in a commercial machine. Quick heating has been around since the 40s (no boiler espresso machines). Why continue to use boilers in commercial environments when they're on literally 12 hours daily? Nonsense.
Model 1 looks technologically incredible and I love the customization, reminds me of a Tesla, but call me old fashioned but sometimes you need a physical button. That's actually something that bothers me with the Tesla, not enough physical buttons. I would have liked a mix of the 2 or at least a physical button or lever to start/stop coffee and steam.
@@BensCoffeeRants thought there was something about shorter heat up time / group head temperature stability but wondering if that’s beneficial enough to warrant waiting to buy one
@@austinbrowning1022Cool I haven't heard anything about it yet. The old Synchronika seemed like it had great temp stability to me, I thought despite people talking about e61 temp stability being poor (probably applies more to hx machines).

Great video, the Maro seems like a strange value proposition since it's targeted at people who don't know how to make espresso, yet are willing to spend $4500 on an espresso machine but I hope for them those are out there since it seems very well built and thought out. For the mazzer, any idea what the (EU) retail price will be? If the price is right it could be interesting to have a grinder from a company that has EU distributors avoiding the high import taxes (e.g. on Zerno Z1 or Lagom P64)
To be fair, it isn't targeted at that demographic. They just wanted to ensure and include it. You'd be surprised how many people start espresso and immediately buy a decent or LM mini. @@LanceHedrick definitely a ‘lateral move’ for mazzer. At first it looks like they’re trying to compete with the EK, or maybe even a fancier competitor to the Timemore sculptor. But given the price (allegedly 1.000€), it seems like a specialty version of the Mazzer mini. A lot of cafes already use Minis for decaf etc, and this would be a more versatile alternative to fill that space.
lotsa cool new engineering for sure i wish the coffee industry stopped using, imo, super yucky spouted portafilters. i can't get over having an espresso made with a spouted portafilter that hasn't been rinsed out under the basket and the spouts. it makes my heart so so sad for all the baked on syrupy coffee under the baskets and in the spouts just having new espresso running over it. not to mention the objectively substantial amount more material and manufacturing costs making spouted portafilters

Yessss
That last machine is definitely not going to be anything close to $2000. lol maybe I just heard that wrong
Host to coffee people is more exciting than disney to children.
Id love to have $50,000 to blow on coffee gear and just buy some toys
Haha same here!
The Philos really resembles the Zerno.

Where’s the giant burrs in the thumbnail?
They didn't have the grinder there lol.
The mic tho
That mazzer design is absolutely terrible. A user adjusts the beans much more than it does taking the machine apart. Also 64mm burrs in that behemoth?
I had the same thoughts. I first thought it was like 80mm burrs haaha!
A lot of cafes already use Minis for decaf etc, and this would be a more versatile alternative to fill that space.
lotsa cool new engineering for sure
i wish the coffee industry stopped using, imo, super yucky spouted portafilters. i can't get over having an espresso made with a spouted portafilter that hasn't been rinsed out under the basket and the spouts. it makes my heart so so sad for all the baked on syrupy coffee under the baskets and in the spouts just having new espresso running over it. not to mention the objectively substantial amount more material and manufacturing costs making spouted portafilters
I agree re: cleanliness! it does seem to be a relic of the past, though many are die hard lovers of it. I doubt it will be going anywhere anytime soon. maybe just easier to clean iterations, i'd imagine.
First haha
Close!
The music for this video is very annoying, especially when the singer sings. 😢 It makes it very hard to hear what you are saying.
I didn't notice a singer lol
