    I have a polestar 2 model uear 2022 and now have 20,000 miles on it. 100% local commuting and home garage charging. It's been perfect (and awd worked through multiple snow storms too!). The cupholder is a nonissue. I don't have to drink big gulp coke while driving. Cupholder fits a 500ml plastic water bottle. The range is also a non issue as i charge at home every night. It drives sooo much better than a Tesla 3 or Y. One has to actually drive for a while to tell the difference.

      Guess youre a first time EV owner. We all say this regardless of what EV it is. I said the same when I got my Ioniq5 until the honeymoon ended and I was saddled with the well known 12v battery issue. Move to '23 Polestar 2 and its also buggy and unreliable. Once you put some miles on this thing, you'll no longer have such enthusiasm.

    The Polestar 2 is based off XC40 ICE based SUV. So there is a center tunnel, less aerodynamic than it could be, and on the heavy side.

    • @EVPulse
      @EVPulse  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the center tunnel is an ICE carryover limitation but it’s not always negative. Depends on packaging.

  • @Dark_Vader888

    Leased a '23 Performance. Drives good but the tech is trash. The app is unusable, the TCAM has been in the shop 3 times and always disconnects from the network leaving you with no data. I also get propulsion issue warnings. I really cannot wait to return this thing, It looks and handles great but it is a very buggy car. It's no surprise when I heard the CEO say the Polestar is on an outdated platform and will be discontinued in two years.

  • @merrichoang6858
    @merrichoang6858 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    That center tunnel is there to housing the battery because it is not a skateboard platform. That is why it has a better handling than most EV out there. How do you not know this as an Auto Journalist?

    • @EVPulse
      @EVPulse  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A skateboard or lack of skateboard in design isn’t a key determinant of handling performance. Soure: We are actually auto journalists who drive a bunch of cars.

    • @rugermate
      @rugermate หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The chassis comes from the XC40. Instead of designing the car from the ground up, they kept the chassis the same (it's still a cousin of Volvo, as you know). Hence, there is still a tunnel between the rear seats. *which they made use of the space to house the batteries, instead of a driveshaft

      @@EVPulse re: "A skateboard or lack of skateboard in design isn’t a key determinant of handling performance." just a heads up EVP (btw love your uploads) but technically Merricho is correct because it IS in fact a "determinant", therein the problems comes in that you (personally) just don't know about it. no worries but bear with me for this comment will be LONG AF and reading it will likely be "unpleasant", for what Merricho expressed is actually "advanced understanding" or "high level knowledge" that unfortunately WON'T be found in the minds of most of today's so called "Auto Journalists", no, it will only be found in the minds of Mechanical Engineers or specifically Auto Engineers with experience in Motorsports/Racing (ref: yours truly). sadly at this late date in Auto Industry History (due to retirements, passing, and the like) there are now very few of us TRUE PROFESSIONALS left in the Industry who ACTUALLY know what the hell it is they are talking about...
      believe it or not (but i strongly suggest you believe it because it is in fact all true) while Polestar superficially "dresses up" Volvo's CMA platform to look like a 5-door Sedan, unbeknownst to most "lying beneath the skin" is a chassis that has LESS in common with all the other OEM's EV sedans on the road, and MORE in common with full-on Sports Cars like the CORVETTE C8... and wait for it... the mighty 4 motor RIMAC NEVERA (aw crap). admittedly if one's looking for a "Soccer Mom EV"...? or looking to do Ride Share...? then the P2 "ain't" the car for you (hey that rhymes 😀)...
      that's right, so Auto Journalists aren't alone in driving a "bunch of cars", no, we Motorsports/Racing guys also spend time driving these same "bunch of cars" and as if to make my point, it just so happens that the last 2 cars i tested in the last 60 days (pure coincidence btw) was a Polestar 2 Performance on the road, yeah i even drove it up to the NY Autoshow to see the East Coast debut of the "skateboarded" P3 and P4 back on April 6th. and then the VERY NEXT car i tested back on May 3rd occurred down at the racetrack (NJMP) in the form a sweet 2024 Nissan R35 GTR NISMO with Carbon Ceramic Brakes (got the pics and video on my phone)...
      yeah that's a hell of a "back to back" comparison right...? but guess what, i tell you with certainty (because again, i just got finished driving them) is the handling of that $60-$70K P2 you've got there is actually MORE THAN A MATCH for the handling of a $200K Nismo. while i don't love the car any less, admittedly it "pains me" to say that considering i'm very much a JDM/GTR fanboy. now while one might be tempted to attribute this "performance delta" to the P2 being a Dual Motor EV (yes that's certainly a "part" of the equation) but the reality is that's actually not the WHOLE equation. no, the other 50% of the equation lies in the fact that the Swedes not only had the "intelligence" to "stuff" both 80 kWh worth Batteries and Dual Motors up underneath THAT PARTICULAR CHASSIS with a tunnel...? but they expressly designed a chassis (with a tunnel) to ALSO have a relatively "short" wheelbase (108 inches) and let's be clear they DIDN'T have to do this, no, for they could've "succumbed to pressure" from "no-nothing consumers" with the P2, and just went out copied what the other Manufacturers were doing/planning to do, which is what they've basically now done with the aforementioned P3/P4 models...
      hint #1: in addition to having a "tunnel" with in which to place heavy batteries, the fancy all aluminum chassis of the Corvette (think: the new Corvette E-Ray, think Fisker's original Karma) and the fancy all carbon fiber chassis of the Rimac, they ADDITIONALLY both share this same wheelbase of 108 inches (+/- 1").

    They either refuse to admit the problem or don't want to spend the money to fix it, but either way I would never buy one with that cupholder setup. It may be the case that cupholders are less used in other countries but if you're gonna sell in the US you gotta cater to the market... eventually. I can appreciate that they didn't get it right in the first year or two but now it's been four, and they still have the exact same design. I think they're putting their eggs into the Polestar 3 and 4 and are gonna let the 2 languish. There's no reason to buy this IMO.

      I was extremely excited about it when it came out a few years back. Unfortunately, it is only now coming into a performance range that for real can compete with Tesla. And yes, I agree that Polestar seem to put minimum efforts into the 2 and take the money they earn from it (although sales are way lower than they'd expected) and focus on 3, 5 and the further future. The 2 is an older Volvo concept car, essentially, that they decided to use to get the new brand going.

    The P2 Performance is priced out at $80k at my local space. Over $10k more than Ioniq5 N, Model 3 Performance, EV6GT and MacheGT. But its much slower, has a cheaper outdated interior and tech. Looks are plain and uninspiring. I see Polestar is barely selling any because its way overpriced. They think this is a BMW competitor but its not even close in all metrics and the sales reflect this. Too many overpriced packs.

    The downsides of this car greatly outweigh its good sides. The car shuts off if there's no one in the driver's seat, even if there are passengers? That's a no-go. The center console is ugly, and the cupholder design is impractical-a deal breaker. It feels so claustrophobic in the back seat, with that giant tunnel running through the middle of an electric car!
