I would definitely say that creating content on vehicles like this that are several years old are still valuable. There's still plenty of people looking at used EV options, they become even more appealing after they depreciate in value in the first 2-3 years.
About to take delivery of a MY25 EX40 that should behave like this. I dis not chose it for autodeiving at all, but it’s nice way to spend the waiting time seeing this
As someone who is on his second Polestar 2 lease, I have to concur with these results. I have tried Pilot Assist maybe half a dozen times just to see what it was like and found using it to be no less work than hand driving the car, so I hand drive the car.
I think it’s fair to say that Pilot Assist (I have the Volvo version) is termed a Driver Assistance System. It works just fine on the highway within it’s obvious limits, and doesn’t pretend to replace the driver. Sure, there are ADAS candidates out there, but being seduced into thinking they replace the driver is delusional. Musk has full ADAS in his cars, but it’s called a chauffeur, and he can well afford one. Until the regulating bodies determine these systems can be used as full advanced driver replacements, it’s better to accept them for what they are - Advanced Driver Assistants. Judging by how long it’s taking the NHTSA is taking to get its act together on something as simple as Adaptive Driving Lights, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
My polestar 3 is coming early July. I’m so happy. Confirmation it has landed in canada. It’s in Vancouver. Landed 2 weeks ago. Being shipped on a transport truck now to Ontario. Then once it’s in Toronto it’s getting the software update then I can grab it. Per my rep. Pick up early July BUT polestar is known as a “drivers vehicle”. I bought it to drive it! I didn’t buy it so it could drive its self. I also said no need for the LiDAR. Which wouldn’t come until 2025 anyways and I want it NOW. Polestar is an awesome brand.
I am so jealous that you can get polestar 3 in July. I am in US and my polestar 3 will ship to me in November. I have my polestar 2 for three years, very satisfied. Can't wait for my polestar 3.
The gentle alerts are better. You don't want the driver being shocked awake and suddenly yanking the steering wheel. The way Polestar does it is a lot safer.
I had a 22 dual motor with pilot and plus packages and loved the adaptive cruise aspect of pilot assist, but I never really trusted the lane centering. Plus with how much torque you had to put on the wheel to keep it active you might as well just drive the car. Now I have a base model 24 single motor and I miss my adaptive cruise, but I don't miss the dual motors. Despite having over 100 less horsepower it barely feels slower. Plus I love having 80 miles more range.
12:33 " in lane repositioning " how is this offset from the middle-of-the-lane described by most ppl in general ? I wish these systems would allow a certain manual offset away from center and would MAINTAIN that offset for you on long stretches of ruts and small potholes without fighting the steering torque the entite time, as long as the lanes were wide enough
I was waiting for you to do this test, lol! I have a 2024 Polestar 2! Love the car but I didn’t have high expectations for the ADAS system test! 😂 It’s fine as an adaptive cruisecontrol, but the steering assistance keeps you on your toes! At least I don’t feel like I get too complacent when using it.
I paid for the pilot pack, but it also included Matrix lights and fog lights, and cross traffic alerts, and 360 cameras. The lights are a good reason to get it!
My husband has a polestar 2 and it’s the worst adas system I’ve experienced. I can’t stand how the car constantly ping pongs w the steering assist. It gives me motion sickness. I was hoping it would be better for a company known for safety.
After seeing your notice of the May lease deals, I leased a Polestar 2 (2024). Driving it yesterday on the 605 freeway in So California, I noticed the lane keeping was pretty "I might or I might not," despite the lane keeping icons lighting up on the dash display. Adaptive Cruise seemed to work well. With all those sensors, maybe a software update will improve things (fingers crossed).
I was thinking the same thing as I don’t remember seeing the video. We briefly had both the gv60 and Ioniq 5 at the same time. I loved the HDA2 in the Ioniq. The hda1 in the gv60 was not as good. It wasn’t as smooth or confidence inspiring.
37:34 don't understand how mere aesthetics get the first say on the direction of tech development. Case in point the bezels on phones- a certain amount of bezel can have a functional purpose, to grip the device.
I was using the autopilot in the xc40 recharge with 400hp in the city in Germany. It was nice, until the car in front slowed down, so the autopilot slowed down. Then the car turned right and the autopilot was like, let’s go, full throttle, I got spooked quite a bit.
I tested my 22 XC60 Recharge and it will bring you to a complete smooth stop with flashers. Also, the 1st time I was nearly sent off an exit at full send, nearly had a heart attack! Now I’m aware but Volvo/Polestar should be embarrassed by it.
17:45 (needing correction to go back straight after maintaining a sharp turn). Slow to center is a Volvo thing i remember from 2019 and 2021 models that i leased
6:15 awaiting the Volvo EX90, Rivian R2/R3 for their latest ADAS which allows BOTH "HANDS OFF, EYES OFF" even if it will be limited road sections (or just to California per Volvo)
I drive a P*2 and find the adaptive cruise control to be solid, but the Pilot Assist to be next-to-useless. It's way too naggy on straight roads. The only thing I really use it for is if I quickly need to take my hands off the wheel, e.g. to open a drink while driving.
27:54 actually for me, in terms of volvo vs HMG (Hyundai /Kia/ Genesis) i tried to know ALL the specific weakness of whichever car you drive, then you can relax irrespective of the car you are in - especially 1) ON A ROAD YOU KNOW and 2) behind another vehicle.
I’d be interested to see you do the comma ai self driving add on. I have it installed in my GMC and it works surprisingly well. If you do it, the gold star would be a Toyota for it to work best though.
Interesting 15:36 your right most lanes with towing vehicles cause the most road damage. Here, the worst pot holes around Milpitas/Fremont,CA are from the HOV lanes especially just where heavy EV cars accelerates for lane changes (restricted with double lines usually)
41:28Never experienced hard exits like this in my 2021 XC60. I was able to be distracted on my phone while on my commute home on local roads (eyes off several seconds at a time) as long as I knew what its limitations were on my specific roads, but always needed to add some SLIGHT steering input Torque to 1) monitor what its doing in a certain curve, and 2) help the car decide to stay in what lane before a lane split occurred.
21:32 collision avoidance of something stationary by jumping into the left lane (even if means jumping into opposite direction lane without any cars). I have never seen this example in real/ video, just animation from Volvo, never had any close encounters like that in my prior Volvo so far.
35:30 "is the future going of driver assistance.... " Answer: depends how they BRAND it. If you brand your ADAS to handle 1) bad weather / rainy foggy night, 2) selective roads can Allow both hands off AND eyes off, then Volvo EX90 and Rivian R2/R3 with Luminar /Lidar systems are on the right track.
I would still watch/appreciate videos of "sister vehicles" with similar systems BUT they could be short (highlights) ones for each vehicle within a longer/regular length video. Kind of like how the P1 was done here.

I love the polestar 2 but wish they would hurry up go on the NACS charging system
Please continue to run all cars in the Hogback. The current Volvo/Polestar system is very annoying to live with as you HAVE to actively do steering inputs all the time. Even when you wouldn't without the system on as it will beep at you very quickly unless you put some unnatural pressure on the wheel when the road is atraight
i'd love to see an honorary hogback trial using a car with comma.AI's OpenPilot system, honorary in the fact that it's DIY and not OEM approved, butstill pretty neat. OpenPilot recommends an EV6 or an Ioniq 5, qhich would be cool to test against HDA2 EDIT: aaaaaaaaaaaaand i just got to the bit where KYle said he wanted to try it, lol.
Before watching video: I sent them a message saying to recall any Ai, as it told me to drive through a red light. I didnt of course. They sent all info to engineers 5 months ago. Now I will watch this video and see... :) will edit after!
17:50 "this system is not good" like I mentioned months ago, it reallly should not be in market. Poor volvo. And who the heck was the UX, UI Engineer and QA for this..... shows some sort of bad business practice, maybe the engineers feel same way as Max. Poor guy.
"drunk, high and 90 years old" is still my conclusion. As OOS says. Volvo should've recalled this, and even with engineers knowing the faults I dont blame them as it wouldve been a business decision to this day to not recall or make changes to the UI or experience. Unsafe for the road and users (people).
27:39 First half of test, really not good. It only did well, and only does well if following a car. But as 22:08 suggests, it'll follow a car through a red or even yellow.
34:50 this explains the business ideals, and dilution of Polestar. Thank you out of Spec for saying "well I dont, they wouldnt have put this in this car if it was safe". Thank you for making this video. Thank you. Thank you.
Why should it be? It's an assist not designed to drive for you. If you want such a feature it's been available for years. It's called a bus or taxi. This would be perfectly adequate for my needs as I'm the driver and do pay attention to the road and steering. Why do you thing Tesla owners are terrible drivers?
It's an assis,t not designed to drive for you. If you want such a feature it's been available for years. It's called a bus or a taxi. Because they don't drive.
This is a harsh review for a car that actually does basic lane centering unlike a $50k plus blazer Prologue or Lyriq that just ping pong all over the road.
How many times can Max try to justify PS2’s shortcomings haha! So surprised to see how poor this system performed, glad I went with a different car when cross-shopping this.
No justification, it’s just a mediocre assistance system that shouldn’t be a paid option. For assist and highway cruising I don’t mind but it’s not very advanced but it helps relieve some stress on longer trips - this stretch of I-70 is an extreme example. To me other parts of the car mattered more and I enjoy driving it myself :)
@@iMaxPattenI was just kidding haha! Love all the videos you do and I personally love polestar products. I’ve just been spoiled too much by Tesla’s tech.
Volvo /polestar steering assist only works till 88 mph then defaults to radar based (distance) cruise control. I got a Genesis gv70 😊 which gives very good steering assist even ABOVE 112 mph (Volvo's top speed limiter)
A rental 2022 Polestar 2’s driver assistance over 2 weeks and 1000 miles wrecked my shoulder and neck with pinched nerves and constant, debilitating pain. I’m better now but that car’s driver assistance is still terrible. Thank goodness for my 2018 Model 3 enhanced autopilot which is actually useful and doesn’t induce debilitating pain.
I would definitely say that creating content on vehicles like this that are several years old are still valuable. There's still plenty of people looking at used EV options, they become even more appealing after they depreciate in value in the first 2-3 years.

The gentle alerts are better. You don't want the driver being shocked awake and suddenly yanking the steering wheel. The way Polestar does it is a lot safer.
Kyle: "non starter for me" Also Kyle: Buys CT and pays $20k extra for the advanced ADAS system comprised entirely of a basic adaptive cruise feature.
I’d rather wait for a great ADAS update vs being stuck with a trash one

Hey guys, the speed variation sounds very like a fuel agnostic 3rd party solution like the Bosch DAS they fit to fossil fuel vehicles.

You should run the test again using open pilot.
