"We ran through them like a laxative." Priceless!!! I met Robert in a chiropractor's office waiting room. He was nice, approachable, and quiet. We didn't barrage him with questions, but focused on back issues instead. And man, was he long with those legs extended from that tiny chair.
Once again, I have enjoyed another flashback from the Lakers and the Celtics. I’m 55 years old and I missed the Bill Russell era, but my favorite era was the bird Celtics and the magic Lakers. It’s great to see these guys hamming it up I want to see more interviews!!
When you put 2 great players who left it all on the court together, it seems to be gold. Must be the fact that they have so little to regret. Coop and Chief, I knew it would be funny and informative. If my kid said "I wanna be just like Chief/Coop." I would be smilin' ear to ear.

That was fabulous. You could feel the mutual respect and even something approaching affection. I loved watching Parish play -- that impassive face. His one failing as a player was a tendency to shuffle his feet after getting the ball down low and get called for traveling. Drove me nuts. But he ran the court relentlessly, with those long legs, and it was like watching a great bird with the swooping arm as he put it through on the run. And it was nice to see Cooper acknowledge that rainbow shot from far over his head.
One of the best interviews from two of the most underrated players on their teams. Big time Laker Fan here but Kareem, Magic Coop, Parrish and DJ were my favorites from those teams
As I recall neither of these guys were considered by anyone to be "underrated". I'm in my early seventies and maybe our definitions are different. Just saying..
Nah, Cooper knew Bird. As a fan, I feared his play and Magic overall game Generalship. Cooper was soo good! I am 53 years old and I patterned my defensive game off of Cooper and to this day I can still shut down talented younger players.

The NBA arrived to Spain in 1988. I mean, arrived to the tv. We knew nothing about NBA, only the legends that some people talked. Giants with big muscles and amazing skills to play basketball. Off course, we didn't know the results of the previous years. We didn't know what teams were the favourites, we didn't know nothing. So the tv could broadcast matches from other seasons, and nobody bothered. I saw the finals Celtics vs Lakers like it were live tv. All the finals. 84, 85 and 87. No internet, zero spoilers. And that was great. Any spanish boy from that years, can remember perfectly the teams. Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, Larry Bird, Kevin Mc Hale, Robert Parish vs Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The beautiful game vs the showtime. What an amazing time to be alive and watch them. Thank you, Mr. Cooper.

Grew up loving Cooper and the Lakers but as with most you respect them more after retirement. They made each other better and gave us a lifetime of memories to look back on. Great stories!
As a teenage Lakers fan in the 80s, I HATED that great Celtics team, but, with age and some level of objective detachment, I have a high level of respect for Bird, McHale, DJ, and Chief. Those guys could flat-out play ball. The best rivalry in NBA history.

Before one LA-Boston game in the Boston Garden I got there early for the game. Walked down to the court almost nobody was there yet. I was watching the late great DJ and Bird practicing, up behind me came Parish. He stopped and said how you doing today? I almost shit he talked to me. Talked for a few seconds and then went on the court. He will never know how much that meant to me, will always remember that day. Thank you Chief! Love Parish! LA and Boston of the 80's were the best teams of all time, hands down.

I grew up watching the LAKERS in Puerto Rico, admiring WILT and JERRY and then KAREEM and MAGIC and COOP and all the rest and although I too hated the CELTICS I always admired the CHIEF. First time I see him laughing and hear him saying anything at all. Great show, COOP, and GO LAKERS.
I always liked to watch Robert play and have good games. He was quite the force in the middle, offensively and defensively, on the pick and rolls, and he had that rainbow jumper. He is a great interview, also. He has a good sense of humor, tells it like it is, and was, and doesn't seem to have many axes to grind.

The monumental run of NBA finals games between the Lakers - Celtic was in my opinion the greatest of all rivalries. I was a teenager then, so I followed this rivalry closely, even though I live in the middle of the Pacific. To actually hear the Chief speak is shocking! He speaks! More than that he's funny and down to earth.

Chief went to Union Street High School. Then moved to Woodlawn High School after integration. I watched him play through high school and college. so happy to see him finally speaking up and talking about his basketball journey. he was so dominant during those years.

Thank you gentlemen for a most enjoyable walk through memories halls. The NBA of the 80’s was the best of the sport. I was a close observer of pro basketball in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. When the greats from those eras retired, the game ended for me. I never watched the NBA after 2000. The game had changed too much. Mr. Parish, you certainly are a southern gentlemen. Mr. Copper, you are a good man. During the last 6 months I’ve been watching every old game between the Celtics and Lakers. I have smiled many times as the great rivalry unfolded. It’s incredible that we live in a time when these old games are available to watch again. I want to thank both of you for the wonderful memories I’m reliving again. With my warmest regards! Jeff
Was good to hear from some other Laker/Celtics on "The Rivalry" besides the usual Legends &/or media "talking heads." Especially true in the case of hearing from "The Chief" who wasn't much for talking to the Media but let his game do the walking.He was a quiet-storm-force, night in night out, as many opponents would attest to. Good job out of you Coop. You were in many ways, the Scottie Pippen for the Lakers but you had Kareem, Magic, and Worthy "firepower" in front of you. (Thus you didn't get to put up Pippen #'s too often/regularly)
when you interview centers from the 70s through 90s, please get them to share their opinions on the many great opponents they faced. robert parish faced hall of famers kareem, mcadoo, lanier, gilmore, walton, moses, shaq, olajuwon, ralph sampson, david robinson, mourning, mutombo, cowens, ben wallace, ewing, and wes unseld. he faced shot-blocking specialists like mark eaton, manute bol, and tree rollins. he faced the young bill cartwright, who could get 20 points, 10 rebounds in a few of his best years. he faced rik smits who was 7'4 and could shoot from 16-17 feet consistently. robert only mentioned 2 of those 21 centers. us old school fans would love to hear first-hand accounts from the golden age of centers.
I just found this channel and I think it's the best channel in all of sports. Not only TH-cam but on TV as well. I love seeing ex NBA players/stars talk about basketball and not spread the agendas some of these other channels/stations put forth. When you've watched basketball for 35+ years like I have you know how great this era is and how great the players were back then. It's awesome to see them talk basketball

it's nice to see these 2 guys who played on rival teams, have a great conversation like this. they probably hated each other during their playing days, but there's no reason to hate once they're done playing.

Thank you gentlemen for a most enjoyable walk through memories halls. The NBA of the 80’s was the best of the sport.
I was a close observer of pro basketball in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. When the greats from those eras retired, the game ended for me. I never watched the NBA after 2000. The game had changed too much.
Mr. Parish, you certainly are a southern gentlemen. Mr. Copper, you are a good man.
During the last 6 months I’ve been watching every old game between the Celtics and Lakers. I have smiled many times as the great rivalry unfolded. It’s incredible that we live in a time when these old games are available to watch again.

Was good to hear from some other Laker/Celtics on "The Rivalry" besides the usual Legends &/or media "talking heads."
Especially true in the case of hearing from "The Chief" who wasn't much for talking to the Media but let his game do the walking.He was a quiet-storm-force, night in night out, as many opponents would attest to.
Good job out of you Coop. You were in many ways, the Scottie Pippen for the Lakers but you had Kareem, Magic, and Worthy "firepower" in front of you. (Thus you didn't get to put up Pippen #'s too often/regularly)
Huh ? He was Rodman and Salley in one. Every 1st option on every team despised Coop ... and so did I.

when you interview centers from the 70s through 90s, please get them to share their opinions on the many great opponents they faced. robert parish faced hall of famers kareem, mcadoo, lanier, gilmore, walton, moses, shaq, olajuwon, ralph sampson, david robinson, mourning, mutombo, cowens, ben wallace, ewing, and wes unseld. he faced shot-blocking specialists like mark eaton, manute bol, and tree rollins. he faced the young bill cartwright, who could get 20 points, 10 rebounds in a few of his best years. he faced rik smits who was 7'4 and could shoot from 16-17 feet consistently. robert only mentioned 2 of those 21 centers. us old school fans would love to hear first-hand accounts from the golden age of centers.

I just found this channel and I think it's the best channel in all of sports. Not only TH-cam but on TV as well. I love seeing ex NBA players/stars talk about basketball and not spread the agendas some of these other channels/stations put forth. When you've watched basketball for 35+ years like I have you know how great this era is and how great the players were back then. It's awesome to see them talk basketball
