    Sorry for the duplicate video, but the first one had a serious problem caused by TH-cam that we could not fix so we have re-published this video and now it is working correctly.

    A tire stand is also known as a 5 gallon bucket. My early years I spent as a privateer in mx and when it’s your own rig and you are traveling you need space. Put your tools in a cheap 5 gal bucket with a husky tool liner and use that to change tires it’s perfect.
    Your welcome hahah
    Also the valve stem nut being tight can tear the valve stem out even with a bead lock landing in full go….we would always back it out against the valve stem cap to keep the cap on and let the stem move if needed. I’d rather have a sideways valve stem than a flat tire. Just some little stuff we would try to do to save dollars and make races.

    Interesting to watch this after being a tire tech that installed tubeless tires on cars for about 3 years. Almost the same proccess but it looks more complicated since you dont have a tire machine to help you do it. You don't have to balance motorcycle tires?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only road bikes get balanced tires, off road with it's low tire pressures and uneven terrain there is no need to balance tires. Look at any KTM, Honda, Yamaha, etc dirt bike and you won't see balanced tires.

    I bought the Baja No Pinch Tire Tool after watching this, glad I did. It takes most of the work out of it.

      Great suggestion, we've used that tool a few times and it's great for the casual tire swaps! Highly recommended :)

    Nice. Towards the end on finishing the second side it's off camera tho.
    Two, installing the rimlock? Any tricks or modifications to the routine?
    Otherwise thanks.
    The Bead Buddy and rim shields are the ticket. Messed up one install before I got them.

      We'll film an add-on at some point for rim locks, assuming the rim is pre-drilled (not all are), it's not too bad. Insert the rim luck UNDER the rubber rim strip which is nice because it holds it in and keeps some tension on it. Then it's just a matter of starting 90 degrees to rim lock and getting the bead of the tire under the rim lock at the beginning (first 90 degrees) because you do not want to try to get that thing in at the end of the 360. You'll have to watch the bead at the lock as you are getting to the end, often the lock will prevent the tire from dropping into the center, so you'll have to push the beadlock up out of the way as you push the tire down into the center. The last bit you push onto the rim will probably be more difficult because you've added something that prevents the full tire bead from dropping into the center. It takes a bit more effort, but it's not too terrible.

    Lifesaver almost threw my wheels out into the street from my garage, I was so pissed. It was that last small section of tire I couldn't get pushed into the rim. Anyway, I saw what you did and I replicated it... and what do you know it worked instantly. Many thanks!

    I find that using a pair of quality spoons is the key to not scratching the rim and not pinching the tub. I used some cheap spoons and was pinching the tubes all the time. I switched to Motion Pro spoons, and rarely pinch the tubes. Brand name parts costs more for a reason!

    Would you recommend balancing the wheel(s) ?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For off-road, no, because the terrain is un-balanced. But for road riders, balancing is the only way to get a smooth ride at speed. You can take your wheels to a motorcycle shop to have them balanced on a machine. Or you can buy weights and DIY on a stand which is not as precise but works pretty well.

    Thnaks for the great videos. What is the width of this rim and tire type? Is there anything you would have to modify on the bike or tire to be able to support 18 inch wheels with big dirt tires like this?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      we answer these questions and many more in our 3 part youtube video going through all of the different sizes that fit on the surron. FYI when it comes to 18" there are only a very few tires that fit without cutting knobs or other silly modifications. You'll want a 3.50x18 or 90/100-18 tire.

    No tire lock?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not necessary on Surron for most people. OEM does not install them and if you do run them you'll want the titanium ones we sell to minimize weight. The only time you'll ever need it is if you get a flat in the backcountry and need to ride it out on rough terrain the lock will help keep the flat tire from coming off the rim. With MX tires on the Surron we've only had 1 flat in 2 years.
