    Currently running a 16inch rear and it's the bomb! I didn't even think about the Suspension Lift linkage.
    Planning on running a 19inch front and .75inch linkage as soon as they are available in the colors I like.
    Thank you so much for all of your hard work!

      @@levieto Obviously it does require a whole new wheel to fit a 16" tire. If you run your stock 48t sprocket you will loose a tiny amount of acceleration (-3%) based on our acceleration tests, it's not enough that you can feel it. If you put a 54t sprocket on the bike which is what we run due to all our mountain climbing terrain you will be slightly faster than stock. Check out our acceleration data here: chargedcycleworks.com/pages/acceleration-testing

    Thank you for all the information in these 2 videos. It seems to me that the folks who might benefit the most from a 16/19 setup are those who ride off-road. I ride mostly on the road, and a little off road (80% road, 20% trails) so I think the Shinko 241's 19/19 might suit me best, but I'm always open to suggestions. Take care!

      Economies of scale. We only make a few hundred hubs at a time and they are made in America. When moto companies build hubs they are building 1000's of them in Taiwan/China and paying a fraction of the price we are. Same thing with the spokes. As the surron market grows we can hopefully scale things and drive costs down.

    Great video, but the idea that mountain bike rims and tires won't work just doesn't make sense. There are carbon mountain bike rims that are far stronger than the stock Surron rims. And the forces pro downhill riders put on their 40lb+ rigs are far greater than the average rider puts on their Surron. This seems like one of those myths that keeps getting repeated without any evidence to support it.
    Here's another way to look at it. If there are bike rims that can support a 220lb rider going downhill at 40-50 mph (and there are) then they can just as easily support a 150lb rider on a Surron. Same weight and forces. I don't see how adding 5lb+ of additional unsprung weight to each wheel, sacrificing acceleration, maneuverability and battery life is worth the tradeoff for questionable strength and durability benefits.

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      A surron with an average adult rider is MORE THAN 300lbs and we are capable of riding at motorcycle speeds on all terrain not just downhill. In our years of racing motocross we have seen what happens when a front wheel comes apart and it always ends in a trip to the ER with serious injuries. If you are a slow casual rider on a stock surron, you might be OK with MTB wheels and tires, but the second you ride hard and modify your surron to go far beyond the speeds of a stock bike, a MTB wheel and paper thin tire is not going to be safe. Don't trust us? No problem, I encourage you to reach out to ANY MTB wheel manufacturer and ask them if they recommend running their strongest wheel on a Surron...we already know what they will tell you.

    • @allanshpeley4284
      @allanshpeley4284 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChargedCycleWorks And what about the handlebar, fork, rear suspension and brakes? By your logic, since these were all designed for mountain bikes and wouldn't be approved by the manufacturer, they're not safe for a Surron. Is a brake failure at 50 mph really better than putting a taco in your wheel by casing a jump? What about blowing up your fork or snapping your handlebar?
      If you're smashing huge motocross jumps at full speed then it makes sense to beef up your bike as much as possible. But in that case, why are you riding a Surron and not a dirt bike? Of course, the average rider isn't doing that; they're riding trails and hitting a few small jumps and drops.
      The Stealth b-52 (among others) has front and rear mountain bike wheels/tires, weighs more than a stock Surron and goes just as fast. So you're not just debating me here, but a company that's been around for years with a ton of positive reviews. You'd think if people were blowing up these wheels that we'd have heard about it by now.
      I think dismissing mountain bike wheels and tires outright for the average rider is disingenuous, unless you're going to do the same for all the other mountain bike parts on the Surron. Is it possible there's a bit of bias on your end given you've built your company around custom motorcycle wheels?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      All of our bikes on stock power use the 16/19 setup. It makes the platforms geometry and stability way better. with a 54t sprocket the power loss isn't very noticeable. We highly recommend it and are sure you'd be happy after the purchase

    Do I need a 0.75 linkage for my talaria, if go 16/19?

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NO! In fact the Talaria needs the opposite out of the box, the geometry is so stink bug it feels like you are riding on the front tire. This is why we introduced our Stage2 package with a 21" front tire to raise the front end up and get the bike feeling more stable and confidence inspiring. 16/19 is not yet available, we are working on a brand new hub for Talaria, unfortunately it's wider than a surron hub. chargedcycleworks.com/collections/talaria-sting/products/stage2-package-for-talaria

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to run a tire larger than 3.00" you have no choice but to offset the wheel away from the chain. Off road where the bike is constantly being disturbed by the terrain you cannot tell any difference. The handling of a 16/19 Surron with a 90/100-16 tire and an offset wheel to accomodate the wider tire is night and day better than an OEM wheelset. It's the single biggest improvement you can make to the Surron or Talaria.

      The only time a rim lock is beneficial on Surron is when you get a flat tire and you need to ride the bike out of the backcountry. It will prevent the tire from falling off the rim and allow you to ride farther over rough terrain with a flat tire.

    I’m still not sure. Besides better puncture resistance and more choice, how is this an upgrade to a 19” rear? You seem to be comparing this more against an 18 inch real wheel. What’s wrong with 19”. There are some good tires at this size and being narrow, they’re very flickable. Thanks

    • @ChargedCycleWorks
      @ChargedCycleWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 16" rear is superior in every way, ask anybody who has ridden our 16/19 setup they will back up this statement. You get the massive tire selection from the 90/100-16 motocross racing tires in every tread design and compound you can imagine. You get REAL REAR TIRES that were actually designed to drive the bike forward rather than running front tires on your rear factory 19" rim which were never designed to be used in the rear. If you look at any lap time video we have ever done the 16/19 setup ALWAYS wins. The minimal weight gain of the 16" tires is far exceeded in performance gains and flat protection. If you ever get a chance to ride one you should. Just recently a customer of ours who purchased a 16" from us a year ago, sold the wheel to his friend to go back to OEM 19" rear wheel thinking it would be faster (because it's lighter), after just one ride on his OEM 19" rear he ordered another 16" wheel from us and told us how big of a mistake it was trying to go back to a 19" in the rear. Plenty of people other than us talking about this setup in the various Surron groups, you don't have to take our word for it. :)

      @ChargedCycleWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@victorvannatter312 the 241 trials tires are great for those who like to ride a lot of hard surfaces, very popular tire, almost everyone riding on street runs them, also really good in place like Moab. For those wanting high off-road performance beyond hard surfaces, not so great. It all depends on the types of terrain you ride and what type of rider you are. As you said for motocross (aka high performance off-road riding) switching to 16/19 motocross tires is the best solution. You can see all the tire weights here for a ton more info: chargedcycleworks.com/pages/sur-ron-tire-upgrade-specs-and-weights

      Tires choices for stock 19” are mediocre at best, never intended to drive a rear tire. 16” wheel and tire will also give you better low end torque, which depending on terrain and riding style will give better range and keep temps cooler. Taller sidewall gives much better cushion on hard rocky impacts, while keeping weight low. This video shows how running a 16 directly correlates to being a improvement over stock 19”, hence why 18 rear is rarely mentioned if at all, so not sure where you got that impression. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    But really, the stock 19-inch wheel is more fun, faster and more responsive than the 16-inch wheel in the back. That's more for a less technical Reca ride, the wheel is smaller and somewhat heavy, even if the difference per electrode is maybe 5%, but it's not as fun as the factory 19 inch wheel. The Chinese knew what they did well, to know that these electric bikes need to be lighter and not burden the loss of weight... It does not benefit them. If someone wants to have a fast fun bike, it is best to leave it in its original condition on the original tires, because they are the best in terms of performance and level of fun. Of course, when it comes to Traction, the 16-inch wheels at the back are the winners, but at the same time, the efficiency of the fun of acceleration is lost. Of course, someone may prefer a smaller, more technical ride on a 16-inch wheel, which had much better traction than 19-inch wheels. But it's not fun nimble like 19 inch wheels

      We have 1000's of customers who would tell you that 16/19 is the perfect setup for Surron, but we respect those that want the lightest possible tire. For some people this is their preferred setup which is why we have spent $1000's buying every tire we can get our hands on to weigh them and publish on our website so that people can make informed decisions with tire upgrades and understand the impact. People LOVE our 16/19 wheels for the following reasons: no more flat tires, running tires that were actually designed for the rear of a motorcycle, massive tire selection including gummy, massive increase in traction and handling, great traction and float in sand, ability to run low PSI for max traction, etc. You get all of this with < 2% penalty in power. In our opinion the Light Bee is best with 16/19. Check out this page to see all of the tires we have weighed: chargedcycleworks.com/pages/sur-ron-tire-upgrade-specs-and-weights
