Making A Custom Exhaust For My Mazda B2200

In this video I fabricate a custom stainless steel exhaust for my 1990 Mazda B2200 minitruck, it consists of the eBay stainless steel exhaust header into a 2 inch 5 ft long stainless steel pipe that's bent somewhat using a very cheap pipe bender. Then a stainless reducer being used to expand the diameter to a 2.25 inch roughly 9 3/4 inch long piece of stainless steel pipe into a Flowmaster delta 40 2.25" in 2.25" out stainless steel muffler. That goes into a 3 foot long stainless over axle pipe into a 20" long pipe then a 45° bend pipe (although I would recommend using a 60 degree bend or a 90 degree bend for better clearance of the leaf spring shackles) into more pipe that I don't know the length of because we didn't measure it we just cut it to the length I wanted for appearance. the muffler is clamped on both the in and out ports of it and the back of the over the axle pipe is clamped to the rest of the exhaust out with all other connections being welded. the materials that I bought were, stainless steel two bolt flange (1x), 5 foot long 2 inch stainless steel pipe (1x), 5 foot long 2.25 inch stainless steel pipe (1x), 45° bend stainless steel pipe (1x), 3 foot long 2.25 inch over axle stainless steel pipe (1x), 2 inch to 2.25 inch stainless steel exhaust reducer (1x), Flowmaster delta 40 2.25 inch in 2.25 inch out stainless muffler (1x), step 2.25 inch exhaust clamps (3x), and stainless steel exhaust hangers (2x).

I have the same flowmaster and piping on my 89’ b2200. Sounds pretty good but I feel the flowmaster is a little “big” for a 4 cylinder, it just doesn’t have what I would call a tight sound but I like it. I bent and ran the pipe and muffler to where they were at stock, but just put a little down pipe so it wouldn’t blow the exhaust in the rear axle, I said heck it with going over it. Great job man hope you keep her running happy, I had cut the exhaust off just before the stock muffler and it was LOUD, and the backfiring sounds cool but in reality it’s hard on the engine, those engines are tough as nails tho.

Meant to ask: What kind of oil would you recommend using for a 1991 B2200? I’ve been using 10W-40

ive been using 10w-30 in mine since thats mazdas factory reccomendation but plenty of guys run 10w-40 diesel oil

Spend the extra money and get yourself a 40 cu/ft bottle of Unimix.......you will be amazed on how much better your welds will turn out

A flux core stainless steel wire was used. We don't do enough stainless steel welding to justify the expense of buying a bottle just for stainless steel.

There’s a certain model of the 1991 B2200 that wasn’t made with a passenger mirror. Would you know anything about that? It’s always confused me

never seen that, if anything id guess it were something intended for japanese market and to be sold mostly to businesses

The base model B2200 came with only a small left side outside mirror.
SE-5 came with two large mirrors that had brackets that bolted to the door.
The LX model came with the small, sporty mirrors on each side.

only reason i can think it would sound different is if you had a weber carb on when open header, mine was still factory carb at that point and maybe that made some sort of difference

Do you know by chance what the OE size is for the exhaust on our B's?

im not 100% sure but my guess would be 1.5 inch or maybe 1.75 inch, my truck didnt have the factory exhaust when i bought it and was redone at some point but assuming it was the same size piping as stock then thats probably about right
