- In this cake decorating tutorial, I will quickly show you a simple way to get a galaxy effect on your cake using only buttercream! We will start with the cake already frosted and refrigerated. You'll learn this buttercream solar system technique and an easy way to make buttercream stars. No fondant or airbrushing needed!

I learned how to put stars on this cake. Phew! You saved my life! I have to make this cake for a customer for this weekend. Also the black icing and then scraping it off. Great trick! I was going to cover in black first😂

I love how you apply the pink, purple, and blue before the black. It's keep those colors from getting “muddied” and keeps them “clean” when they peek through. Great video

Karolyn! This video just saved my night. I set up my new airbrush to color the galaxy/alien cake due for delivery tomorrow. It stopped working 2 minutes after we started. I was panicking and I remembered I had just seen your fondant galaxy video. I've never covered a cake in fondant but I wasn't sure what else to do. I drug (dragged? Lol) my fondant out and went to look for that video and found this one instead....my cake came out perfectly. Thank you so much!

Okay so this is so cool even though I got a little anxiety when you covered the whole cake in black BC….I’ve seen this method done a lot with that mirror glaze stuff and was never eager to even attempt it…but this is way easier…Super Cool ❤️❤️❤️
Yes!! The key is getting the icing underneath solid before adding the other layers so they don’t blend together.

This looks amazing! Could you do this technique over chocolate buttercream?
Chocolate buttercream is brown, so you would have to dye it black. And the blue, pink and purple would have to be vanilla!

Hello. I just came across ur channel and love ur content and detailed tutorials. My question is, when baking do you use the "fan on" option. Or just "top and bottom" heat? Keep up the great work!!
I only use the fan when I bake in deep pans like bundt pans. Otherwise, I prefer not to use the fan for my cakes that are baked in regular round / square cake pans.

When you put the black buttercream the cake was cold or at room temperature ❓❓
It was cold, I put the color Buttercream on and put it back in the fridge for an hour, then put the black Buttercream on.

Doesn't the cake get dry from being in the fridge so many times?
Nope! Once the cake is frosted with buttercream, it seals it and protects it from drying out. I don't ever refrigerate a cake that isn't iced with buttercream.

Can you do a karate black belt theme cake?
I don't have one of those in my books right now, I think I did one many years ago, it was a sheet cake that looked like a robe with a black belt wrapped around it.

can i use swiss buttercream? American buttercream is horribly sweet i dont eat it
I'm sure you can, just make sure the icing is cold and hard before you add the dark layer of icing to scrape off.
