      @@backtothebarkygreat little boat the mirror. I bought a gp14 but struggle with it on slipway. So thinking of a mirror as it'll be lighter. Good video mate

      @jakedonnely4094 I've seen loads of them around but heard they capsize easy too. One day I'll sell everything I reckon and buy a wayfarer I'm sure! Happy boating thanks for watching.

      @@backtothebarky well I'd be quite happy with a mirror. I've seen good things about them. And they've stood the test of time. I'm sure my gp would have been good too. But not if I can't move it up slipway!

      Glad you enjoyed it. A very very much shorter trip this....You crossed the channel? Seriously? Wow that was brave. Bet you had to pick your weather carefully. Not so easy that back then! You should do it again and make a youtube video!

    subbed! I was told by my sailing club that without the jib my mirror rig would never go upwind. You seem to be getting on alright.

      Nice one thanks. Yes they have a forward mast step position for using main only. Takes the balance point forward. Believe it's then a 'Cat' rig. I can't be bothered faffing around with the jib really, I'm not racing, I'm sure it will go a bit faster with the jib but only if there's a decent amount of wind, it doesn't seem to do a lot on light airs which I like sailing in.

      Well I sailed Mirror in sailing regattas here in South Africa for many hours. What a fabulous buoyant little boat. My father actually ran a company in Joburg building Mirror dinghy's under licence to the Jack Holt designed boat sponsored by the Daily Mirror in the UK

    It took me awhile to appreciate the Mirror dinghy... You know on those really old Tug boats; They had a great big thick "mop" ( That's what I think it reminds me of...)on the bow to protect ship she was pushing... You know what I'm talking about? I imagine a great big fluffy one of those on the bow of your boat...Give it that "tug boat" look...How about that? :)

      I just looked it up; They're called "Pudding", or" Bow Beards" or something like that... :)

      Needs it the amount of stuff I run into! Thanks for watching. I did another video last week I sailed up the river to Rye Harbour, but then lost my phone in Bembridge Harbour at the weekend, all the footage gone. Gutted!

    ..and a dinghy is cheaper to run. I really enjoy your vids..esp your catch phrase "..back to the barky..’. I learned to sail a dinghy one summer in Wraysbury but that was like 30yr ago. Won't know of it's like riding a bike until or unless I give it another go. Quite fancy a mirror…versatile little boats. Where/when did you learn to sail?

    • @backtothebarky
      @backtothebarky  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I should think it is like riding a bike. I started boating by buying a speedboat at 20 (still have it 20 years on see my latest vid 😏) then I learned to sail initially via the army. They use sailing a lot for adventurous training. It's good for that as it puts you in genuine danger at times amongst random people where you need to work together etc. Increased my sailing skills only really by going out solo on my own boats though. That's how you truly learn when there's none around to help you! The books do help too. Thanks for watching my vids matey, get back out on your own Barky it is glory!

    My home waters, my sea scouts sail out of medway yacht club. Tge only McDonald's I can think of is up by Rochester m2 bridge. Was you hoping to go all that way?

    • @backtothebarky
      @backtothebarky  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Local but not a keen McDonald's customer clearly! Thats probably a good thing for your health... There's one just the other side of that road tunnel I just looked on the map it's at the end of a creek off the main river called Whitewall creek.
