    Punjabi Lobia recipe (serves 8)
    Lobia (black eyed peas) - 3 cups soaked for 6-8 hrs
    4.5 cups water
    1 tea bag (optional)
    Salt to taste
    1/2 cup mustard oil
    2 sticks of cinnamon (dal chini)
    3 bay leaves (tej patta)
    3-4 black cardamom (badi elaichi)
    10-12 green cardamom (elaichi)
    10-12 pieces of cloves (laung)
    2 tbsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
    1 tbsp carrom seeds (ajwain)
    3 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    8 green chillies finely chopped
    4 onions finely chopped
    5 tomatoes puréed
    3 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
    3 tsp ghee
    2 tsp kasuri methi (crushed or powdered)
    2 tbsp garam masala
    2 tbsp corriander powder
    1 tbsp Cumin powder
    1 tbsp turmeric (haldi)
    1 tbsp kashmiri red chilli powder
    1/2 cup fresh corriander leaves finely chopped
    Garnish (per portion)
    1 Green chillies slit
    3-4 pieces Ginger julienned

    Nice recipe. Love the colour of the curry and must be so flavourful with all the spices and mustard oil. I will try your version next time as mine is very basic and simple.

      Thank you... this is the more complex version for sure.. but it's the authentic Punjabi way of making it in dhabas on the highway

    OMG! boil the pea with the tea tag as well!!! The printing ink of the tea label/tag will made good antioxidant!!!

      Hi there, please make sure there is no ink on the teabag. Remove the tag and just add the bag only.

    Can i keep green tea bag?

      Hi, green tea won't work. The tea bag is more for color than flavor and green tea will not give it a good dark color
