Swedish Tubed Food! The lovely people of Sweden have some delicacies they put in squeezy tubes for pâté-like spreads. Delicacies like smoked reindeer and cod roe definitely were a first for our TRYers! So, we gave them these unique treats to get their thoughts on trying these Swedish tubed foods for the first time.

Swede here, love the channel, especially the alcohol videos. Now I'm gonna take a minute and defend our "wierd" food. You should have used bread, not crackers, it would have been a lot better. Preferably crispbread but most bread is fine. The Kalles is caviar, eggs not sperm. Aside from on bread it is also great with boiled eggs. It is not wierd to eat reindeer, it is not really any different from eating venison( eating venison but not reindeer would be like eating chicken but not turkey or salmon but not trout).

If you listened, Colin explained it was cod roe. When they asked what that was he said hard roe was the unfertlized egg, soft roe was the male sperm. They just jumped to the conclusion it was both. The product as we all know is hard roe, Colin obviously chose not to clarify it - makes better TV!

No, they did NOT! Kaviar isn't sperm, it's fish eggs. And it's actually a delicacy (not Kalles Kaviar necicarily), but in fancy restaurants you can get kaviar as an expensive appetizer (in a lot more countries than Sweden).

There's no fish sperm in Kalles, and the only difference between cod roe and caviar is really the fish it comes from, so that's a little bit of an overreaction. Also reindeer is delicious, used to be one of my favourite things before I went vegetarian

How very exciting :3 Thank you to whoever is sending this stuff in or brought it back or however it got there, I'm having the time of my life watching you guys try familiar things. Whoever came up with the selection did a great job, very standard stuff. The reindeer one I'm not familiar with, but would not surprise me in the least if it's popular up north where the reindeers live.
You should see some of the sandwiches people make with Kalles Kaviar. It would be the sandwich version of disguisting shots. Kalles and marmalade anyone? No? No takers? Yeah can't say I blame you, gross! Or even worse, the cake version. All of them frequent ingredients in the Swedish Smörgåstårta (sandwich-cake).
They way we eat Kalles Kaviar (The "sperm" which really is caviar = fish eggs and not sperm) in Sweden is on a piece of bread with butter and sliced hardboiled egg and it´s really good!
How much am I supposed to be using? I went and bought a tube from IKEA a while ago and my personal experience has been that it's way too salty to eat (I first tried like a 1-2mm thin layer on a piece of knackebrod which also came from IKEA because I don't know of anywhere else in my town that sells Swedish food) unless mixed with a lot of cream cheese.
@@yangj08 That's very individual, it is very salty and i can understand that it's too much for people to eat it on it's own if your tasting it for the first time so i would recomend to try what i wrote above on toast with butter and sliced hardboiled egg 👍
@@tetepeb Cool. Thanks! I didn't try that at first because the only butter I have at home is pre-salted so it wasn't going to help with the issue of being salty, but I'll go buy some unsalted butter and try.

My aunt in Denmark made reindeer for dinner one night. After I got over the guilt of eating Rudolph, I enjoyed it. In fact, it's the best thing I've ever had in my nearly 48 years. Also, the prawn & cheese was a favorite growing up, and the roe isn't horrible.

Plain Kalles on a cracker?!?!? Nooooooo! Best way to have it is buttered toast, then sliced hard cooked eggs, and then top with a ribbon of Kalles. If you're not in Scandinavia, you might also sprinkle a little pepper on top, but no pepper in Scandinavia. Pepper is Kryptonite to Scandinavians. Seriously, Kalles with hard cooked eggs is freaking awesome!
Ah, Räk Ost brings back fishing memories ... rowing out to my fishing island, having a tube of that and some bisquits with me and a thermos of tea. Haven't had it in years but I really liked it.

Kalles is something almost all Swedes have in their fridges but not many eat every day. We usually put it on eggs.
The rest is usually reserved for after school programs for when they have their snack time OR when you go hiking.
So strange to me how people who live on an island hate sea food.
It goes back to famine times when it was regarded as a food for poor people so it never gained traction but times are changing and some of the nest seafood is Irish especial in costal areas very fresh we dont use freezer boats so its almost fresher than most countries.
