Don't underestimate the Swedes, they have fish, a great economy, good healthcare and sports. They are fucking ace man. Cakes and alcohol are expensive.

Yet another vid about surströmming when you don't do it the right way. Look. No one eats the complete fish direct from the can. The first thing you do is clean the fish, and that means with water. Then you normally eat it with onions, sour cream potatoes and bread. It isn't as foul as in the can. But it is eatable. This is NOT the way to eat surströmming. Don't worry, it's not culturally sensitive or anything. Most swedes don't even eat it. It's a remenant of a time when you couldn't waste any food. Fermenting is a way to preserve. The fish is still eatable. But not really needed today. It har just become tradition in parts of sweden.

So it's like lutefisk? My mom would make this for Christmas. I tried it once, at first I took a tiny bite, and it wasn't bad so I took a big bite and started gagging. I didn't barf so that was good, my mother was not pleased.
Yo, you're eating it wrong. In Sweden we eat it together with a lot of other things. We don't eat it directly out of the can 😂

Every time. No preparation. You don't eat surstömming straight from the can. You clean the fish and eat it with some flatbread, potatoes, onion or chive and sour cream. Oh, and nubbe.

I have to give it to them , they've got guts! I''m Swedish and when I was a kid we used to put opened cans of surströmming in the airducts at school, and the whole school had to be evacuated. That was funny as hell! I've eaten surströmming one time in my life and there is no way that I'd put that crap in my mouth again.
its not meant to be served alone in a dish, and theres bones in them. but you can make a tasty meal out of them!

As a Swede it is weird when other nationalities/youtuber try surströming becuase either you do it as challange or just eat it as it is which is wrong. Open the can under water, prepare the fish aka debone it and deshin it. Eat it on a piece of flatbread with some cooked potato,red onions,chive and sour cream. It will taste so much better

Once, just once would I like to see a TH-cam video in which they open the can properly, prepare the fish properly and serve it properly. I would never eat this myself but as a Swede I know how it is done and it is not done like this.

Adam Godard I actually expected more from them since they usually serve the food as it is intended. I mean, I detest fish on average so I won't eat this but the only fish that can be eaten like that is pickled herring and even then you usually eat with other foods.

Eating surströmming without filetting it first and eating it with potato, sour cream, red onion and tunnbröd is like eating a big mac without cooking the meat and eating it without special sauce, iceberg lettuce, American cheese, pickles, and onions and the three-part sesame seed bun.

What about a challenge of recognizing fast food menu items? I mean,you give them a fast food menu item (a BigMac for example or a secret menu item),and they have to say what it is called and where it is from and if they recognize it they get a point,the person with most points gets their favorite menu item from whatever restaurant they want.
Surströmming is a Swedish delicacy from the old days.
It is eaten today, most of the older people in the north of Sweden.
But it is not eaten like that ... no one in Sweden eats straight from the can.
And when you open it, you do it in a plastic bag, so you do not get wet with the content.

Salting was a very common way to preserve fish prior to refrigeration and still is used in many places. But they soak the preserved fish in several changes of clean water before attempting to eat it!
