The epitome of so bad it's...well, not GOOD, but at least good for a laugh! This being early in the generation doesn't really excuse it, cuz there was still far better options available around the same time period. Still though, I did get some perverse pleasure from the horrible story and world, but man, I just wish the main character felt better to control, and the gunplay was y'know, satisfying. Anything else like Bulletwitch someone can suggest? Aside from X-Blades/Blades of Time?

I mentioned it in the comments already, but how about Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for the PS2, since it's from the same team at cavia who made Bullet Witch.
You should try the Hulk movie tie in game. It's bad but in a really weird game in that it's a Hulk game that's half stealth.

I miss it though. Early 7th gen games felt like 6th gen but in HD. Then midway through games started to have minor microtransactions that eventually led to the travesty we're in now.

regrettably i bought this game on purpose. four levels in, there's a boss fight on the back of a plane, 10,000 feet in the air, where you're defending the president of the united states from a skeleton kraken that shoots drill eyeballs that are trying to bring the plane down. then the next level is full of one-hit-kill snipers that you have to do that very slow backflip to avoid because there's no cover. now that i know about drakennier, finding out that cavia made this game made literally everything about it make sense.
so explain how that level is supposed to be a bad thing? with the "gritty" drek of video game titles that get shat out now that kind of ott fun should be rewarded
make no mistake my friend the boss fight owns absolute bones. the sniper level that immediately followed was the issue, because the very slow backflip is a very bad dodge and the snipers are incredibly good at hitting you. sort of like how you can swing from "i am dive-bombing a giant alien spider angel from the back of a dragon while the buttnastiest of butt rock plays" to "more 3D timed platforming in a game with a negative framerate" in drakengard 3. it's the dichotomy of cavia.
Fun Fact: the team at cavia that made Bullet Witch consisted of many team members who worked on Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for the PS2, which actually isn't too bad.
Also yes, cavia is dead, and Nier was their last game. Now all the team members have joined other companies like Comcept, Marvelous and Bandai Namco, or they've gone freelance like Yoko Taro did.

Kinda needs a remake. I can see this being something like bayonetta mixed with vanquish.
He dodge jump is cool and by cool I mean it reminds me of the insect glaive jump from Monster Hunter and I want all games to let me cartwheel dodge like im naked Raiden with a jumppad.
Yeah the main character looks cool as hell. Actual game...not so much. Remember using gamefly to rent it back in the day just..was kinda unfun.
The only thing I remember about this was the achievement for beating it on the hardest difficulty was only worth 1 point.

I bought and beat this game. You said it yourself, it does have a certain quality to it even though it's not a good game it's strangely entrancing. It's like a back alley, heroin addicted Bayonetta.
To answer you’re question matt, no. According to Wikipedia cavia is defunct as of 2010. Also interestingly Cavia is the scientific name for guinea pigs :3
Despite Cavia being defunct, they still managed to live on, since Drakengard 3 and Nier Automata got made.

For what its worth it should be illegal to put cool characters on hardware boxes without making a trashy action game for them.
When I was a young babby, I used to read and reread my copies of Tips and Tricks magazine. In particular, I loved to read the guide sections they'd have every so often, frequently for games I didn't have. I remember reading the guide to Bullet Wish, and thinking it sounded cool, wishing I had an Xbox so I could play it (even though I was not old enough to play M rated games at the time).
Seeing this now, I don't think I was actually missing much.

I used to have a friend who bought this based solely on the name and hoping it was a decent DMC clone. Think he beat it twice before moving on to "Legendary" I wish this was a joke

I remember this game from one episode of Cheats on G4. Even at the time I could tell from the gameplay that Bullet Witch wasn't very good.

Holy shit I forgot about this game! It's somehow worse than I remembered. Like the only thing of note I can recall from this game is that theres an achievement for playing 99 hours or something. And it's worth 99 points! I was the coolest kid for having a gamerscore that ended in 99.
I also remember being a SUPER edgelord by listening to Maximum the Hormone non-stop while playing. Good times.
Once Upon A Time...A roommate bought this game, and I started playing it before he got home from work. He walked in on me playing it when he got home, and got to listen to me complaining about how bad it was for 3 hours while I beat the last half of the game. I don't think he ever played it.
I bought this. Preordered it even, and actually enjoyed it thoroughly for what it is. I really like Cavia's style of janky-but-unusual games. Ghost in the Shell SAC, WinBack 2, Drakengard. All their games felt like they were made by people who didn't seem to quite know what they were doing, or have quite enough time or money to do it, but they sure did try!

This game is the epitome of early 360/PS3 era visuals. It's gotta look Realistic so crank up the Bloom and make everything Brown because Brown is the most realistic color!
i got bullet witch from game stop used. i loved it! 3rd favorite game on the xbox 360. i got it again when it was re-released on stream ( i love it but hell if i'm going to play it again).. if you need proof i'll send you a picture of me with it. why do i like it? i tend to like games like this, games where its a cluster F*%k of interesting ideas baldy blended in a broken bowl. everybody likes a rolling dumpster fire, never know what that poisonous light may shine on.
To answer your question, NieR would become Cavia's last game. They went under, after they announced (then cancelled) Cry On.

2006 had elder scrolls: oblivion, gears of war, and hitman blood money. Bullet witch was an odd game. I still played it however because i was in Okinawa, Japan and didn't have a big game selection on my base. I remember yelling at the tv alot.

When I was a teen my friend was obsessed with this game. She was also a massive weeaboo who wanted so bad to be a scene kid. The early-mid 2000s were something else.
I played this game and I kinda... liked. Yes, this game is thrash, the enemies are bullet sponges and the gameplay is janky, the story makes no sense at all and the graphics sucked even back then... but I have a thing for trashy games like this, I find funny and I even like the feel of using some of the strongest magics, like the thunderstorm or the murder of crows.
Also, you lost the best worst love interest/sidekick in the story of sidekicks. He appears only on chapter 2 I think.
I never played Bullet Witch, but my first high school girlfriend who liked metal, rock, and was edgier than the other teens owned it. Thinking back, this was definitely one of the target demographics

I bought this because it looked like if Onechanbara was a shooter. Because I love Onechanbara as much as I hate myself. But then we got School Girl/Zombie Hunter so this fell by the wayside. Maybe I'll pop this in next time things are going too well in my life.
2:40 I totally bought this game, expecting it to be terrible, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The game came with a full instruction manual, reversible box cover, and a poster, all of which I still have. By no means is this game good, but it has far more to offer than just this twenty minute walkthrough of the opening level can show. The menu wheel is designed that way because there are a lot of different abilities you can unlock and upgrade, but you only start off with a few. The environments are highly destructible, which can't be seen in the starting environment. Your "super" abilities can level large buildings in the city levels. The enemies taunt you while fighting and they have a surprising variety of voice lines with jokes and swears, though enemy variety is lacking. 16:25 And yes, I finished this game.

I loved Bullet Witch, I remember playing it for abit but according to my account I beat the game atleast once. Venetica, Velvet Assassin and the Ninety-Nine Nights games are all janky games I remember having fun with too.

Jokes on you I brought Bullet Witch X-Blades and Blades of time TWICE!!!! once on 360 and again on steam and considering the Switch port of Blades of Time for another round.
Edit: also Bullet Witch's gameplay is a slow start, it does get better once you actually power the MC up all the way.
It's a lot more fun when you unlock all abilities

Cavia died after Nier I think LOL. My dad use to get me random games he thought I might like and Bullet Witch was one of them, I use the play the beginning level on repeat when I was younger because I thought Alicia was pretty. Jank and all I should probably finally beat this game, i always loved the costumes for it LOL.
I wish he played a bit longer to see "If RE5 Chris and Francis York Morgan had a baby boy he would look exactly like that" commander guy. That guy's voice and lines is sure something else lol.

Not too long ago I played through this entire game in one go streaming it to my friends on Steam.

I guess I’m the only one who liked this game!, genuinely enjoyed it, sure it's janky but it had some neat ideas, the whole broomgun thing was cool, some of Alicia's super moves rocked too, also, there aren't any 'dead' in They Live, they're aliens fool.
Late to this video, but this game was... very weird for me to say the least. I'm the closest thing to a Bullet Witch pro you'll ever find.
If you played to like chapter 2, 3, 5 too I guess.... you see humans turn into this ragdoll/zombie... they're heads turn to the size of large pumpkin but have a hole in the face area and run around all crazy like and make very wobbly sounds... It LITERALLY gave me nightmares and I have it on PC (steam) and I still shake in disgust/fear to this day.
But the other missions, with all powers/spells/guns (since the game has a passive NG+) were really fun to me whenever the game didn't fuck up on physics.
You can upgrade the Willpower spell like 3 times and push things to an even greater force and sometimes it'll push things from way behind you, forward, and you'd die instantly. Then there are harder difficulties and ... Snipers ... enemies have like... the hitboxes of a Naruto storm 4 character, the ones with guns have aim bot... and again.... SNIPERS.... as you'd imagine, yes, they do 1shot you. But even passed that, I love this game a lot and the one thing I hated was the Great Spells (Lightning for example), the opening of the game/gameplay trailer, shows you being able to use Greater Spells like Meteors and Tornado on earlier stages when that just isn't the case since they're locked behind story events. Biggest example, passive NG+, you buy a spell from the shop, that spell is still there when you start a new game from scratch. You can have the game 100% complete with all spells but YOU CANNOT use Lightning until that voice in the first mission says "Hey, did you forget? You can use Lightning to slay these fools". Then you can do Lightning. Similarly to the Tornado and Meteor. Even thought they'll still show up in the slots they belong on the spell wheel... just greyed out.

I bought this recently. I kind of wish I hadn't.
I understand why people would compare this to Bayonetta, but even though it predates that game by three years, Bullet Witch borrows from what the Platinum Games team had done at Capcom years before. The athletic dodges in particular remind me of Product No. 9 for the GameCube. I just wish it had some semblance of humor, the way Platinum's games often do.
tim rogers said the opening lvl was a case study for making a linear lvl feel open world but I never played it so...
In the Polish Alphabet there are letters beyond the letter Z Matt, like the letter "Ż" which is the 2nd after Z. I think it would accurately indicate your YT tier. However, it doesnt matter it doesnt matter because you have a very loyal and dedicated fanbase. But who cares how well known you are? What matter that you like what you do and your fans like it too.
So here's the thing about Bulletwitch: I cleared my GameFly queue to "Force" them to send me Crackdown at launch for that Halo 3 beta because I was a poor. Unknown to me, my roommate at the time put this game on the queue the day before Crackdown released, so I got Bulletwitch.
I feel like the lone lover/defender of Bulletwitch and yes, I did buy it eventually...when Best Buy had it on clearance for $5 because I wanted to revisit it and see if I could 1000/1000 the achievements.
The plane boss is why I never got all the achievements. EDIT: My Gamertag is Keavy Rain, you can see I earned achievements around launch time because, again, I was a poor and figured I could at least try to salvage this while my friends were cleaning up crime while waiting for the Halo 3 beta.
I didn't buy this but my uncle did. I was not good at this game. Gave it many shots but just...no. Even as a dumb child that didn't know better I just couldn't. But then Bayonetta, so y'know. It worked out.
Cavia is super dead, they got cannibalised by their parent company in order to fund Sakaguchi's attempt to remain relevant (aka, Last Story).

As much as you may joke and hate, I actually loved the game, despite its flaws it was pretty fun as a run and gun and the aesthetic were pretty cool.
So, we can all at least agree that Bullet Witch is the worst possible timeline. Seriously. Like... 9 years and we go from okay to humanity's nearly extinct.
