I really think this lens will be the new go to for starting wildlife photographers, I've seen some reviews and they all say it's very sharp and the VC works great. And a 600mm lens at this price that is sharp is amazing, if Sigma doesn't come up with something new they gonna loose this segment of the market.
I've had one for a couple of weeks now and I love it.@Anthony look at some of the smaller stores. I found one at a local store. Sears is selling them via a camera store in Oregon. I'm still waiting on B&H to notify me.
1/20 @600mm hand held..that's pretty darn good Matt.. I'm interested what this lens would do on nikon d7100 for birds and wildlife.its a cropped sensor , plus you can put it in crop mode ..that shoot get you pretty dang close.right around equivalent to 1200mm.
Just as I was ready to put my money down on a Nikon 80-400, this comes along. Back on the fence now. Gonna have to rent this lens before I put my money down.
Too bad.... I just bought a year ago the Sigma 50-500 OS but i have to say i am still very happy with it. Took some amazing shots in Africa with it. Do you know if this one is sharper at 600mm then the Sigma is at 500mm? I know the more you zoom the better light you need, last month i used the Sigma in Canada and it was very difficult to get a good sharp shot just because the trees were blocking a lot of light were while in Africa it was winter so there were almost no leaves at the tree which gave me good light.
Impressive, 225 - 900 on a 1.5 crop. I imagine on a D7100, shooting wildlife this would be a dream lens. (or the Canon equivalent 240 - 960 on a 1.6 crop like the 70D)
Nope. Crop sensors just trim the edges of what a full frame would produce. Crop sensors reduce the field of view only. Nothing else if affected. An iphone has a crop factor of about 7.5. If I attach it to a 1000mm lens does it become a 7500mm lens? Focal length is the distance between the focussing element and the sensor measured in mm usually. Just search "does crop sensor increase focal length" and there is a plethora of examples to look at
This lens is not really out. There seem to be a few people who have one, but B&H still shows it as pre-order. I've been trying to buy the canon version since January.
This lens looks very promising, indoors at the high ISO it looks like it's producing some sharp shots. outside for wildlife, seems wildlife shooters are going to have a blast with this lens. looks sharp for the most part but yet to see
Matt - how fast was the AF on this lens? would it be suitably fast for some amateur outdoors sports shooting (beach volleyball and similar) mounted on a Canon 7D body? I have Canon's 300/4L IS so would only use the 400-600 range on this.
I am an ameteur bird photographer and am planning to buy the nikon d7200 for birding. But im stuck on which lens to buy. Ive got 3 options.. 1. Buy the tamron sp 150 600mm lens 2. Buy the nikon 70 300mm lens with a good teleconverter. 3. Get a spotting scope. The reason for the confusion is i dont know which one will give me the best results..... if u r suggesting option 2 or 3 please tell which teleconverter or spotting scope i should use?? Thanks in advance. Regards.
+Kanak Naik Definitely the Tamron, the Nikon 70-300mm will be very slow with a teleconverter and the image quality will suffer quite badly. And I would also say the Tamron would give better results than the spotting scope. The tamron is liked and used alot by bird photographers.
How ideal is this for capturing sporting events both indoors & outdoors? Also this is on sale for about $1100 + sales taxes CDN, is that good value for my buck?
Looks good but wasn't that the DF body? I'm guessing it is designed for users of lower end bodies. I wonder what the focus would be like on body with not so many focus sensors? Anyone want to buy a Sigma 50-500OS?
+Richard Pearshouse Yes as long as you buy a Nikon fit model, and the quality will be really quite good, although slightly better on a full frame body.
the new Tanron VC is surprisingly good, as in really really good. I did some video test shots on my ($350) Tam 70-300 VC at 300mm with VC on and it's silly how well it works. optics might be weak at that point, but VC is very strong.
Impressive! Too bad Tamron is soooooo hard headed about adding VC to Sony A-mounts. I'm aware of their reasoning, but, at least for my Sony A77, in body stabilization sucks. I prefer the in-lens stabilizations. I like to shoot outdoor motorsports, so I am highly considering this for the 600mm and price point.
Really unimpressed with the images. To my eye they lacked sharpness and contrast. Call me a lens snob, but the shots looked like they were taken with one of those cheap kit 75-300 zooms.
So a kit lens (lets say the 55-200mm nikon one could take images somewhat like that? because theres a huge price difference right there (and im also getting the 55-200 kit lens for its low price).
These are also taken indoors, at an extremely high ISO.... what do you expect. This lens does require work to get the best results, although I'm sure most 600mm lenses do. Even touching the shutter button/camera at all sometimes, even on a tripod, can cause a huge amount of camera shake in the viewfinder. It is a tad soft wide open at 600, wide open at 400 its very sharp. But stopped down, even to 7.1, it sharpens up. In all tests I've seen online, this as AS sharp or sharper than the Canon 100-400.
Nice short and sweet review. But, who is that irritating guy (at 3.20 min to 3.50 min), with the case, giving you dirty looks? ... he looked like he hates you :)'
Impressed by the vc. Hope you will do a full review some time soon with some outdoor shots.
Nice vid

Sweet review. I didn't expect to see this here. I'm buying this as soon as stock shows up in the US.

It would be nice to see a review on the sigma equivalent vs the tamron
Hi Matt, I notice the white balance varying quite a bit, is that your camera or Utube?
eg: 0:35
The guy with the luggage thought you were taking his pic lol
***** Mouhahahahahahahaha so funny !!!!
Big dude hoping you're taking photos of him! 3:20
That baby on a DX and you can start shooting astronauts in the ISS ! lol

Very nice review. You just sold me this lens. I'm buying it as soon as it comes out.

That beast lens on the Nikon 1 series... imagine that crop factor. (o.0)
crop sensors dont increase the focal length
Tristan, look at the Tamron site. In fact look at any photography site. The focal length of a lens does change depending on the size of the sensor.
Nope. Crop sensors just trim the edges of what a full frame would produce. Crop sensors reduce the field of view only. Nothing else if affected.

Equivalent crop factor is a thing. Go read some articles, you may learn something because you obviously don't know anything.
I was in Melbourne in January, quoted $1200 firm at Ted's.
This lens is not really out. There seem to be a few people who have one, but B&H still shows it as pre-order. I've been trying to buy the canon version since January.
me too A99 mount is what i want
I got one back in March.
Anthony Martin
mine shipped yesterday
nice review, any chance for an photowalk @Photkina in cologne?

woah i didn't know you had another channel, Matt!
What's up with the Goone mean-mugging you?
Can I get auto focus in canon cameras that aren't from 1D series??
Hopefully my next purchase :) £949 new in the UK at the moment.
Matt how good would this lens be on my d7100 for night shoots of the moon and planets? Your thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

Tamron est super et est toujours compatible avec les reflex du moment
i have a question when you focus to minimum to infinity. dose the lens in the back move , the lens side to the camera ?
most of my glass is L glass but if its sharp wide open its on my list as is the tamy 24-70 f2.8 vc which will be here soon

How can I get one of your shirts from the video? Nice review on the lens.

Great review, nice lens for the budget non pro shooter
Looks good but wasn't that the DF body? I'm guessing it is designed for users of lower end bodies. I wonder what the focus would be like on body with not so many focus sensors?
Anyone want to buy a Sigma 50-500OS?
never liked the tamron plastic build quality but they do have some good lenses.
I have a Nikon D7100, would this lens be compatible with this camera and if so, what sort of quality would it give.
+Richard Pearshouse Yes as long as you buy a Nikon fit model, and the quality will be really quite good, although slightly better on a full frame body.
OMG you are stable as a rock! Not sure if i could shot 1/20 sec even with my 18-55mm lens kit with VR ON XD
the new Tanron VC is surprisingly good, as in really really good. I did some video test shots on my ($350) Tam 70-300 VC at 300mm with VC on and it's silly how well it works. optics might be weak at that point, but VC is very strong.
A great performance plus a great price equals...A no brainer!!
It also equals a great pic of the next blood moon! Thanks for the review.
some pentax k3 rev?
I'm a little bit confused among tamron 150-600 and nikon 200-500 ... please help me guys
does it work on a FX camera, I kinda forgot!!!!
yes
Nikon 80-400mm 4.5-5.6G or this Tamron 150-600mm (shooting landscape, wildlife, fast moving objects) on a DX body
The White Balance change continuosly in the entire video... nice review btw

After 3:35 I like the look of that guy at the right. 😝
hahaha!! my security then he gave you the look

dgd264 Well obviously not the same reach (200 vs 600), but the image quality looks about the same to me.
Thats good enough for me XD, ty

mLichy911
That is true - most taken at 12,800 ISO
i thought you werent supposed to shoot less than your set range so every one on hear says
3:40 ahahah
Want one for my v1, Helooooo 1620mm... silly :)
crop sensors dont increase focal length. This lens is 150-600 regardless of sensor size
Man with mask @ 2.48 - doesn't want to be poisoned to death inside trade show building!?!...
soft on 600mm but you geth what you are payingfore
Nice short and sweet review. But, who is that irritating guy (at 3.20 min to 3.50 min), with the case, giving you dirty looks? ... he looked like he hates you :)'
@j14mp, see my comment above.
