I actually went as Jared Leto's Joker last Halloween.
I stayed in character the whole night, had people cracking up. But I knew how to restrain myself, and even stayed sober for the whole night so I wouldn't come off as too obnoxious.

I never really understood the hatred towards Ryan Reynolds when it came to this movie. Yes, the movie is terrible, but I never blamed or hated Ryan for it. Even for Wolverine Origins and Blade 3, I just blamed the people in charge.
Yes, it's strange that people blame the actor, when he's not in charge of any creative decision. The same happened with poor Ben Affleck in Daredevil. Actually, his performance is probably the best thing about that terrible movie. Reynolds is not the writer, director or producer in this movie, so how is that his fault? Even his acting can be at least in part blamed on the director.
If anything Reynolds wanted to back out from Origins when he found out what misdirection they were going for with the character, by that point he was legally obligated to continue with the project...notice hes showing no fucks given while he's playing Wade and the guy at the end playing Weapon X isn't even Reynolds??
Yes... Like Affleck was blamed with Daredevil when he was announced to be the next Batman. People sucks.
And as far as Reynolds' performance, did anybody even READ the Green Lantern comics from the 60's and 70's? That's what Hal Jordon was like. And he would have TOTALLY used the Hot Wheels construct.
I especially don't understand it when he knows how much crap those movies were, even during production for Origins. But at least he got the Laura laugh when both of those performances are made fun of in Deadpool.
BUT Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively meet and married because of this movie, and they are a power couple, so the movies existence is excused.

The worst part about Green Lantern was it's CGI. It just looks terrible, it's not fooling anyone into thinking it looks like real flesh or cloth or light.

Same, it's one of my favorites part in the credits ^^ It was hilarious, just perfect; i loved it and even said ' Thank's Deadpool!' out loud in the theater then applause. A few peoples in the room did it too actually, it was great!

@Lord Dash Donald Dappington ... that spelling makes the joke less funny actually as it's easier to read it wrong. Also, Nostalgia Critic clearly says "Moron" and not "Mauron" (assuming that you would pronounce the "au" in "Mauron" the same way you pronounce the "au" in "Sauron").

Fun fact Marc Guggenheim (of the arrowverse shows) original script of the film was basically training day in space with Sinestro teaching Hal how to be a Green Lantern, heavily focuses on space and the actual corps and only spends about 15 percent of the film in on earth...how we got this from that original script is anyone's guess.
It was felt that the original script would not connect well with audiences who were not GL fans.
Given how Guggenheim has handled Green Arrow... I'm guessing his film would lull people into thinking it's good... only for the next two movies to drop HORRIBLY in quality. Especially for the female characters.

Right?! At least Mordo in Doctor Strange had a gripping motivation. Everything he’d been taught to believe was proven wrong and his reality was shattered. Sinestro turned evil because they thought it would make good sequel bait.
No reason? Sinestro did it because Guardians restricted using a weapon that is much more powerful than Green Lantern ring and we see his disbelief is Guardians' actions many times in the film
pretty much sums up all the characters motivations. Hal Jordan doesnt even make sense in this movie, fighter pilots are crazy devoted to their jobs since it's insanely competitive and takes a huge amount of training and skill. They're college educated military officers, not lazy drop outs that are too cool for school. The villians are just like "welp, I guess I'm gonna destroy the world"

Get this: we should've had both a movie based on Thor: Ragnarok and one on Planet Hulk, SEPARATELY!!! I would've loved to see the live-action version of Planet Hulk. Instead, we got a fusion film.
Green Lantern is my favorite hero of all time. He's got an imaginative concept and some of the most colorful and entertaining comic book stories I've ever read.
It's a shame this film captured absolutely none of that.

A friend of mine is a huge fan of Green Lantern so when he heard this movie was coming out he wouldn't stop taking about, after he saw it he never talked about it again. Also congrats Devil Boner and Hyper Fan Girl.

Actually, the post credit scene was suppose to symbolize one of the 9 Lantern Corps. The Green uses the power of Will and the Yellow uses the power of Fear. There's Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, Black and White Lanterns.

The one way Spider-Man voiced green lantern was good. Same when Spiderman voiced flash, and Norman Osborn, and Harry osborn, and Robin, and aquaman, gee he voices a lot of characters.

@@luckyDancer100 Same reason for everyone else, I guess. Typically, staying on at least means not being labeled an asshole by directors. It's like Bill Murray in Garfield 1 and 2. Regardless, if I were to fix this movie, I would have casted Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan and had Taika Waititi direct this. THAT would have been amazing. Instead, we got a guy who wanted fucking Jack Black as Hal Jordan.
Pretty sure her recognizing him immediately in an obvious and "comedic" way is a nod in reference to pretty much every superhero romance story i.e. Clark Kent + hair gel - glasses = Superman. One of two things in that whole movie made me laugh-adjacent-ish...the other is Peter Sarsgaard leaning in to dramatically sip his drink

People scoff at how no one can recognize Clark Kent is Superman, but there are plenty of real world examples that show it's entirely plausible. Dolly Parton entered a Dolly Parton lookalike contest and lost. Hugh Jackman has walked around convention floors in his Wolverine stuff and not been recognized. He was even once told he was "too tall" to be Wolverine lol

MrRyanAndre it's pretty sad. Deadpool is my favorite comic book character and I would've liked to cosplay as him if I ever went to a con but so many people dress as him and view it as a free pass to be a dick and I don't know if I wanna be associated with those asshats, even tangentially.

In 2011 there was Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and Green Lantern.
Now all these are comic book blockbusters, I'm not talking about them like cinematic art, but why were the first two successful while Green Lantern sucked?
"Thor" at least had a charming main character and compelling Shakespearian stories-inspired figure with Loki and his subplot, Captain America's first two acts were strong with a great protagonist who wants to do the right thing despite his limitations and it all had a pulpy '40s retro scifi comic book adventure look (same director of The Rocketeer after all) that made it appealing.
...Green Lantern instead has tropes that should have died in the early 2000s and is just visually shit with designs and special effects.

I haven't seen the film (given the way it looks, I'd like to think I can be forgiven for not wanting to) but from what I could see in the review it does seem to be appropriate commentary on the kind of stupid superhero costumes that do, at best, hide a little of the characters cheek bones and somehow still are supposed to conceal the hero's identity to their near and dear and applicable government agencies. The tiny-ass masks are stupid.

As a GL fan I was very disappointed in this movie. I could have forgiven the mediocre effects if they had told Hal's origin story well enough and sadly that wasn't the case. Also, just having Sinestro take ring without reason, especially since he agreed not use it was dumb. Also they wrote out the weaponers of Qwarde the ones that made the yellow ring in first place.
They should kept story closer to story in the comics and showcased Hal's training with Sinestro and have him see and expose Sinestro's darker side. Yeah it would have been a great powers come great responsibility story but it would been better than this crud.
Problem is studios think like Critic and some people commenting here: that the movie should not adhere to the source material in order to "appeal to general audiences", when in fact it should be as you said and made entirely for comic book fans. If it's good that way, these fans will be vocal enough to attract said general audiences. If not, the fans will be even more vocal and drive everyone away (as has been happening recently).
I too agree that it missed a lot of opportunities. Had good ideas, but just did not execute
Also, I completely agree that Sinestro turning evil in the post credit scene did come TF out of nowhere, felt like a tacked on bit to set up the sequel (which of course never happened)

kungfufudgefinger To be fair, I'm not too familiar with the comic iteration of Larfleeze, but otherwise, the show had interesting, flawed, and well developed characters, strong story telling, and a stellar cast of voice actors! The CG animation style took a little getting used to, but as far as I can tell, it's a relatively strong adaptation, that isn't afraid to break new ground where necessary: what more could you ask for from an adaptation??
And then the movie killed the animated series because it wasn't good enough to sell toys. That's the biggest reason I resent this film.

The Animated Movie "Green Lantern: First Flight" is such a better origin movie despite being only 77 minutes long. Plus only the first five minutes are on Earth while the rest of it is in space as it should be.
