    I have some reverb pedals collected over the years. Avalanche, HW Supernatural, Afterneath, Silverlake. I will likely sell the Avalanche Run and get a Nightsky. I have a use for it in mind for my side channel. I use a mixer in front of my Stereo tube amp so I can side mix things like guitar synth effects and different ambient effects. Parallel process is what makes the "algorithms" sound so good.

  • @RED_indiemusic
    @RED_indiemusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very good tips Antoine. I think the the pre-delay helped me especially to keep my guitar from sounding to be like it's drowning in a pool of reverb. Also about the shimmer, the effect should be used wisely. How much is enough depends on personal taste. Yet, a good go-by would be listening to U2's Joshua Tree. It helps to determine where and when to use shimmer. As far as droning goes, no need to limit shimmering. Personally I believe shimmer is appropriate for synths. So to me it depends on the style and what not.
    Merci becoup mon Ami. Until next time!

    I respectfully wouldn’t call any of these “mistakes” as they can be someone’s creative choice and there is no right or wrong way to use the reverb. If I’m not using a modulation on my reverb, it’s not a mistake, it’s a personal choice. So is using it ...

    Hi, Antoine! I don't know if the order in which you listed things "not to do" was intentional, but it sparked a question: When trying to dial in the perfect setting for a custom preset, is there an "order of operations?" I know it's art and there are no "rules," but since we're layering dynamics/parameters, it seems there would be some intentional choice about what should be laid down first...? Yea, I know your answer would probably launch a thousand arguments to the contrary and that it's probably a reflexive act based on experience, but it doesn't invalidate the curiosity. As always, thank you!!!

    If you wanna immitate a huge room with hall you have to put a good ammount of predelay on.
    It is really unrealistic if not because in a big room or stadion arena etc. it takes the reflections a while to come back to your ear.
    Which means that long decay halls without predelay is completely unrealistic.

    An issue I have had and hopefully you could clear this up for me... Are there Reverbs that work well in front of an amp? I know the effects loop is ideal. Also, certain amps take pedals in front better too but can you comment on that? What amp and/or Reverbs work well in front of an amp? Also, in mono?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everything you are hearing on my channel is actually in front of the amps! Yes, it's ideal in the effects loop, but far from mandatory. The big principle here is to setup your amps very clean. As long as your amp is not on the edge of breakup, or pushing into overdrive, you are ok. The goal of using the effects loop is to bypass the gain section of the amp so you don't end up adding reverbs before gain (because your pedals are before your amp, right?). So any amp that can provide you with the cleanest of cleans - most often done with low gain and high master volume settings - can work. I'm thinking Fender amps or Vox AC15 or 30 (like I'm using), or really, any amp that is known for good clean sounds.

    • @danwillmann9193
      @danwillmann9193 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntoineMichaudGuitar Awesome response and thank you!
      I've had a lot of problems with delay for the same reason, the gain stage amplifies the delays and sounds terrible. So, I'm going to play around with different dirt pedals into a Reverb into a clean amp.
      Thanks again!

      @dostacos1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you haven’t tried a ‘59 Bassman reissue, you should. It is an incredible pedal platform amp. It doesn’t have a ton of features, but it takes pedals better than anything else I’ve ever tried and the tone is near unbeatable.

    Yep most shimmer reverbs are crap. I use the the H9 shimmer to create synth like drones, but that has options for pitch shift down as well as up so you can make that sound really really good and not at all cheesy. Otherwise I use a shimmer I created on the Empress Zoia specifically for doing With or Without You.

    • @peterjessop1878
      @peterjessop1878 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martino De Lazzari Wouldn’t you also be compressing the dry signal? though that of course can be cool if that’s the sound you want. Some pedals have an effects loop so you can put the compressor just on the trails to thicken them up alone.

    • @martinodelazzari6373
      @martinodelazzari6373 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a small board that I use live and I am experimenting with different positions of the compressor pedal. I can put it first on the chain, after the overdrives, after the reverb/delay but before the amp sim or at the end of the chain after the amp sim. Every position has some pros and some cons...I haven't made my up my mind yet...

    • @peterjessop1878
      @peterjessop1878 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martino De Lazzari as with all these things there is no right or wrong just what works for you. Heavily depends On The type of music you play too. I use an optical compressor at the start of my chain just as a sweetener and to improve the feel under the fingers. Others use it after overdrive as a boost pedal. Good luck with your experiments.

    T'as des recommandations dans le price range de 300$ pour des pédales de reverb sur lesquelles on peut mettre des octaves (genre shimmer) mais avec des modulations et qui permet de go 100% wet ?

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pas beaucoup de choix pour ce que tu demandes, c'est bien vrai. Récemment j'ai essayé la Neunaber Illumine qui permet tout ça, mais est hors de ton budget. La seule autre que je vois serais la Electro Harmonix Oceans 11. Elle permet d'aller 100% wet, a un mode shimmer, et sur le mode shimmer il est possible de contrôler les fonctions secondaires pour le speed et depth de la modulation. Elle est juste 200$ en plus. Seul bémol, elle est mono, donc si tu veux une pédale stéréo, il faut y aller avec la Oceans 12, elle est légèrement au-dessus de ton budget, mais pas trop comparé à une Strymon par exemple.

    What you say about shimer goes for so many fashions, discoveries and inventions. Like after the prog and power rock people got excited with the baseless and clean syths of the 80's. Naturally guitars and grunge with their human errors and sensitivity came on the block. Then later people got bored with this to. It's like when something new is introduced it always gets overused because of our childish excitement. So it takes some time for us to find back to these instruments or sounds and use them in moderation. Right now one might say that random modulations, tape and vinyl emulations, glitch and bitcrushing is the new "to much"?

      Love my carpet :-) I took a dense one to cut most of the echo in my room and that worked really well!

    Maybe it's just my wallet talking, but the immerse sounds much better than the big sky?

      I've had the immerse mk1 for 3 years and I don't regret a single bit of it

      I have both. I have relegated the Immerse as my "always on" reverb because, for me, it seemed easier to get a more transparent reverb. I use the Big Sky for more focused or special types of reverb. I find the two pedals to be different enough as to be both very useful.
      I recommended the Immerse to my friend who doesn't care for tweaking. He loves it and it is his "always on".

      I’ve had an Immerse mk1 for 3 years and up until recently it was my always on reverb when playing guitar live. Only changed it because it’s now the main reverb on the pedal board I use for all my synths when recording. Using it purely to provide a bit of room ambience doesn’t do the pedal justice. The Wet Algo is just incredible.

      The Immerse MKII is an amazing reverb. Another of my favorites is the Keeley Omni Reverb from Sweetwater.com

    I love reverb pedals because they let us ditch the keyboard player, which allows me a bigger share of the $$.

    Great video for people who never will use any overdrive / gain. Otherwise, absolutely pointless

    Disagree with #1, what you need to compete with other instruments is sustain which you can better get with a Compressor

    Hahaha omg that is a terrible shimmer effect. My Big Sky has never made those sounds, that's an intentionally mangled preset you created to fix on this video, right?

    This guy has more money and time than sense. Almost all of these would sound like a crappy washed out mess in a band
