Oh no… not another stupid Top 5 video!
    Yes :-)
    But, it’s not stupid!
It really is 5 things I would have wanted to know with delay pedals when I first started.
A delay pedal seems really straight forward, but it’s actually not that much.
Those are all questions you could ask yourself about delays:
    - Where to place it in the chain?
    - How to best use gain with it?
    - What’s the best delay tempo to use on my song?
    - What’s the right amount of mix and repeats to get the best sound?
    - Which delay type should I get?
In this new video I answer all of these questions!
If you’ve got any other mistakes you’ve made with delay pedals, share them in the comment section. I’d like to know!

I often put delay before gain. I love the raunchy sound that it makes.

Good stuff Antoine. Playing in a Rush tribute band, I have had to learn how to use the delays (and reverbs) the right way. Good information here!

I so love RUSH. But only saw them in concert maybe five times. Hemispheres to Permanent Waves are my favorite faves. After Hold Your Fire there are still some really good songs, notably Driven and others. What I really wanted to tell you is YES!! Alex does certain solos, the name of which escapes me because I've got this Hall and Oates song (Man Eater, of all the luck) stuck in my head. One uses delay and it just makes this epic RUSH song even more. Good luck with your tribute band. Hope you really tear it up. I'd really like to hear you guys.

Would love to know a little more about choosing delay subdivisions depending on what you’re playing. Ie if I play rhythm and want to tuck in some delays to add more space to my playing or for solos. Thanks! You are always informative

But how do you handle if you need different tempos for different songs while playing live? I play for a church and often I am playing the intros, so I don't have time to tap the tempo because I am the one starting off the song.

I do not agree with #2. I like the sound of delay going into overdrive/distortion. Just ask Steven Wilson and Niel Young on how much they like and do it. It is all about how you setup your delay. Of course the way you had it setup in your example, it did not work, but when done right it sounds awesome.

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree with you and I think we mean the same thing! I worded it like this: ''TOO MUCH gain after your delays''. It can sound great, but overdoing it is never a good idea in that particular setup. The mistake is not to put gain after a delay, but it's more if you place your dedicated aggressive distortion pedal after it.

First 4 minutes if you're in a hurry. 1 - Place delay AFTER volume pedal. 2 - Place gain pedals BEFORE delay pedals. Cheers.

@@montazownianr1 Nah, he could buy other instruments. Pedals can be used with a lot of instruments, not just guitar.
      Nice try though.
