Trying to confuse us like he's Dr. Neal? Didn't say which cholesterol Coconut oil and other saturated fats in raise. They raise good cholesterol! Can't trick me. Eggs have choline which breaks down the bad cholesterol in eggs.

Love Dr. Neal! I wish he could come give a presentation on nutrition to my nursing school! I think this would be so helpful for nurses and doctors to hear and incorporate into patient care. It's time to do away with that old-fashioned way of thinking and move forward!

Dr Barnard's recommendations, advice and explanations are excellent - there is a lot of dubious, ill conceived and wrong advice with regards to health / nutritional and dietary information etc being touted, promoted by others...
My father had me when nearly 50 , spoke 3 languages , kept mentally and physically active and ate and drank everything in moderation of good quality.
At 77 he left to work with my older Stepsister in an Orphanage in Burma ( Mayanmar) for 4yrs. He passed away peacefully at 93 yrs old.
Nothing but respect for this Doctor and regards to the Host of the Exam Room.

Me too. I eat cauliflower and kale and broccoli daily, in a huge salad. You damage the cruciferous when cooked because you damage the enzymes that create sulforaphane in broccoli and similar sulfur compounds in the other cruciferous veggies. Sulforaphane is great for brain health and inflammation.

@@Debra_Hasatheory one doesn’t need that much protein. Most Americans are getting twice what they need! The only reason one would not get enough protein on a plant-exclusive diet is if one ate a substantial number of calories from oils (which are pure fat and devoid of protein) or fruits (which have protein, but a smaller percentage of their calories is from protein). If one eats a balanced diet, with a variety of veggies, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, as one is supposed to, one will get the optimal amount of protein and a good balance of essential amino acids.

    My weird chili smoothie -
    3 frozen roma tomatoes
    1/2 cup of chili powder
1 cup of very wet cooked lentils
optional - Half a peeled lime
optional - Half a peeled avocado
optional - any spices or herbs you think would taste good with it.
Blend until blended. It's ice cold, a smoothie, and chili. I make it mainly during the summer, when it's just to darned hot to be cooking and eating hot chili.
It's a very weird experience to have it for the first time, but I like it. If I was a drinker, I'd toss in a teaspoon of tequila, just for the flavor.

Before all the current processed oils, what did people use for fat in their cooking, and what affect did it have on their health? Are there any scientific studies from the 3 most recent centuries that address these questions? And how do you explain the diets of countless countries that embrace and liberally use coconut and palm oils that live long, healthy, active lives? There serms to be some key missing information that screams for more diverse research.

While coconut oil is harmful, Coconut flesh appears to be neutral. Not healthy, but neutral. I buy coconut butter, then pour out the oil that’s collected on top (and use it as a moisturizer). This way it is reduced in fat and what remains is concentrated coconut pulp, which is more flavorful.

My first time watching this channel. A lot of information was known previously, but so far this is one of the most beneficial and educating videos I have seen especially on mild cognitive part, its diet, and hormonal shift plays role in menopause. I would be interested to see more details on IBS and Celiac disease. Thank you both on making this happen.

Thank you so much for this. I've been wondering why my brain isn't feeling like it is functioning as much as I'd like it to, and I'm nearly 33. I'm still on a vegetarian diet at the moment and the process of weaning myself off dairy including cheese is slow. It is taking longer than I thought it would but I'm aiming by the next veganuary as my deadline in turning completely vegan/plant based.

Have been listening to diet regimes for at least 40 years and the number of various diets was about 15 so not one worked long term because we would all be using it now. . I tried exercise and eating more veg but three weeks and I lost only 1kg. So I went back to how we must have lived as cavemen. Grubbing around for food growing in the ground, picking berries , nuts off the bush when in season and them things hanging in the trees. The odd steak when the men managed to kill a bison. We didn’t drink milk, just plain old fashioned water. Oil, well that definitely came later. But we were busy up and down all day too. And here we are hearing just what is being recommended by Dr Barnard. So I have followed his advice and 1kg in one week. Just brilliant. Thank you, I feel really really healthy. Best advice by far.

Please go on a keto diet.
So long as you keep your carbs low fat is healthy. Your growth hormones naturally burns excessive fat. However this hormones can’t burn fat while you have spiking levels of insulin. To keep your blood insulin low reduce your carb intake. That’s why the whole idea of being a vegan is a recipe for disaster!

Excellent ,informative to repeat again and again for the masses and even our colleques medical doctors do not have time to educate their selves about healthy life style and most of them except lucky few are metabolically unhealthy.Thank you ,both, you need to change policies by politicians ( Aristotle mentioned politics impact lives in millions). We need to act to change and not only talking to the interested few.Thank you.About time ,to mitigate the damage done to health of ordinary people.

I'm a disabled veteran that suffers from consistent severe migraines and I'm already suffering from these issues. Problem is...... I'm barely in my 40's!!! I was told that it has something to do with my migraines and have noticed this from the time I was about 10. I've brought it up numerous times and everyone ignored me and the signs I kept telling them about only to be told what I already knew... I had basically developed scaring on the brain from the migraine headaches which was causing my cognitive decline...

In India, the Alzheimer’s disease is almost absent. They attribute that to daily consumption of turmeric (one of the curry spices). Recent studies, as per Nutrition Facts Organization, have shown even reversal of cognitive decline when people consumed half a tea-spoon of turmeric a day (this is not seen with curcumin extract, only seen with the whole spice)
