Drop your side skirts every other year to check for rust as it starts around the doglegs and at the jack points. Ask me how I know! I'll be welding new metal in next month. Dropping the side skirts is quite easy. Takes maybe 10 minutes a side and good preventative maintenance. Consider using POR-15 rust paint as well along with their top-coat as POR-15 by itself is sensitive to UV and will break down.
The reason for the exhaust hanging is due to the rear driver side hanger on the muffler being bent. This usually happens on that corner of the muffler as the salt and dirt from the roar hit it directly by the rear wheel. But if it has come to this point, I would strongly recommend replacing the rear muffler as it can fall of while driving. Been there, done that on both my 2001 9-5 and my 2006 9-5. BTW that hanger also likes to break completely of the muffler, causing an exhaust leak.
I can't tell about the rest of your exhaust, but the muffler looks like it's nearing the end of its service life. Just replace the muffler with a smaller one that doesn't bump no matter how much the exhaust moves :) Man, that stock muffler is gigantic!
Have the same problem with the exhaust back box outer shell rotting away but it has been like that for a long time on my 06 saab Linear Sport. Didn't give any problems yet. Touch wood !!!
Old video I know, but you should loosen the exhaust from the front section and then turn the rear section inc backbox slightly clockwise as it has not been istalled right at some stage. It will then be in the middle of the cutout where you want it to be, also use some soapy water solution when putting on rubbers / clips etc ................. powerflex ? ............ OE always IMO.
Yes, there's something going on with the exhaust, but I'm not touching it before replacement as everything will be corroded together and rusty. Powerflex > OEM in this case :)
I've had a Starla muffler hang funny like that. The left side also wanted to go in the middle slot on the hanger. People should test fit and be prepared to bend the hanger on the left side with some MAPP gas.
might can wrap the hanger with some type of rubber, so when it does hit the car the impact is cushioned....for a temporary fix while you hunt down what has the exhaust sitting crooked.
About the underside of the car.. I would mask of the engine and so on and sand/sandblast the rusty parts and then either spraypaint or some kind of underbody treatment. Though I don't know that getting it professionally done would cost, maybe it's worth it :)
Underbody treatment is not a DIY project. Reason is, most people just paint on some anti-rust agent. However, this will just make it rust faster, it is more important to get it very, *very* clean before. And underbody treatments also treat the hollow parts like beams and doors.
Bra video! Intressant!
Hey Jody! This is a friend´s garage that wasn't used for a few days, so I got the opportunity to borrow it for a bit :) It's used for enthusiast projects and such on his spare time.
Sorry man, life is taking it's toll. I hope to make a quick update vid to let you guys know what's up, but I have zero time to edit videos for some time ...
Yes, quite popular here, too, although the price here is 4-5x what you quoted. Do these places also do cleaning? In my opinion it is more important to clean very thoroughly before spraying oil, otherwise you'll just trap the dirt/salt with moisture next to the steel, and we all know the result.
Trionic Seven No cleaning. They said the product they put on neutralises the salt. Most people get it done during the fall when there's no salt on the roads. Usually the car is clean.
Alright Tronic, I would say do the underbody yourself! Unless you are stripped for time and have money in the bank! (Opposite of me). I would love to see a video of you doing this :)
That's the sad thing about winter cars in Sweden. Unless you buy a car from the north, where they don't use salt at all. Those are very sought-after here because of the general rust-freeness!
Yep, heard cars from Germany etc. are okay, mine has rust all around the sink holes, I would probably poke thru with my finger. So I guess its gonna be a beater.
Just use a big hammer to bend the hangers a little bit. you will face a problem only if welding seam is too rusty, if you have an access to semi-automatic welding machine it can be fixed in 5 minutes.
Hi John I'm adding a Saab channel to my channels. We love are Saab's as a family so hope you like.not as good as you but we are very poor so everything is on a budget.saab on mike
Here in Canada the shop would wirebrush and then coat the underbody with a kind of sticky oil, all the way up to the motor mount tops - not sure why they don’t paint. Also if you want your top side paint to last here in the Land of Frozen Salt, a lot of folks would get some paint correction and then a ceramic coating.

Thanks for all the great videos! I am a new (old) Saab owner! Mine is pretty cherry but still has 250,000 miles so I need all the DIY I can get

Dude, where are you?
The rear muffler on my 9-5 MY07 is also getting quite crusty, but I guess it's not leaking yet since the car passed inspection last week :)
Yep, the muffler is quite sturdy as it is a two-ply construction :)
I can't tell about the rest of your exhaust, but the muffler looks like it's nearing the end of its service life. Just replace the muffler with a smaller one that doesn't bump no matter how much the exhaust moves :) Man, that stock muffler is gigantic!
That's probably what I'll have to do in the future. :)
" Now just remove the rubber" that's what she said, LOL LOL, Jono has a sense of humor,
Have the same problem with the exhaust back box outer shell rotting away but it has been like that for a long time on my 06 saab Linear Sport. Didn't give any problems yet. Touch wood !!!
It's a double layer, so it'll work for the time being :)

I'm thinking of that, too.

How much they ask for Krown treatment in Sweden? Here in Estonia it's around 170€.
Krown treatment? I assume you mean underbody treatment, and I'd guess €500-600.
www.krown.ee/eng/. It's quite popular in Estonia.

You should be checking your all your ball joints. Since the only right way to check for free play is to have both sides off the ground
Already done! Tight and nice ;)
Hey Trionic this Tyrone. Is the lift your using here in your home garage or is this a up and coming starter mechanic shop being built?
Hey Jody!

Where are you Johnathan miss you bro

Trionic Seven aw man sorry to hear hope everything is fine
I recently had my saab oil sprayed for 130$. I wonder if this service is available in Sweden. It's very popular in Canada and some people swear by it.

Why not install catback exhaust?
No need for now, exhaust is fine, and cat-back costs $$$.

I'll say it right away: it won't be a DIY project. Underbody treatment will be given away to pros :)
Thanks for the reply buddy! Enjoy watching your videos, I am also a Saab owner who has had a 93 for 14 years!
That's awesome! Thanks for stopping by :)
HI,did you find out what was wrong with the exhaust?
Ive got my 2000 9-5 Aero from Sweden and its rusty as hell.. I would gladly get rid of it but Ive got way too much money in it..

What's the part number for the clips?
Sorry, I forgot to put it in the description, will do it now. No. 92152112.
Thanks
Jag låter en bekant behandla mina bilar med linolja vartannat år, många gånger billigare än när en firma ska använda tectyl eller liknande.
Så länge som du får helt rent innan så är det bra. Våra bilar blir väldigt smutsiga under.
its not to late, never, use ice blasting
When is a new Video coming?
Many weeks, unfortunately. Sometimes, life happens!
" Then I'll raise you like a phoenix "
Awesome
Lite provisoriskt skulle man ju kunna trä på lite gummi på hängaren just där den slår i, så blir det i alla fall inte ett klonkande ljud.
Jag funderar på det med. Tack för kommentaren :)

I'm thinking of maybe bending them a little with heat. Perhaps go to an exhaust shop and have them help me bend it slightly :)
i has bent mine without any heating, just brutal force :)
The only way!

Hey, we all learn!
Felaktigt installerat.
Snett. 🤓
What is installed incorrectly?
hej när ska du lägga up mer videos får panik....
Panik? För att en kille som lägger upp filmer på sin fritid har mycket annat att tänka på?
Underbody, just wirebrush and paint the bottom.
Thanks!
