00:56 you can buy battery powered impact guns, but a good one will cost you about $250-400+ like the Milwaukee M18 Fuel being one i used and liked. Although i use a pneumatic blue-point at home I was very surprised how powerful the battery power impact guns have gotten in the last few years, 2-3 years ago you couldn't find a replacement for a proper air powered impact 1/2" wrench. Now you can get shockingly close to a decent air powered gun.
the direction 1000% matters. it pushes gases and dirt between the pad and rotor surface using centrifugal force. if you look at the fins inside of the rotor they are also directional. look at pictures of any new cars with cross drilled or slotted rotors the fins, slots or cross drilling will always curve to the rear of the vehicle if looking at the top side of the rotor. the air has mass and when the wheel rotates it is forced out from the center of the hub.
Hi Jonathan I fitted my 314mm disks and calipers and hoses that i also bought from Bill @Saabits last month. I used the metal U shape clip that you removed to hold the plastic clip thing in place. Great video as ever ;)
That's awesome! I fitted these brakes back in November but the video just came out. For me the metal U-clip didn't stay put so I had to put cable ties on it.
Thank you! VERY precise and detailed instruction! You can really learn how to change discs and pads from it. Not necessarily bigger. With gratitude and best wishes and good luck, a fan and follower of SAAB from Poland
I´m sorry to disagree with you but the correct way to see if the slots are one way or another is seeing inside the ventilation part of the disc: if they are straight, there´s no diference... if hey are curved they are LH and RH. If you wish i´ll make a vídeo to explain this.... but you mounted them in the right way....
how did you manage the line no to be dripping alot of brake fluid ? When I tried to put new brake lines there was a huge puddle of brake fluid and got everything wet
All brake fluid drained out when I removed the caliper. You don't see it in the video, but the car stood overnight and dripped before I removed the hose altogether.
Hey, i know this might be a little late and a weird request, but do you think you could program in the open SID for me if I wired the p-bus plus and minus to the obd2? I live in Norway so hopefully not too far away. Plus it would be really cool to meet you! :D
Thanks for another super informative video. Sorry for slightly different tipic question for SAAB enthusiast. My key fob (just shell) is on last legs. I would like to buy replacement but not cheap plastic shell. Would love soft as oryginal. But can not find any. Any clues please?
Can you please do a video of how to parking brake hardware / shoe replacement? I can't remember how to put the part that connects to the hand brake cable together. And there's no TH-cam video or blog online that I can find. Not even a photo.
It's okay. No revolutionary change, but I'm satisfied. Before, the previous owner had put cheap pads on that squealed horribly, that's the #1 thing I like with these new brakes :)
With an adaptor the same calipers can be used with 345mm (TurboX brakes basically) on 1998-2002 95 and 93. (314 won't get clearance for the adaptor). But then you need to run 17" kr bigger wheels only.
Hi Jonathan, I believe that the bolts holding your struts to your hub carriers are the wrong way round. They should go from front to back with the nut towards the rear of the car. Nice video though.
Interesting observation, I've never touched the struts so it must be from some previous owner. However, I don't see any reason why the struts have been replaced so I'm quite confused about this.
Trionic Seven It could be that the springs have been replaced or the top bearings both of which require the strut to be removed from the car. I only observed this because I have recently replaced and upgraded my springs and shocks all round with Eibachs and Bilsteins. The workshop manual says to make sure the bolts go from front to back. The bolts are splined at the head end. Cheers.
Yes, you are correct. There are many things that warrants removing the strut, but nothing that I have seen. I have replaced front struts before so I am familiar with them. Thanks for your observation, it's great having people on TH-cam see things I missed :)
The important part with bigger brake disc's is getting the contact patch further out from the center. Torque is force times distance. Just in the same way a breaker bar works. It's much longer than the usual ratchet wrench, hence it's much stronger.
Pro-Tip; don't use an extension when you don't have to. Not only do you get torque loss but it increases the risk of breaking a bolt or rounding it out from getting a bad angle.
The 9000 has 108×4 lug pattern the Saab 9-3 9-5 has 5×110 and they have different bolt pattern on the rear of the hub for the callipers so no not without modifications. Alfa romeo 166 v6 has the same caliper bolt pattern and some volvos.
I think you can buy most Saab parts at either : eSaabparts.com or eEuroparts.com or GenuineSaab.com for all years of Saab 9-3 / 9-5 models as I did purchase many parts for my 2006 Saab 9-3 from them.
You could probably get away with just changing the hub to a -02 and onwards instead of sourcing a different caliper carrier that might not even be available.
It is 16" wheel and internal diameter is not what matters here. 95 has offset (ET) of the wheel 49, whereas ng93 with 314mm brakes has ET41. 17" wheels of ET49 will fit juuust 2 milimeters, but 16" will not. Luckily, Jonathan has 16" that are not original, probably are ET41 (or definitely smaller than 49) so they fit. 15" in any ET would not fit even on 308 original brakes.

Thanks! Yes, I've heard many good things about the electric guns. Maybe some day :)
The DeWalt impact is the best on on the market
@@TrionicSeven well. Bought a battery impact yet =)?

Hello, I am from Poland and I am a big fan of your channel.
Hi, great vid. are you going to post an update as to the performance of the new 314 mm brake upgrade?
This gets me excited to work on my car again.
Did the same conversion and the 9-5 bolts worked fine bottomed out
Thank you! VERY precise and detailed instruction! You can really learn how to change discs and pads from it. Not necessarily bigger. With gratitude and best wishes and good luck, a fan and follower of SAAB from Poland
finally a new video
I'm stoked!
Yay ! miss you T7 !
Thanks, nice to be back with a new video :)
Really fine information. Thank you so much!!
Thanks!
Try to squeeze the fingers of the bracket together where the brake line goes through with the big pliers to tighten up the mount
You could use a vernier to measure the hole's deep to use the proper bolts os add washers..
Lovely job 👍
Previous Bolt sizes on suspension parts are 18mm an 20mm
Top job buddy, awesome stoppers. :-)
Thanks! They're pretty good :)
What caliper brackets do I need for this? I want to do the 314mm gm Brembo setup but nobody mentions where they source the brackets

Yes, but I'm fairly certain that he meant only the slots on the outside, but it would be good to mention what you said.
Exactly, I only mentioned the slots. Good point about the internal vents though, I believe they are straight.
The slots "may" mirror the inside ventilation channels. If your´s are straight (inside) that´s all good

Thanks for another super informative video.

Saab/GM dealers can usually get that stuff for you!
Can you please do a video of how to parking brake hardware / shoe replacement? I can't remember how to put the part that connects to the hand brake cable together. And there's no TH-cam video or blog online that I can find. Not even a photo.
It's actually on the way!

btw how are the new brakes under heavy braking ? is it much of a difference compared to 308mm?
It's okay. No revolutionary change, but I'm satisfied. Before, the previous owner had put cheap pads on that squealed horribly, that's the #1 thing I like with these new brakes :)
Im puting my 345 4pot soon, I'll let you know if there's a big difference :)
Now we're talking :)

Wow, at 2.35 you were like The Flash, or Superman.
Pro-Tip; don't use an extension when you don't have to. Not only do you get torque loss but it increases the risk of breaking a bolt or rounding it out from getting a bad angle.
Yes, you are correct. The E20 bolts were hard to get to and I had no choice.
could I do this same upgrade on a 2005 9-5 Arc?
Yes!
Number two on the way yet?
Number two of what? :)
used JB weld
can I put Saab 9-3 aero brakes in a Saab 9000?
No idea, but I don't think so.
The 9000 has 108×4 lug pattern the Saab 9-3 9-5 has 5×110 and they have different bolt pattern on the rear of the hub for the callipers so no not without modifications. Alfa romeo 166 v6 has the same caliper bolt pattern and some volvos.
Peter Hermansson same like 9k or 93 ?
sasa zaric same as the 9000
Peter Hermansson same fore 280mm disc or 300 + mm
Hi were the 314mm a lot better than the 308mm?
I love them! Yes, with a bit of heat they grip very very well
Nice video man can i order these parts in america?
I think so! Check the part numbers that I linked to :)
do more programs about 9-5 biopower 2006
That's my ambition! Thanks for commenting :)

Correct!
You could probably get away with just changing the hub to a -02 and onwards instead of sourcing a different caliper carrier that might not even be available.
That's a great suggestion!
Is it even possible to replace just a hub and nothing else? I mean, suspension and all stuff around will still fit?
What is the internal diameter of your winter wheels?
Don't know, didn't measure.
It is 16" wheel and internal diameter is not what matters here. 95 has offset (ET) of the wheel 49, whereas ng93 with 314mm brakes has ET41. 17" wheels of ET49 will fit juuust 2 milimeters, but 16" will not. YOU HAVE A CALM VOICE...OJ DU ÄR NOG SVENSK MEN JA...
Yep, jag är svensk ;)
Damn you think waiting 2 months to get a new video might be stretching it!
Where have I promised a specific schedule?
I don’t like Saab stock brakes, especially when I compare to Volvo’s
