Just found your channel a week or so ago man and it’s been some awesome quality stuff, makes me wanna spend time in a kayak more than the bass boat. You’ve got some awesome tips and tricks that I’ve noticed helps you be more productive, like the heat shrink on the worm in this video. Another trick I’ve found to drive the smallies up in Canada absolutely crazy is a weightless Texas rigged senko.. typically helps the bait last longer and if you fish it like a fluke with constant twitches and short pauses, sometimes helps get those fish to go crazy when they don’t want the topwater bait as much. Good luck and keep up the awesome content!
Great videos! I just found your site, and I'm totally impressed. Had to subscribe!!! I recently got back into wading for smallies here in Indiana with my son, forgot how much fun it is. Your casting skills are Impressive and your tech tips are a great help too. I know I'm not the only one who would love to spend a day on the water with you!!! Keep up the good work, looking forward to more great smallie videos from you.
Love the videos man! I mainly fish lakes up in North Texas and the wacky rig around boat docks and standing timber is hard to beat especially when the bite is tough. Great tip on the heat shrink as well I’m going to have to try that! 👍
I’ve been enjoying your videos with my five-year-old son. We live just off a river with lots of different species including smallmouth bass, carp, catfish and Pike. He loves the videos and now refers to bass he’s caught as ‘smallies’😂
😆😆😆😆you are so funny. Make me laugh so much. You took the food from fish mouth and check What's that, then return to the fish. With your words is so funny. Love you
Whether you like fishing or not, there's something magical about a cool clear stone bottom creek that revives a person's soul. That pool at the beginning of the vid was incredible. Great videos brother...I'm going to employ a few of your strategies on my smallmouth streams around here this summer. Keep up the great work. BTW, the wading videos are fantastic because I spend a lot of time wet wading on my local waters and I can really relate to them.
Your fishing videos are very addictive! They keep you watching until the end. I see you use heat shrink to hold your hooks . I use small size split rings
Yes I had been looking for them myself and my TW order just came in with tubes n pliers. I cant wait to try it. Yes, I also was looking for just the tube and didnt have any luck. I will try neko pretty soon and maybe do a video.
HEY BRO, ANOTHER GREAT VID. LOOKS LIKE THE SMALLIES ARE CHOWIN DOWN ON SILVER LAMPREYS. THEIR QUITE COMMON IN THE RAINY RIVER AND FEEDER STREAMS. BIG TOM
3/8 heat shrink. definitely gonna use that on the OT co. tour this june , boats not kayaks but we have fun, people at the Otail make fun of us on meat raffle night , we just fish bass
Thanks! I’ve been lucky to have a job the past several years where I could get out and fish a couple days during the week. It’s usually pretty quiet out there on weekdays. Kayak fishing is gaining popularity though and people are starting to find the spots I fish through these videos even without me naming the river so many times the last year or two I’d run into several other kayak fishermen on weekends. A lot of the stretches I fish can’t be accessed with a motor boat at least. I don’t know why it is but any time I’d catch a fish within sight of someone in a bass boat they’d feel it’s necessary to gun it and cut 50yds in front of me as I’m working my way upstream. All the kayakers I’ve run into have been pretty cool and we’ll usually talk fishing for a while we catch a few.
Congrats! I’m still waiting for it to warm up enough for them to start getting active around here. I’m hoping to hook into some in the next couple weeks.
As fat as that fish was I’m pretty sure it had a few more worms in its belly! I hooked into a nice bass early last summer, it jumped and shook my hook and when I reeled in I had about a 6” half digested pike on my wacky worm hook! Must have been sticking out of its throat but it was hooked almost like I was using it for bait lol.
NDYakAngler looooooool that's the kind of things you don't see when you stay at home, as Leo from @extremephillyfishing likes to say! Even better than getting the big Bass!
It’s starting to look like that might happen. The river is already open in spots though so at least I know I’ll be getting out the kayak and not the ice shack.
Is this like the most premium river in the world or what?! I always thought that my river, the South Umpqua in Oregon was hot shit but you're making it look like total crap... lol.
Thanks Matt, excellent footage as always. What's your technique for getting heat-shrink tubing secured on to stick worms? It's always seemed (to me) like a lot of effort for minimal added benefit vs. just slipping on an o-ring.
I have a brass rod that’s the perfect size to shrink the heat shrink to. I’ll take about a 6” chunk of heat shrink, spray a squirt or two of Yum sauce on the rod and shrink the tube to it then snip it into pieces. Slip it on the worm and maybe add a drop of superglue and it will catch fish all day. The benefit of heat shrink compared to o rings is the ability to have the hook perpendicular to the worm=better hookup ratio.
Dam bro I luv doing that but my smallies ain’t that big or that plentiful I walk the waters I fish catch some nice small mouth but not like the ones u catch I would luv to fish that creek but u call it a river it’s the size of my creek. Good job my fellow bass catcher.
How did you rig that....just put the hook through the middle of the worm? Anything else special about the rig? Thanks for your videos...they are SO enjoyable and inspiring!
ok after watchig ur vids i decided to hit my river on sunday i got hio hopes for the loon plopper and for my wacky worms and ned rig robo arsenal and maybe some keitech swimbaits in bluegill best all around lure i threw was a bluefox inline size 3 and 4 in white hackle .yellow too
Either someone was raised by small mouth bass and thumbs down the video because his brethren were being caught left and right or there finger slipped hitting the thumbs up button and thumbs down instead?
You can shrink it directly on the worm if you’re careful. I used to do it that way, now I use a 11/32” OD brass tube. Put a spray of greasy fish attractant on it for lubricant, stick a 6” piece of heat shrink on it, heat it, remove it, snip it, and stick it on the worm.
Great videos. May be an obvious question, but does the thin wire hook prevent you from getting caught up on grass, wood, etc.? I wacky rig with o rings and octo circle hooks with some success on the Potomac. But once the grass and algae really kick in, it becomes too much of a nuisance.
You probably won’t catch fewer weeds with the thin gauge hook. For me it’s about better hook penetration with the 10lb mono I use. If I used one of the thicker superline hooks I’d have a tough time getting a good hookset.
I know they make wacky worm hooks with a weed guard. Never tried them myself. I’ve heard of people Texas rigging senkos and throwing them weightless too. That would probably be your best option in grass and algae.
You know what would be great .... get someone to fly a drone over where the bait hits the water and follow the lure with close ups!!!!! That’s a million dollar idea 💡
Do you always use a red colored 3/0 work hook? I had a buddy of mine tell me to go with a 1/0 J hook because the smaller the presentation the less apt to spook the fish..
I use a 1/0 EWG hook. It’s always worked great for me so I’ve stuck with it over the years. To me the bend of that hook in red color looks a lot like a blood trail in the water.
i know this video is old but in case you read this comment: what baits/techniques do you use when water level in high and river is moving very swiftly. thanks. brad
I’ll mostly throw topwater into any slack spots. Topwater is less likely to snag up and be a pain to retrieve in fast current and if the water is also muddy a noisy lure on top will get their attention. If they aren’t hitting the surface I almost always throw a jig in faster water. I’ve also done well throwing a blade bait like the cicada in high water, ripping it along flooded grass lines.
@@ndyakangler Thanks for taking the time and energy to reply. I appreciate it. I fish the Susquehanna above West Pittston and have struggled these past two seasons with really high water levels, so I truly appreciate your advice. Brad
I bought YUM MONEY WORMS,BASS ASSASSIN PADDLE TAILS AND WHOPPER PLOPPERS (90),ALONG WITH WILLOW BLADE GOLD IN 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinner baits....I WAS GONNA FISH THE BIG FORK IN MINNESOTA....WILL I CATCH SMALLIES ????
What was that lure you were using called? I wanna try it here in Iowa? Any advice places bass like to hide? Also what’s the difference between regular power pro and the super slick v2?
I was using a wacky rigged Yum Dinger. For river smallies I mostly look for shade along the bank or any kind of current break they can sit in. Super slick is much more smooth feeling that regular Power Pro braid. I’m not sure what the difference is between original Super Slick and V2, I’ve used them both and there’s nothing noticeably distinguishable between the two other than the colors they’re offered in.
NDYakAngler Awesome. Thanks for the quick response. I’ll have to switch one of my poles to a super slick. I got regular power pro on my bait caster and I don’t feel it flys very far. But I’m still not very great with it so that could be the reason.
i was looking up plastic helgies and found a company called case that has a very nice helgie real cheap, 2.50 a 5 pk so ten for 5 bucks. sounds good to me has great reviews also im gonna pick up a few strikeking bitsy jigs
Thanks! I use 3/8” clear heat shrink tube. You can shrink it right onto the worm if you’re careful but I found a 11/32” OD brass tube that’s the perfect size to shrink it to. I spray a squirt or two of Yum attractant on the rod, put about 6” of heat shrink on, hit it with the heat gun, let it cool a min or two then remove it and snip it into 1/4” pieces. I’ll usually add a drop of superglue once it’s right where I want it on the worm too. It saves time in the long run when you catch 10-20 fish per worm.
I get a much better hookup ratio rigged like that too, being able to run the hook through the heat shrink and have it perpendicular to the worm rather than parallel like it would be using an o-ring.
I’ve never caught a trout. The only trout waters we have close to me are a couple stocked lakes but I hear they don’t get very big in those. I might have to go give them a try this summer just so I can say I caught one.
It’s a micro Power Pole. I chopped a little bit off the pole part so 5.5’ is about as deep as I can grab the bottom with it but for shallow rivers like this it’s awesome!
I work my way upstream from the start, spend most of the day paddling up river then I have an easy paddle back to the launch with the current helping me back at the end of the day.
No fancy music, just plain sound of fishing, the sound of reeling and fish splashing. I'm gonna subscribe this channel!
Yes, definitely the Bob Ross of bass fishing!
Love me some of that “drag” sound.
pro tip: watch series on flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Jayson Riley Yup, been watching on flixzone for since november myself :D
Bob Ross bass’n 😂
Smallie king of TH-cam. Underrated channel
Facts king ✋😩
So jealous of these rivers you get to fish.. nice video man!
NDYakAngler: Catches my PB if it were a largemouth
Also him: “That’s a nice small fish”
9:34 That grass under the water is beautiful. I bet they love hiding under that grass and waiting. My new favorite fishing channel for sure.
Never thought of using clear heat shrink, nice idea. Definitely going to use that technique
This guy is a pure BEAST,the rivers he gets to fish at are just beautiful

Best smallie action on TH-cam. Your average size catch would get mounted where I fish in western PA.
I'm getting a power pole. Your videos are very good. Keep making them. See you next time.
lol, that smallie that was at the stump probably thought that senko was the god of all nightcrawlers.

Rick Stuckey *their stacked in there
Wallace Bell *they’re
Great video! Timely.... getting tired of cold.
Interesting setup using shrink wrap on the worm? Would love to see a video of how you did that.
They always put up such a good fight. Great vid!
If HE KEPT EVERY SMALLMOUTH HE CAUGHT....THIS GUY WOULD SERIOUSLY WRECK THE SMALLMOUTH POPULATION
You use the red hooks too, I see. You GO!
The best lunchbreak!
Another great vid, love those bronzies found my first of the year last week 💯🍻
Congrats! I’m still waiting for it to warm up enough for them to start getting active around here. I’m hoping to hook into some in the next couple weeks.

It’s starting to look like that might happen. The river is already open in spots though so at least I know I’ll be getting out the kayak and not the ice shack.
Watermelon seed yum dingers are my stickbait of choice down here in NC. They just seem to get bites in any water clarity in my experience.
Matt, Love your videos! Snowing this morning in Massachusetts, not sure when I will be able to get out! #whereisspring?
Thanks Tory! It’s the same thing here, still waiting for spring to arrive.
Got my limit in 45min yesterday with a simple wacky rig. Cooking them up right now!
I love your videos .
I always want to know how to rig wacky rig can u do a video about how to rig it pls😃😃
Do the bigger yum dingers just weed out smaller fish? I usually go with the 4”, should I bump it up
Wow you have beautiful waters to fish! 👍
Is this like the most premium river in the world or what?! I always thought that my river, the South Umpqua in Oregon was hot shit but you're making it look like total crap... lol.

amazing what you can catch in 2-4 ft deep creeks
I wish I knew wat river u fished man it's absolutely beautiful
Either someone was raised by small mouth bass and thumbs down the video because his brethren were being caught left and right or there finger slipped hitting the thumbs up button and thumbs down instead?
probably some city person that is against hunting and fishing.
Still the best you tuber!! Thanks for the video. Bout time here to be out on the regular. Are you using the same set up this year?
Thanks Joe! I still have the kayak set up the same as last year.
getting 6" of snow today , this vid is just cruel , com'on spring
Thanks for the replied. How did you manage to get the shrink tube on without damaging the senko?
You can shrink it directly on the worm if you’re careful. I used to do it that way, now I use a 11/32” OD brass tube. Put a spray of greasy fish attractant on it for lubricant, stick a 6” piece of heat shrink on it, heat it, remove it, snip it, and stick it on the worm.
What is this power pole you are using to stay put? I can see myself going down stream 1/4 mile per catch lol
It’s basically an electric stake out pole. Nice to have for shallow water fishing!
Spy baiting works great for smallies as well, try it out.
Great videos. May be an obvious question, but does the thin wire hook prevent you from getting caught up on grass, wood, etc.? I wacky rig with o rings and octo circle hooks with some success on the Potomac. But once the grass and algae really kick in, it becomes too much of a nuisance.

NDYakAngler Thanks. So is there any kind of set up you recommend that can make wacky worming weedless?
I know they make wacky worm hooks with a weed guard. Never tried them myself. I’ve heard of people Texas rigging senkos and throwing them weightless too. That would probably be your best option in grass and algae.
You know what would be great
.... get someone to fly a drone over where the bait hits the water and follow the lure with close ups!!!!!
That’s a million dollar idea 💡
Is that a 3 inch or larger Yum dinger you are using?
Is that an old Mitchell Spinning reel?
Do you always use a red colored 3/0 work hook?
I had a buddy of mine tell me to go with a 1/0 J hook because the smaller the presentation the less apt to spook the fish..
I use a 1/0 EWG hook. It’s always worked great for me so I’ve stuck with it over the years. To me the bend of that hook in red color looks a lot like a blood trail in the water.
@@ndyakangler thanks!

What is that remote thing you are clicking to keep you from drifting away? I didn’t catch the name of it.
It’s the remote to control the stake on my Power Pole micro anchor.
Cool. I’ll check into that. I’m gearing up trying to get used to fishing from a yak. Your vids are awesome!!
Awesome vids !! Quick question, what are you using to keep your worm ? I saw a clear tube. Thanks !!
Thanks! I use 3/8” clear heat shrink tube.
Another great video.
Where do you get the shrink tubing from?
I get it from either Amazon or Zoro.com. I like the 3m stuff.
NDYakAngler ok cool I look for them. What kind of reel is that in the video?
It’s an Abu Garcia Revo MGX.
Do you film every catch or just the good ones? About how many smallies do you get per trip?
I film most of the day, usually only the big ones make it to the video. I’d say 25-75 fish if I’m out all day.
That is absolutely insane. What a great fishery.
it seems like the wacky worm has no weight on it, how do you cast it so far ?
I fish it weightless but the worm itself has some decent weight to it so it casts pretty well.
i was looking up plastic helgies and found a company called case that has a very nice helgie real cheap, 2.50 a 5 pk so ten for 5 bucks. sounds good to me has great reviews also im gonna pick up a few strikeking bitsy jigs
What did you have wrapped around the wacky worm where you inserted the hook? Tape? Great vid as always really enjoy your channel

I get a much better hookup ratio rigged like that too, being able to run the hook through the heat shrink and have it perpendicular to the worm rather than parallel like it would be using an o-ring.
Good info. Thanks for sharing!
i may go nuts and get the pacman plopper but i have not caught a fish on my loon color yet balls!!
Matt- What is your "go to" hook (STYLE and SIZE) that you use when wacky rigging?
Thank You!
I use a 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook, the thin wire one not the super line one.
What size hook were you using for your wacky worm setup?
1/0 red Gamakatsu EWG
Have you tried a zip tie on the worm? Just wondering if that would work.
I’ve never tried it. I’m sure it would work though.
Do you go trout fishing? If so can you make a vid on it
I’ve never caught a trout. The only trout waters we have close to me are a couple stocked lakes but I hear they don’t get very big in those. I might have to go give them a try this summer just so I can say I caught one.
do u get alot of Rockbass when casting for Smallies?
Maybe a half dozen a year. There aren’t many of them in this river system.
What kind of anchor do you have? It looks legit!
It’s a micro Power Pole. I chopped a little bit off the pole part so 5.5’ is about as deep as I can grab the bottom with it but for shallow rivers like this it’s awesome!
NDYakAngler thanks! I might just have to install one on my kayak.
how do you kayak by yourself? are u able to paddle back to the truck?
I work my way upstream from the start, spend most of the day paddling up river then I have an easy paddle back to the launch with the current helping me back at the end of the day.
Dang bet you had some foot pedals lol
Is this in Canada you’re fishing at or U.S?
This was in the U.S. - Minnesota
What’s your fishing rod?
Whats that clear plastic around the worm ?
3/8” clear heat shrink tube.
