i just have a case with n57 oil consumption with like a liter every 1000km can see any leaks at all turbo and everything’s fine now i know whats the problem 240.000 km good video
These engines are generally very strong if maintained properly. My E61 525d LCI Touring from 2007 has now driven 436.000 km on same engine without renovation of any internal parts, besides cleaning the EGR and intake manifold a couple of times. Same timing-chain, turbo, automatic transmission, complete exhaust (only cleaned DPF once). Very little oil consumption. I have had the car for nearly 10 years now. After the first 230.000 km I started changing engine oil more frequent than recommended by BMW, around every 12.000 km. I have also performed oil and filter service (no full flush) on the transmission twice by now.
What problem could be with n47? On 400km trip it burns about 2l of oil , when driving short distances for about 3000km it wont burned noticeable amount of oil.
Hello! And Thanks for another super interesting video!! I love these type of contents!! So,if I understood properly the problem is the ring itself,or is it associated with bad maintainance? I have a 2007 e90,can it also happen with the M57TU2 oil rings? What about an oil engine flush with a good product, could it help in such cases? Greatings!!Keep up your great videos💪Cheers!
Yes,I understand! My M57TU2,I changed the valve seals and the oil comsumption really got better but stil burns about 1L every 3 to 5 thousand kms..Before the valve seals change it was burning almost 1 liter every 1 thousand! Thanks 🙏 and Best Regards!!!
How can i check if it’s the ring? I’ve got 35d n57, that started burning 1 liter on 1000 miles. Engine runs good, no leaks, but I’ve noticed slight drop in my mpg too.
oh right bmws seem to suffer with oil problems, my brother has a e90 that has a 2500 n52, that really burns oil probably rings too? oh, and how s the victory?! ;)
Thanks for sharing guys. Have a good one. Dutch regards, Nico.

Hi, I have M57 with 1 l to 1000 miles!!
@@petervoros8221 have u tried to change crank case breather valve ? on my m57 that help a lot
Има ли прилика със сегментите на М54, които бяха от 2 части и пропускаха масло
Does the iron block m57 272hp have this problem? I want to use it for nissan patrol
Does the same happen to n47 engines, because the are pretty much the same, just two more cilinders.
Nice video 👍
The piston rings are different there, I haven't seen an issue like this on the N47, but this doesn't mean is impossible I guess.
How much different are n47 an n57. Please make a video. I am now curious. @@crank3646

BMW E60/E61 doesn't have N57 it has only N47 which is the 520d. You should have M57, which rarely have a issue like this
@@crank3646Correct, it's the 3.0 liter diesel, M57
How do you clean theese? Do you have to remove the rings and scrape the carbon or just soak the pistons with the rings on it? Thanks!
I remove them and clean them in ultra sonic cleaner

What's the maximum piston ring gap??

Hello! Yes is because of the design of the piston rings. A have seen this on M57 also, but its more rarely. No engine flush will not help

Change the oil more often to unclog the rings. At what mileage do you change the motor oil?
Thanks for the awe video ❤❤

N52 has issues with piston rings from time to time also. Victory is 70% done hah
