I finally got that decocker spring reinstalled after trying the safety out. I think that might have been the most frustrating experience of my entire life. Thanks Sootch.
I was working that spring for 2 hours solid. Finally I figured that I can jam it up before the final click then turn it around to click it to the other side. I don’t know if anyone get what I’m saying 😅
Love your work and have relied on your info quite a bit. I have changed the decocker/manual safety a couple times to try different settings. Used your narrative quite a bit to help me out. I accidentally came across an easier way to fuss with the spring even tho I’m not mechanically inclined at all. Put the spring in first. Slide the left side lever first while putting the post thru the spring. Then, while turning the lever, catch the tip of the spring with the arm that is so frustrating to get around. Then line up the right side lever and slide it thru the hole while working the necessary levers and springs to get the two levers to click in place and then turn into its final position. I have no idea how I figured this out, but it saved tons of frustrating time trying to push the tip of the spring around that arm. Thx again for everything you do.
That was SO EASY!!! Thank you so much for showing how to do this, great camera angles and lighting!! Only took me like 5 minutes!! Anyone else reading this, if I can do it, you can too!!!
Thank you so very much, found that spring going back in was a little challenging to get it behind the cam once the decocker was fully in, so I recommend getting the spring lined up while still lining with both side of the decocker with them still pointed upwards.

There’s a trick to getting the spring in that makes it very easy. Install spring first in the hole. Then completely install decocker lever through spring but leave it in the upright position. Then just use the lever to rotate the spring forward which brings the arm into place!!
Great video. I knew the long end of the spring went into the roll pin but I didn't understand where to tuck the short end. Come to find out I had the spring in backwards. It was tough tucking the short end underneath the cam but I got it. Thanks again. Had the P-07 Duty years ago but I'd forgotten. I just picked up a new P-07 and it's good now. Mucho appreciato.
thanks a BUNCH for this video! I've been thinking about this pistol and wondered how easy it actually was to switch to the the manual safety! because a manual safety in the 1911 fore mat is all I've shot now for 50 yrs.
I just purchased this pistol yesterday and I just can't wait to get to the range. I wasn't sure which back strap I had installed, so I decided to remove it and sit beside the others for size comparison. My PO 7 did not have the lanyard at the bottom which made removal of the back straps a real chore when doing alone. With a little help from my son, It's all back together. I just watched this video and I'm not sure what to do, leave the decocker or swap it out for the safety. I've got a Tangfoglio TZ-75 Series 88 that my mother purchased for me back in the 80's. I love it, It's got a polygonal barrel and is super accurate. But being all metal with the full size model, it is way too large and heavy to be an EDC weapon. So this PO 7 is much lighter and almost feels like a compact. I wore it last night with an IWB leather holster. One thing I learned is that this pistol is not very heavy until it has the additional heft of 15 rounds in the magazine. Other than being used to the light weight of the Glock 43 that was my previous EDC, after about 15-20 minutes, I didn't notice the size or the weight anymore. I'm pretty sure I made a good purchase. The one thing that made my decision for me was that Jeff Cooper (Look him up) founded the American Pistol Institute, which later became the Gunsite Academy. He said the only semi automatic 9 mm he would carry would be the CZ-75. That did it for me. I'm really looking forward to breaking this thing in next Monday with at least a couple of hundred rounds downrange. Love your channel.
Thank you for this video. I looked at a few different ones before tackling the procedure. Your video really broke it down with closeups and audio tips.
@@hardcore4476 I prefer the safety better as a safety measure. I can't tell the difference in trigger when shooting. I'm not that experienced gunman though - so I guess that could be the reason. :)

Meanwhile it's just the ticket for me. I screwed up my trigger finger getting up close and personal with a table saw. Despite two surgeries the tendon for the tip of it couldn't be reattached and there is nerve damage in the finger. No matter how hard I try I do not have enough strength in the tip of the finger to activate any double action trigger but can handle about a 5 or 6 lb trigger pull. Having a pistol, such as this or any 911 style, in a cocked and locked condition is ideal for me. Oh, and yes, I've been practicing with my left hand also for the inevitable time when arthritis makes my right hand totally useless for even single action trigger pull.
There’s a trick to getting the spring in that makes it very easy. I literally just did mine in a matter of minutes!Install spring first in the hole. Then completely install decocker lever through spring but leave it in the upright position (so the arm is sitting over the spring that you usually have to bend down under tension) it won’t be snapped all the way together yet. Then just use the lever to rotate the spring forward which brings the whole thing into its proper position and then snap the decocker comdpletely together once it is in position.
Hey, sootch, I made a tool to make that last step of getting the spring arm under the cam easier. I took an old, small, flathead screwdriver & notched it with a file and it works great. Much easier and faster.
This video was extremely helpful, thanks. Also, When I first got my P-07 I was a bit concerned that the ejector had so much vertical play in it, never planned on replacing it since the gun performed flawlessly (don't fix it if it ain't broke) but it still kinda bothered me. Turns out CZ has a good reason for this design...to change out the safety..duh lol. Thanks again.
A note on the docket interfering with the trigger, while going the Cajun gun works route with this particular firearm I found while fitting the decocker that a bit of quick work with a file, very light sanding, and polishing makes the difference between the two systems unnoticeable
I bought the P-07 based on your recommendation. I tried to install the manual safety and it did not work, after looking at the parts list I noticed a small piece of plastic and spring that was not on my safety. I looked in the bag and found the piece of plastic bit no spring. I checked the unopened safety parts bag on a P-01 Omega I bought about about three months ago. Inside the bag was the safety lever, spring and piece of plastic that is part of the safety lever. Two brand new CZ's and parts not assembled or missing. Warranty department told me I have to send them both safeties for repairs at my expense. This is terrible Customer Service and Engineering. The piece of plastic that is spring tensioned is thinner than your fingernails. Customer Service representative told me this is common and people loose these parts regularly. I will not use the repaired safeties but sent them back to CZ because I paid for them and now shipping to repair them. I think the parts were just dropped in a bag thinking I would never install them. Two CZ's with defective manual safeties, what are the chances?
just looking at this video i can tell you that there is no spring on manual safety on this gun. the spring is for decocker and comes installed in the gun as default...
Asghaad if you disassembled the manual safety there is a small spring that was not assembled. I contacted CZ and they told me to send the manual safety back to them on my P-07 and Omega P-01 at my expense. I did it immediately and when I got back from the Post Office after sending both manual safeties back for repair, CZ Customer Service called me and told me they would send me the two manual safeties. I explained I had already sent my safeties back at my expense and he apologized for the problems I had and sent out the two safeties the same day. Asghaad if you would go back and read my post again you would read that the spring had come out of both manual safeties. What do you think places tension on the manual safety. I did not make this up, CZ is well aware of this problem and took care of it. Thanks for reading my post as it gives me a chance to explain the poor Customer Service I got from CZ initially. I own the CZ P-01, P-07, P-97. P-01 Omega, P-01 Compact and the latest on is the CZ Scorpion Carbine so I think I know something about CZ's. Thank you.
Thank you so much!!! I tried the safety, but for some reason I didn’t hear the “click” safety on/off sound.. even thou countless times trying to install… plus it made no sense the only way the safety works is in cocked and locked position so I quickly switch back to the decocker lol
I can't move the safety up or down after reinstalling . Any suggestions? Doing exactly what is in video. Put back the decocker with no problem but the safety is stuck
I always love your videos. I just got my CZP07 last night and I tested the trigger pole single action at 4 1/2 pounds so then I changed the D Cocker out and install the safety of the trigger pull is 5 pounds. I thought it was going to get lighter when I put in the safety. Do you have any experience with this?
Those of you with safeties, how do you like the lever? I'm a 1911 guy so I prefer safeties, but all of mine are extended so they're easy to "find" on the draw.
It's much easier to finesse the spring around the lever as you put it back into the frame rather than push the spring onto the lever after it is already locked into the other side.
"I'm using a pair of tweezers to get the spring..." "I'm using a pair of tweezers to..." "I'm using a pair of needle-nose pliers to reinstall the spring."
Near the beginning of the video you eluded to the de-cocker interfering with the trigger and at the end you measured the different pull weights with and without the de-cocker. Is the the only difference or are there other downsides to running this gun with the de-cocker?
Awesome video as always Don! I have a late 2013 P07 Duty, do you know if the newer variety differs much from the more recent productions other than the hammer, slide serations and interchangeable backstraps?
Thnx Soochy! I put the 2 mag extensions, the bigger back-strap and changed from decocker leaver to normal safety on my new P07 in about 5 mins total, thnx in part to you. Great little kit piece of kit, can't wait to shoot it for the first time tomorrow at the range. Is it gonna snap too hard like the Glock 19? I wanna find out so bad.
So I called folks at Cajun Gun Works to ask them how swapping the safety and decocking lever would lighten the trigger. They assured me that swapping out for the safety wouldn't make the trigger any lighter. Has this been you experience on different guns or just the one from the video?
Muy bueno el video lo unico que no se ve es cuando colocas el resorte ahi no queda claro como lo colocas porque el deod molesta, pero estaria bueno explicarlo quisas afuera para ver donde entran y como el resorte
Hey brother, I wanted to ask you if the safety is very positive? It sounds like it has a very positive on /off in your video, but I wanted to ask. I am wanting to buy one with the plan of carrying it cocked and locked and want a positive safety. Thanks for your time
Would have been a lot easier for you too put that spring in if you would have left your de cocker or saftey switches in the upward position put your spring behind the notch on the cam and then put them into the correct position. No screw driver needed.
Mine just won't come out. And yes, I pressed down the ejector. It releases and pops out about 1-2mm and then will go no further. It is brand new, so maybe stuff need to wear in a little, who knows. But everything I have seen looks like it should just pop out with a lettle gentle prying once yoy push down the ejector. 😢
that looked pretty easy but my CZ-P09 came with the safety installed I may just leave it? I'm not a fan of safety's but I don't want to wrestle with that little spring
it is a beautiful weapon. been planning to buy this, or 75 sp01 any recommendations? and secondly, please tell me, if you don't have the decocker installed, can you still decock it manually?? regards!
the whole decocker setup with the weird lose spring seems a bit questionable in terms of safety and reliability, but if you tell me that the gun is still running perfectly with the decocked setup then I am inclined to believe you
Got a CZp09 for Christmas when I got a chance to really look at it I noticed it was a safety instead of declocker. I was under the impression all CZ p09 shipped with declocker pre installed. I called cabellas where it was purchased and they said it couldn't have been a returned because all sales are final. Changing back to a declocker is no big deal but it seems odd to me. Also while racking a magazine of ammo, about every three or four rounds would fail to feed(9mm). I think somehow I got a previously purchased gun. Any ideas?
All these years later, still a great and useful video! Can't thank you enough!

Thanks for this video! Helped me out a lot
Thanks sootch, your video was a big help. Thumbs-Up' my friend!!
Gotta love CZ.
Bardzo dobry film🍻👍
Thanks for your review
Thank You brother! Good stuff right there
It's much easier to finesse the spring around the lever as you put it back into the frame rather than push the spring onto the lever after it is already locked into the other side.
Thank you for this video.
Good video, thanks for posting it.
"I'm using a pair of tweezers to get the spring..."
"I'm using a pair of tweezers to..."
"I'm using a pair of needle-nose pliers to reinstall the spring."
Near the beginning of the video you eluded to the de-cocker interfering with the trigger and at the end you measured the different pull weights with and without the de-cocker. Is the the only difference or are there other downsides to running this gun with the de-cocker?
Excellent!
Awesome video as always Don!
I have a late 2013 P07 Duty, do you know if the newer variety differs much from the more recent productions other than the hammer, slide serations and interchangeable backstraps?
So glad I found this video...assuming it works the same on the P-01?
Everybody makes it look so easy and i can't get mine out for the life of me.
Muy bueno el video lo unico que no se ve es cuando colocas el resorte ahi no queda claro como lo colocas porque el deod molesta, pero estaria bueno explicarlo quisas afuera para ver donde entran y como el resorte
thanks so much for the video.
Thank you so much!!!
I tried it. When I had put it back together I had a second small spring laying on the table.
I have the same problem. The spring just kinda roled out and i don't know where to put it back... what did you do?
it is a beautiful weapon. been planning to buy this, or 75 sp01 any recommendations? and secondly, please tell me, if you don't have the decocker installed, can you still decock it manually?? regards!
No , that's why they give you the decocker int he box.
So... if you were to forget to install the decocker spring, would it function as a safety/decocker (like a Beretta)?
How does the decocker effect the trigger. Iam thinking about getting one of these pistols
the whole decocker setup with the weird lose spring seems a bit questionable in terms of safety and reliability, but if you tell me that the gun is still running perfectly with the decocked setup then I am inclined to believe you
Got a CZp09 for Christmas when I got a chance to really look at it I noticed it was a safety instead of declocker. Any ideas?
When switched from Decocker mode
to SAFETY mode will the pistol still be “DROP SAFE” ?
