The first two albums have been my favorite for over 15 years of listening to opeth now. The growling/screams are insane on this album. Its like he uses an inside voice when he growls but still kinda like a scream too.

I totally agree! Mikael’s vocals are so good harsh and clean. No band has really scratched the itch. Ne Obliviscaris and Anciients are close but nothing like opeth.

They performed this live many years later as part of "The Roundhouse Tapes" which is probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen, and I wish more folks reacted to those versions! In this case, since this track is quite old, I'd honestly say the Roundhouse Tapes live version is so much better!

Aw yeah. That's the good stuff right there. This is the album where I found Opeth, and as such, is probably my favorite. There's nothing else like it in their catalog, and as far as I've come across, nothing like it really anywhere.
And you gotta do the live version of this track from the Roundhouse Tapes. It's Opeth at the top of their game, and they kill it. That build-up at the end is CRUSHINGLY heavy and I saw them a bunch of times on that touring cycle and it was overwhelming. I can't even really describe it...when they did that part, and parts of Blackwater Park on that tour...it felt like the earth was breaking apart and crumbling into itself or something. Fkn wild.
