It was a little weird at first, but I do like them better than regular diapers and the girls rarely got diaper rashes and they lasted longer than a regular diaper. I highly recommend
My six month old is cloth diapered and she has had maybe one or two rashes and they cleared up fast, too. I mostly use the pocket style and right now I like to padfold a flour sack towel and use that as my insert inside the pocket. I also use 5 layer charcoal bamboo, but am sometimes having leaks with those after doing research I wouldn't recommend 5 layer charcoal bamboo inserts and instead would recommend some sort of cotton to anyone new.

Woahhhh cloth diapers have come a long way since i used them in early 90s! Back then it was still only prefolds and diaper pins, and a basic plastic diaper cover. Needless to say it was not a very nice thing. The elastic on the cover was raw and irritated the skin, the plastic would get wet and sweaty and wear out, it was all big and bulky and generally gross. We had probably at least 40 prefolds, and at least a couple dozen plastic covers. There were also disposable "liners" you put in them that looked more like dryer sheets than anything else. And diaper pins...now that takes skill! Todays new parents would be horrified at the old cloth diapering.

Thank you so much for this video!! I'm currently 6 months pregnant and have been contemplating cloth diapering! This was so simple to follow and seems attainable now!
I'm looking into cloth diapers for my granddaughter. I used them with my daughter but things have changed. Diapers are pretty sold out everywhere because of the Coronavirus, so I'm going to go back to cloth diapers for my house and save the disposable diapers at my house for my daughter's house.
My personal preference/favourite are diaper covers with a bamboo insert that I fold in a "receiving blanket" type of prefold. Works amazing for my chunky heavy wetter during those nap times or nighttime a when they tend to leak for us with the pocket diapers during those sleep times. (Just what worked for my specific baby) :)
I cloth diapered my daughter from the day we got home from the hospital until she started potty training. So a little over 2 years. I loved it and my favorite thing right now is that my daughter is using her newborn cloth to diaper her dolls!
I highly recommend a few more than this we go through about 8-10 a day with my 5 month old! We have built a stash of about 50! We love anmababy, alvababy, and babygoal! All are identical! Also formula poop is NOT water soluble sadly.
@@Gemness yes I formula feed my daughter! Only exclusively breastfed poop is water soluble the minute they consume formula purées or regular food it is no long water soluble.
@@Gemness I wash off all the solids and ring them out and throw them in the wet bag to be washed later it’s tough In the beginning but it’s so so rewarding! Once you get a routine down it’s smooth sailing from there!
@@mommyoftwo8279 thank you for the feedback! I was wondering how would it be done with different types of BM and how it would be washed and cleaned. Still a little confused but I have time to research 😅
I clothed with my first, ten years ago. She was born 16 weeks early and her skin was so sensitive, any disposable I tried on her skin immediately rashed. I loved cloth diapering. It took some getting used to at first but was well worth it and was easy to get into a routine with them. I used all kinds of different brands. I loved them all. They are so soft and cute. My daughter loved them as well. 😊
Thankyou sooo much for this video. I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and getting organised and we want to cloth as much as possible. This has been soo helpful x
I've been cloth diapering for about 3 and a half months, I mostly love it. I mean it is added laundry, so the laundry can be a little much at times but overall I like it. I watch everyones videos to see about other brands and inserts and see if I might pick up some new info. I have a pretty varied collection so far. I mostly use pockets. I've ordered some Texas Tushies covers to try but they were on pre-order I got one in a Halloween print and one in a Christmas print to try. They haven't arrived yet, though. I've never tried Green Mountain Diapers, yet.
@@laurenmaher127 I feel the same about electricity bill as well but we will be saving money by not buying disposable ones so it could work out the same or cheaper, especially if you will cloth diaper more kiddies 😊
I can remember my mom telling me when my siblings and I were babies she used cloth diapers on us the cloth diapers have come a long way since when I was a baby.. a lot easier to use now.
Hi Kelly thank you for the cloth diaper training video. My son and daughter-in-law expecting baby boy in April and she has stocked up on cloth diapers. Back in my day LOL I use cloth diapers on my kids too cuz my first son had reactions to disposable diapers back then and those days they put a stent in it and I think that's what Prodigy skin. Being the fact that all the shelves in stores have no cloth diapers call Stivers at the best way to go. It'll take me a couple times practice. Back in the olden days we had to use pins which I hated. So one side Master this when I babysit I will be fully knowledge on today's modern day diapers LOL thank you so much for sharing this it was perfect timing I sure will be here around April 11th but I'm his dad's birthday if we're lucky LOL have a blessed day.
I loved used cloth for my son!! I definitely saved money in the long run. I kept his diapers just in case if we have a 2nd and gave some away! I enjoyed the kawaii brand (i think thats what they were called)
Girl, I was so overwhelmed when I first started. I had tons and tons of inserts, prefolds, AIOs, just everything! I bought SO much, it was unnecessary, I gave half of them to my cousins when their baby was born, and still have so many. I made the mistake of buying newborn diapers, which I would recommend a few of them if you can afford them, just because babies are so small at first and in my experience, the diapers swimmed on her the first month or so, but they aren't necessary if you have a bigger baby!
I am planning to cloth diaper mainly because of environmental reasons. I don’t want my babies to grow up to inherit a world that we have ruined with trash and pollution. I know I can’t solve the problem by myself, but I can do my best with what I can control, and this is one of those things!
I appreciate this video! I've always been very curious about cloth diapering to reduce disposable diaper consumption, and your video helped me see that this is totally doable!
Love all of this info. My youngest is 14mo and I am just now switching to cloth. I do plan to use Melapower detergent for my cloth diapers as it's biodegradable & non toxic.
i have a little one due in 6 months and i’ve been trying to get my boyfriend on board with these cloth diapers and you explained everything so good that now he’s completely on board with this video, thankyou so much for all of your help 😂💘💘
When he sees how much money you guys aren’t spending on disposables you both won’t look back regardless of the tasks involved .....nothing all that bad that you don’t deal with disposables anyways!
I’m an old momma and now grandma and my niece is talking about cloth as soon as she gets a washer so I was curious if I could find a video for her. Yes cloth diapers have always been expensive to obtain but they are an investment but there is something no one told me about in my younger years that I wish I had known….just go thrift shopping and buy a bunch of old t-shirts to fold into diapers. You won’t even need filler diapers but you will need rubber pants. Like if I had it to do again I promise you I would save myself a lot more money by investing $0.25 each for a bunch of old t-shirts. And I line dry to this day so I would just hang them straight up onto hangers, wet and allow 4 inches between shirts to air dry.
When I first was looking up cloth diaper there was at least 5 different kind I have purchased the pocket cloth diaper that have the snaps. I luv them my toddler like them as an.
Thank you so much for this! I am about to have my second baby and am going to give cloth diapers another try. This is so helpful! Your baby is precious! 💕
Hi Kelly, just rewatching this because my husband and I are hoping for baby #3 soon and I am wanting to cloth diaper for the first time. I have some questions to clarify with you if you have the time. I am wondering, if I were to stick with the blueberry covers (since they seem to be the favourite?) with the cotton prefolds and the fleece liners, instead of trying out multiple brands, how many of each of those items would you recommend having on hand? Also, where there are so many sizes for cotton prefolds, and you said you'd like to have 24 of them, would you be getting 24 of each size as the baby grows? Lastly, I see that there's a newborn size and a one size blueberry diaper cover, would you recommend getting a certain amount of the newborn ones in the beginning as well? And then just using the cotton prefold the way you showed, with the snappy thing and a newborn cover over it? Would you still put the fleece liner into the cotton prefold that way? Thank you for taking the time to read! Love your videos 💗
Sure! So if you go with covers and prefolds, I would recommend having 4-6 on hand, however, I've heard other mamas say they are more comfortable having 6-8 on hand. It depends on your baby and how often they have a blowout lol. And yes, for the prefolds, you would size up and buy new ones as baby grows. To be honest, I think I only had to size up once or twice with my son. My daughter is now 9 months old and shes still wearing the same size that she was wearing at the time this video was made. She was about 4 months old. So I don't think you will be having to size up every month or anything crazy like that. As far as the newborn size covers go, you could buy them and get a better fit, but just keep in mind they are only that tiny for a short amount of time and probably wont wear those newborn covers for very long. The one size covers tend to be a little big on newborns but again the length of time they are that small is so short. So if it were me, I would save my money on the newborn covers and go straight to the one size. And yes, you always, always, wanna put a fleece liner down between their skin and the cotton prefold so that they don't get a rash :) I hope this helps you! Thank you for watching my videos!
I used to work the laundry Department in a nursing home, doing laundry isn't hard you just have to think about what type of material the fabric is made out of. You're obviously going to wash something with elastic different than something that is 100% cotton. You can absolutely deep clean microfiber to make it more absorbent you just have to remember to wash it separately because any type of lint is going to stick to microfiber.
I’m a new ftm and I’m starting to feel the pain of buying diapers. I’ve been buying bamboo diapers and wipes to minimize my effect of the planet. I wasn’t sure if I’d want to use clothes diapers as I thought it seemed dirty. But after this video I feel more comfortable with the process. The only problem is my washing machine is older and I feel like it can get my clothes dirty sometimes. But I’m trying to fix this by running bleach washes. Anyone have any good tips to cleaning an old washer? To get a more effective wash? For my baby shower my boyfriend mom got us 8 clothes diapers with 8 inserts! I’m not sure if they’re 100% cotton or something else. As there’s no tags so I’ll find out how absorbent they are!
When my mother had pre adopts we (never) would toss a bread bag. We used them when we were out to hold the soiled cloth diapers. Then we would rinse the poop out of them in the toilet at home. Yes! we did stick our hand in the toilet to rinse out the diapers out. Then wash our hands thoroughly with hot soapy water.
hint for others. dil sends me the ugly and tattered one. i have larger wounds on my legs from having had a skin graft after necrotizing fasciitis. they never really heal. i have hypersensitive skin. i can't have rubber, nylon, latex, plastic of any kind. so cotton is it. my surgeon is the one who told me to this. i use them like an abd(thick large bandage that are expensive). and a large recieving blanket as a wrap to hold the diaper bandages on and keep the ace wraps from touching my skin. plus they are so much cheaper than disposable bandages and i never run out. they can be disinfected and sanitized. ny wound care doctors and nurses have made the suggestions to other patients that are on long term wound care.. diabetics, amputees with prosthetics. ect. so many ppl have longer term wound care needs and these are great!!
have you done an updated video on how to wash cloth diapers once baby starts eating solids? i’m getting a toilet sprayer to help with this but i’m not sure if you do that at ea diaper change or when the load is ready to be washed. any input would be greatly appreciated!!
This helped me so much. I plan on using these and some bamboo diapers as needed. I also got some hemp inserts for nighttime but really your video is so great! Thank you for sharing your information. The covers are better than the pocket diapers in terms of washing because you can change the insert a few times if there isn't a blowout.
Thank you so much for this fantastic comprehensive tutorial on how-to-start cloth diapering. I really appreciate that the Blueberry covers are adjustable, so you only need one size. I was wondering if you can get away with one size on the prefold diaper inserts (Clothies), or do you need to buy new ones as your child grows? If you need more than one size, my follow-up question is, how few sizes can you get away with?
Is there any added odor to other clothing washed in your machine in later loads? Do you run an empty sanitizing load before washing things like towels, your own clothing, bedding, etc?
I do the exact same pretty much. I like & use the Thirsties duo wrap size 1 covers exclusively for the newborn-4 month stage but my favorite covers for one size are definitely Blueberry! And having already cloth diapered one baby from birth to potty training I can say that the Blueberry covers stand the test of time so are definitely worth the investment and feel confident recommending them to new cloth diapering parents. They are such superior quality to all the covers I have tried. I am buying only Thirsties size 1 & Blueberry one size covers for this next baby. I'm 16 weeks pregnant with #2. I had to toss all the Flip covers I had bought & used with my son. I also use one size pocket diapers but just for night time & long car rides. I stuff my covers & pockets with flats (I tossed our old microfiber inserts in the trash but will try to just give the new ones we get away). When my son outgrew the small prefolds last time I switched to flats exclusively and love them now. I probably will be buying GMD newborn & small prefolds for baby #2 though so I don't have to mess with folding flats the first few months. All the cheap flats we used before ended up as house rags. I use nothing but flats (& flannel receiving blankets) as inserts after the infant stage though, basically as soon as I can just pad fold flats and lay them in covers.
I am expecting my third in February. And with my other two I used disposable and it was expensive. I am going to try cloth diapers with this baby because of cost and I live in Arizona and it gets HOT and you get sweaty easily. So I am hoping these help with rashes.
How did you deal with family members I'm planning on getting pregnant the end of this year and a friend on Facebook was getting rid of a big bundle of nappies newborn and the bigger ones along with a bucket and oils ect. And only wanted £90 for the lot my family found out and and my brother is very opinionated about how its disgusting and that someone else's kids will of used them and that it's basically abuse, I've worked out if I have two kids like I plan to I will save around £990 just on nappies if they use them up till 2 years and when I said this he said I will give you £1000 for nappies if you don't do this its wrong, other than that I really like the idea of them and that they are better for baby and making less waste, but I've been feeling really down as other family members are agreeing with him and making comments about how I'm already parenting wring and I'm not even pregnant yet xx
When we use flour sack towels or pre-folds and when baby go to pee, each time do we need to change the cloth or is it going to absorb the pee and stays dry. After few hours we need to change the cloth when it gets wet?
someone who can sell me or donate cloth diapers please, I live in Mexico but they are very expensive here ☹️

I'm looking into cloth diapers for my granddaughter. I used them with my daughter but things have changed. Diapers are pretty sold out everywhere because of the Coronavirus, so I'm going to go back to cloth diapers for my house and save the disposable diapers at my house for my daughter's house.
This video was so informative. You made the process look so easy. I'm due in March. Now I feel so much better with my decision to cloth diaper.
How precious! I haven’t thought of that... guess little Ray will be using them for her babies too 🥰
@@KellysKorner08 she will be! It's so fun and it'll be good "big sister training" for my Laney one day(:
I highly recommend a few more than this we go through about 8-10 a day with my 5 month old! We have built a stash of about 50! We love anmababy, alvababy, and babygoal! All are identical! Also formula poop is NOT water soluble sadly.
How do you know that formula poop is not water soluble, is your baby a formula baby? I am considering cloth diapers and my baby is on formula
Wanted to add that baby girl is modeling those diapers so adorably. 🥰 She is so precious!
Girl thank you for posting this amazing video! It's so full of helpful information and I've learned so much from you!
🙏🏾 thank you so much!! I’m a newly licensed foster parent and really needed this information 😊 it was excellent!!
Thank you, you have made this look so much less intimidating than I was picturing in my head.
Thankyou sooo much for this video. I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and getting organised and we want to cloth as much as possible. This has been soo helpful x
You're the first one I've seen put them in the dryer and that makes me feel a bit better. I can hang dry or dryer when I really need them.
I've never tried Green Mountain Diapers, yet.
do you feel like it makes your water bill go up? that is my partners biggest concern with cloth diapering vs disposable
Excellent idea to do a rinse cycle first. It makes so much sense!
Do you use fabric softener? I assume it might affect the absorbency.
I don’t, it does affect the absorption. Thanks for watching!
Please update when you have the newer cloth diaper video!! I would love to hear about how you handle rinsing diapers!
Not sure if you've addressed this already, but formula-fed poopy diapers are water soluble.
Wonderful video!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for us!
Thank you for this video after 4 children I'm switching to cloth diapers for my little one due in January 2024.
I've watched more cloth diaper videos than I can count so I'm just here to look at your babies' beautiful faces.
I appreciate this video! I've always been very curious about cloth diapering to reduce disposable diaper consumption, and your video helped me see that this is totally doable!
How much money is saved on cloth diapers? Is it even practical for a busy family? Or more for stay at home moms
Some people do a some disposables and some reusables. The ratio is relevant to their needs
Very well done. I had no idea things had improved to this level. Thanks
Haha this is the perfect time to share this! Mamas all across the country are running out of disposable diapers and this will help them tremendously!
I love cloth diapers best decision I ever made my son loves them he hated disposable diapers plus these are cute
This literally helped as far as confirming taht i for sure wanna do cloth diapers!
Rubber pants?
When I first was looking up cloth diaper there was at least 5 different kind I have purchased the pocket cloth diaper that have the snaps. I luv them my toddler like them as an.
The fleece liner is a great tip! We always use homemade fleece liners for ours when we use prefolds and flats.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and give me so much info! That really cleared things up for me. I appreciate it 😊
I used to work the laundry Department in a nursing home, doing laundry isn't hard you just have to think about what type of material the fabric is made out of. You're obviously going to wash something with elastic different than something that is 100% cotton. You can absolutely deep clean microfiber to make it more absorbent you just have to remember to wash it separately because any type of lint is going to stick to microfiber.
I also cloth diaper! I love it. It helps save money and it's really not bad at all!
You covered EVERYTHING! Great video 1st time mom here 😊😊
Thanks for this video, real easy to follow and makes this decision feel easier
I cloth diaper during the day and use a disposable at night or when we are out of the house. I have 2 in diapers and save so much money like this!!!
She's adorable with that little patch of hair at the back of her neck👶
Great video! I’m just beginning my start with cloth diapers...thank you for this content!
Thank you so happy to learn about new ways for cloth diapering.
Very good video. It should help people who can’t get the disposables.
This made everything a lot easier to know what to get. Thanks for all the info!
I cloth diaper too and it’s helped so much during this time.
Superrrr helpful!! I’m so nervous but excited to begin the cloth journey!
Thank you so much for all of the information! I wanted to point out the diaper cream you suggested is petroleum based
When my mother had pre adopts we (never) would toss a bread bag.
I'm expecting my first baby in August and my cousin gifted us a small handful of cloth diapers. I want to try them out but didn't know where to start.
Cloth diapers have come a long way. I had no idea how they had changed. Very informative video. 🦋
Thanks for watching!
This helped me so much. I plan on using these and some bamboo diapers as needed. I also got some hemp inserts for nighttime but really your video is so great! Thank you for sharing your information. The covers are better than the pocket diapers in terms of washing because you can change the insert a few times if there isn't a blowout.
Glad it was helpful!
I want to see what it’s like to have to rinse the diapers! The rest seems easy, but I’m curious about that part now!
I would use a mesh bag for my eipes to keep from losing the wipes in the washer ?!
If you need more than one size, my follow-up question is, how few sizes can you get away with?
just now seeing this. do you know if its possible to use a small compact washer to clean them?
Is there any added odor to other clothing washed in your machine in later loads? Do you run an empty sanitizing load before washing things like towels, your own clothing, bedding, etc?
Super helpful video! I keep going back n forth about cloth diapering but this made it less intimidating. Thank you!
Do ittt.. you save about $2,000 in the long run :) per child!
Thank you for sharing! I'm expecting in December and needed this video!
Thank you so much!!! I think I’ll be doing cloth diapering thanks to your support!!
I asked for them on my baby registry definitely helped I didn’t have to buy any and I got 32 dippers
Thank you!! We are so pumped for this routine
The easiest video fir me to understand I’ve ever seen
Great video, very informative with tips like no petroleum on cloth!
Have u tried flour sack towels? They are good to use as flats and cheap and also they are less bulky then prefolds u can buy them at Walmart
Yes! I forgot to mention those in this video but I LOVE to use those too!
When we use flour sack towels or pre-folds and when baby go to pee, each time do we need to change the cloth or is it going to absorb the pee and stays dry. After few hours we need to change the cloth when it gets wet?
What a great and informative video. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
