If you don’t want to put up with having to rinse the poo off of the diaper/liner. You can get biodegradable/disposable bamboo liners that go over the cloth. It’s nice to be able to toss any solids in the trash and just clean the diaper in the wash. Less mess.
I’ll never understand this bc both my babies have runny breastmilk poops. Even when we started solids, it was a mixture of mushy wetness so it goes straight through. They make reusable stay dry liners that are a dark grey and I’d go with that tbh! Poop will always stay on just the liners and if they do start to stain, just buy more. They’re not super expensive.
I would just like to pop in and say THIS VIDEO is what really encouraged me to cloth diaper. I'm only a month in, with my first child but going strong. This community has been so great on TH-cam and Facebook! Thank you for this video!
We use prefolds and covers during the day and (super stuffed) pocket diapers at night. Been doing it for all 3 of my kids and this system really works for us! There are so many ways to do cloth diapers, I always encourage parents to give it a try, it's not as hard as it seems :)
I know this is an old comment, but I'm curious: how many pre-folds did you have (per kid)? That system sounds like a great system. From what I've seen it doesn't *look* that complicated as long as you get the routine down. There's so much laundry with a baby anyway
Love love love my Nora's Nursery pocket diapers! I actually just got a new package of them delivered while I was watching this video 😂. I'm still relatively new to cloth diapering, but one thing I'd say is I don't wash my inserts separately from the shell. I do separate for drying, I line dry the water proof part for longevity of the diaper and throw the inserts into the dryer. I don't have a convenient place to hang dry outside so I have a line rigged up in my laundry room and I put a fan on the diapers and they are completely dry in two hours. But again, my son is only three months old and we've only been cloth diapering for a few weeks now so do with that what you will.
Important ‼️ pocket diapers will usually come with microfiber inserts...these cannot be placed against baby's skin because it will severely dry them out, so make sure if you use a hybrid you dont purchase microfiber inserts
@@ASMRKay_ I have charcoal bamboo as well, we experimented with using these on the outside of the pocket against the skin and she would at times get rashes...but she still sometimes gets rashes without them so I can't say for sure if that was the problem. I do not have hemp but that is next on my list to try!
@@emilydrummond2495 the charcoal bamboo is just poor marketing and very misleading. In most cases it’s just grey fleece wrapped around microfiber. Watch Jaysnest for more info on this and quality experience when it comes to cloth diapers in general as well as Jess is Blessed both here on TH-cam
Not sure if you have already heard this tip, but if not here ya go…. When we were cloth diapering we would cut fleece into the the same size as the inserts and place then on top of the pocket or insert ( the fleece would sit against the baby’s bottom.) The fleece also wicks the moisture away from baby’s skin to help keep them more comfortable until they are changed. This would stop the poop from touching the insert or pocket or all in one material and thus eliminating your need to get water all over the place when your spraying your diapers clean. Simply remove the fleece, hold over the toilet, spray clean. Put everything into hamper/ wet bag for cleaning.
I hate all diapers so much, it's definitely our motivation to use Elimination Communication. Our oldest was potty trained by the time she could walk! It was just easier for me and also empowered our little one
I use Alvababy diapers for my little one. It's a pocket type that I'm using and they sell amazing bundles on their website. I chose the 50 diapers for $250. It was like $5 a diaper or something like that. I love them so much and they have adorable patterns. You can choose also the inserts you want to have as well (i.e. trifold if you have a big wetter, etc.).
We prefer covers with flats, prefolds, or fitteds! I like options that are easy to wash and dry. And wool covers are our absolute favorite, especially for a natural option. 💜 Heidi
I've been subscribed to you for about two years now I think, I love all the mom content and I just realized that this is your first video I am watching with my baby on the way. Time to watch all the videos again! So I guess watching your youtube counts as research time now and not only as entertainment :D It's still entertaining though!
I was just thinking the same thing! I stuck around for her personality but now I need to start taking notes for baby on the way. Good luck with your pregnancy momma!❤️
I use pockets and love them! So cheap on Amazon. And we just keep a spray bottle and flannel wipes to clean. If we needed to, we have disposable wipes we could use and throw in the trash. We also do disposables overnight. Thanks for being so thorough but also brief! You strike that balance very well! 😁
@@alexandralawson1728 just the inserts that come with the diapers on Amazon 🙂 some people like to have extra inserts if they want to “double up” for a heavy wetter. But so far we’ve not needed to do that. One insert in each diaper is fine throughout the day, being checked every 2-3 hours or more if needed. We bought from the brands “Amma baby” and “Alva baby” on Amazon.
Flats and fitted are my favorites! Easiest to wash, most cost effective to dry, and they fit both of my babies, my 10 month old and my 26 month old all fit the same diapers👌😊 we use pocket diapers for nighttime diapers because they feel drier for babes. So my kids stay asleep through the night because its more comfortable than a cotton diaper is when wet. Micro fleece pulls the wet away from babe!😊 we cloth diaper 24/7, weve even taken them on vacations with us, but it totally doesnt have to be! 80/20 works 10/90 works do what works for your family and dont stress about it😊 Awesome video, and a great one to send people who ask us about ours!
Thank you so much for the info! I was so lost… I went inside some websites and I saw “All in one” “pockets” and I was like “what is this!?!? 🥴” but your explanation helped me so much. 🙌🏻 thank you thank you 💕
Soon-to-be Dad here, also in MN and planning to use Do Good Diapers service to take care of the washing part, as I feel it'll just be more efficient than we would be as far as water use, not to mention time saved in the process. I'm so glad to have found your channel to get an overview of the different types of cloth diapers, as the service also offers options and I'm hoping to narrow it down before our little guy comes in November! THANK YOU for this video and for your content, which I will be combing through soon!
Great video! I use all of the styles you mentioned, lol, for different situations! I use pockets mainly at home. Then I use all in ones in the diaper bag or downstairs because it’s easier to just carry a bunch of all in ones downstairs instead of all of the stuffing options for pockets. There are so many options of inserts/prefolds /flats/boosters you can stuff into pockets, it’s both annoying and awesome. I started with cotton babies econobum shells and pad folded prefolds 14 years ago with my daughter! Some of those covers and prefolds are still usable after 7 kids, for my 5 month old! It is crazy! I also love love those flip diapers covers you mentioned. I used those mainly with my twins and you can pad fold and stuff basically anything in them too. The liners are eh, ok. Poo always leaked over the edges onto everything inside the diaper anyways (cover, insert, liner) so it’s just another thing to wash. But if your baby is sensitive to wetness, then cut up a fleece blanket into homemade liners and it works great to keep rashes away. Idk where I’m going with all of this but, I really enjoyed your description, thank you!
The flip cover is literally the same bumgenius diaper without the aio as it’s all owned by Cotton Babies. That’s why I use flip for over night and the same bumgenius aio “freestyle” during the day. I love the fit, I have about 70 😂 All bought second hand though.
I love prefolds with covers but I thought I'd love pockets but ended up hating them. Try other styles if its not working, you can sell them pretty easily too. Prefolds are so easy to clean and spray off.
I have both hibrids and pocket cloth diapers and I strongly recommend people to buy a couple of each before really starting to cloth diaper and then decide what works best for them.
We use Chuckles Prima 2.0 it's a pocket nappy with domes to snap the inserts onto the shell instead of stuffing if that's what you prefer but also has the pocket for stuffing. I absolutely love this brand and style of nappy and highly recommend to anyone looking into using cloth nappies 👍
I think for cloth diaper newbie’s, a flushable diaper liner is a good idea. You can put the thin liner over any diaper insert etc. and if the baby had a poo, you can just fold the liner up, around the poo and flush it. That’s even more convenient, than the stench of a trashcan of disposable diapers. And they literally are biodegradable and super affordable.
We use Grovia brand hybrids and love them. I feel like there is a lot less youtube content on hybrids, but they are awesome, so thanks for including them in the lineup even though you don't personally use them. You touched on one of the main perks which is: you really don't need very many. We have 4 covers and 12 inserts and that is enough to cover a full day for us most days! It's also a lot less laundry since most of the time only the inserts get soiled. Another option not shown here is wool covers. We have 2 Sloomb brand wool covers that we pair with snapless fitteds (using a safety pin for the ultimate retro look ha). They are SO DELUX. The covers do require more care and handwashing, but it is really not intimidating once you dive in.
Exactly what I was going to say Shannon :) We have about 5 hybrid covers and 20 liners. Huge advantage is that you can air dry the covers so they don’t damage in the dryer. We love the wool disana covers as well 💓
We cut up a fleece blanket to line the diaper with. Poop just falls off of the fleece liner to make for a super easy cleaning. You just cut a fleece blanket up to the size of your insert. Cotton, hemp and bamboo are the most absorbent. I did a microfibre diaper in the beginning, and my son would leak through it instantly since he is a heavy wetter. It really made me hate cloth diapering to begin with. I decided to give it another try right before his second birthday. I got a stash of used cotton (Mother-Ease) diaper. Game changer!!! Mother-Ease bedwetter pants, and overnight inserts are amazing if you ever want to try cloth overnight. The overnight diapers hold 500 ml (2 cups) and the bedwetter pants hold 600 ml (2 1/2 cups). We have never had a leak with the bedwetter pants!
Ok so for cleaning, i found an awesome method by scrubbing the poop off on the shower floor with a cleaning brush. Babes only 4months when i started so its still mush😅 but this method has helped with stains as opposed to just soaking them after spraying them off.
If you’re from Canada and can’t find the brands she mentions here, a couple Canadian brands that are awesome are AMP and la petite ourse. We use the pocket diapers and they are awesome.
Fellow Canadian here: Cutie Patootie FlexiNappies are also a great Canadian brand! They can be used as a pocket or hybrid/AI2 and they are lined with grey fleece (no stains!). Best part is the pocket opens on both ends which means no need to un-stuff before washing, the inserts can agitate out on their own.
We are currently using the Esembly system. My youngest is 6 months old now. My boys tend to be heavy wetters so we use two over night inserts, two liners and the Esembly fitted diaper with it’s cover. The system is great for clean up and as long as I put the whole thing together, so it can be grab and change like a disposable, even my husband can change diapers. I have yet to use the hemp or bamboo inserts for any of my kiddos (six in total) however I have read great reviews. We used prefolds with a fleece/pul cover for my second oldest daughter because she frequently got UTI’s. We have also use Pampers Hybrid diapers, but they have discontinued the disposable inserts. Charlie Banana makes disposable inserts that work with the Pampers Hybrid diaper. GroVia is another great brand that makes an All in One, Hybrid with disposable inserts/regular inserts and they have prefold cloth diapers as well. The disposable inserts for the GroVia diapers are also ASTM biodegradable.
I use prefolds with the plain covers. You have it right! We can also fold them into a pad and use the cloths to stuff in a pocket or like a pad shell. Very versatile. But I just do the OG method.
I have 7 kids, I've never tried cloth diapering before.......I'm now pregnant with my 8th baby, I have a stash ready, and I'm definitely going to try it with this new baby 👶🍼🧷
When I had my first baby 6 years ago I bought the best quality snap-in-one with bamboo. All solid colors. 20 in total. I am currently using the exact same diapers with baby #4. We also do EC which helps alot. My tip is to buy the best quality if you know you are going to have more than one child. Love from South Africa.
I love our applecheeks pocket diapers. Currently using them on our third child and also loaned them to a friend before my third was born. They have held up well. I don't put the insert in the pocket, I lay it on top and there are small elastics in the corners that I tuck the insert into. So easy, and I can dry the inserts with heat and put them out in the sun without damaging the elastics on the outer shell. Love that it is getting more popular ☺️
There is also the option of wool! A lot of people are intimidated by it because you have to hand wash *most* covers but you can’t go a couple weeks without washing so it really isn’t in work. You can also use wool pants over fitteds or prefolds just makes sure anything used to cover a diaper is lanolized which is very easy to do! It’s great for anyone looking to use all natural fibers.
Ohmygoodness, thank you Shayla! I needed this and you’re right about how it’s presented on the websites. I’m new to cloth diapering and I’m lost in all of it. But your videos are helping me!
We use Mama Koala brand pocket diapers. We have 94 diapers since they went on a massive sale and my husband got hooked on them after I said to give them a try. He was excited to surprise us with so many different patterns. But the nice thing is that this next baby can use them and then they are getting divided between 2 of my 3 SILs who want to cloth diaper. We have the microfiber inserts that came with them and then bought both bamboo charcoal inserts and hemp inserts to help at nighttime since he is a very heavy wetter. It took somewhere between 3.5-4 months old to get started when he was finally at 8lbs. He was a little over 4lbs when born at full term.
I was a pocket user but I've been getting into preflats with covers lately. I still use both but at night now I'm definitely grabbing a preflat with a booster and a cover. Usually lasts the full night depending on the brand I grab. Fluff and Stuff is great or B Kalm cloth for preflats! You'll find what u love after trying some. And you'll realize how easy it really is
I dont have kid but i watch this because i have a dog that has ivdd. He lost his bladder control. And diapers are expensive plus not environmental friendly. This video really clears up my confusion. Coz wheb i go online theres like dozen different types of diapers, insert. And they never show what is inside. Thanks so much!
For me, the only cloth diaper that makes any sense is the all in one. And I don’t see anyone bringing this up, but I prefer my diapers made in the USA or just anywhere that isn’t China. Did everyone forget the toy recall from years ago bc baby toys were poisoned with lead, made in China? It seems like everybody forgot. I don’t trust anything made there, especially not for babies and small children. It’s not always about price.
I know I'm coming in here 5 months later but the more you talked about the all in one's the more I absolutely hated and failed to see the perks lol. If anything it definitely helped me in wanting to stick with using pocket diapers so I appreciate that cause I only have experience with those.
I just found one of your old videos about Hypnobabies and your experience with it, as we speak, I am driving to Barnes and Noble to pick up Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (well not driving and typing more like typing this on my Mac, getting In N Out and then going to Barnes and Noble) for my wife. She's at 30 weeks right now and she has some fear about the process of labor. Thank you so much for all your reviews, from one TH-camr to another, keep up the good work! I subscribed and will be sharing your channel with her. Greetings from Long Beach 🌴
We have the Hybrid system from the beginning. 5 are more than enough! 🙂 It's the cheapest. The last ones you talked about are our night diapers with wool pants over it. Perfect never had an accident. Now we changed as well during the day to wool and only need 2 of the Hybrid diaper and we have around 40 inserts. Preefolds are as well amazing two fold into a hybrid! We wash all 3/4 days. There are fleece you can use on the top so if there is a poop accident you only throw it away.
okay so liners, there are multiple types bamboo disposable other disposable and fleece reusable / sposie bamboo an other are disposable ones that you put on the diaper then throw out at changes cons they move a lot and are pron to more leakage fleece ones, you buy one of the 3$ fleece blankets from Walmart and cut them into the size of an insert no sew needed! most people throw them out with poo but you could also spray it easier than regular inserts and reuse, you put them in the hamper every pee Change and reuse! cons, there are not many if anyone has some let me know pros, you save money, they dont slide as much so then the actually keep the poop in! all liners have the same basic usage they let pee flow through and the are supposed to hold pop on for easier disposal!
We use prefolds and covers, which I love. Additionally, my husband and I both work very full time jobs, so we have a diaper service, dydee diaper in Michigan. Seriously, all the bennies of cloth without having the diaper laundry. It's the only way we're still doing it at 2. We've used hardly any disposables up to this point because we have a service. It's all about the tradeoffs.
NORAS! 🙌🏼 Not saying they are the best, but man they have been so easy to navigate! Because the shells are so cute there are buy/sell/trade groups on FB marketplace for them haha! I’ve got 2 full sets used and they have held up so well! So I think as long as you take care of them they are well worth the money!
I just bought bumgenius AIOs from Facebook marketplace too. Waaay cheaper than buying new. We’re about10 weeks away from meeting baby boy! Super excited to cloth diaper when he gets a little chubby 😄💕
So, I've been using pockets more like a shell diaper and just realized. I only had 6 to start off with for the first three months of her life. So i had the microfiber liner on top and a thick insert, inside the pocket liner. As a newborn I would switch out the liner only if the insert felt dry. If her poops touched the pocket then I would change the whole thing out. I didn't notice any issues doing that and she has had no issues with microfiber touching her butt. But that's just my baby, every one's kid is different. Now that I have watched more videos and honestly, build a bigger stash, I and figuring out the best method with less padding. As she does more tummy time and trying to craw, the amount of padding wasn't allowing her to have the best rang of motion. Also, she is CHUNKY and Tall. she is in 1 year clothes. She is turning four months this week! Its the size of the diaper as well as her height. So let me make her diapers more trim and see if that helps.
This is sooooooo good! We used cloth diapers with our little ones too and there can be some massive differences between brands! Thanks so much for sharing :)
It's kinda funny how our diapering journey has evolved over 4 kids. We started with Green Mountain Diapers prefolds and Snappies and covers (if you do the "Jelly Roll" it's bomb proof!), then moved to pockets, then same for our 3rd except we started having a chronic rash issue and she's in disposables till things get sorted out. Now for our upcoming May baby we're thinking we may try All in One or All in Two diapers to satisfy that desire for convenience, with a disposable liner when they get to eating solids or need rash creams. And I have a friend pushing me to try EC. :)
Also I found with the prefold/cover combo it tended to be that the cover could get real stinky because I assume the gusset would start getting wet (either cause they peed a lot or you didn't change it soon enough or just cause) so we didn't often reuse the covers. But, the main thing there is that the prefolds are cheap and so are the covers, so it was really cost effective if you needed to get a few more.
Great overview! I have a mix of everything, including diff kinds of boosters (what you call liners). You can also use disposable or non disposable liners which can help with getting rid of the poop, you just rinse the liner instead of the whole nappy. My advice is to try a nappy library if you have one locally. They will loan you different kinds of nappies for you to try them without a huge money investment and then you can go ahead and buy the ones you like.
Somehow I didn’t realize there was a name for hybrid diapers 🙃. We use Best Bottom hybrids which have inserts that snap into the shells at each end and I love them! I feel like I never see anyone talk about them, so I always have to throw it out there lol. We probably only NEED like 6 or so shells for laundry every 3ish days, but they’re cute, so I have more. Also have a second baby now, so it’s useful.
I do this for my friends who are interested in cloth, it’s fun to see someone else do it! My favorite styles are flats and covers, you can add inserts/boosters/liners to them to make it more suited to your baby. My second favorite are pockets with flats as the insert 👌🏻 both are easy as pie just fold your flat into a rectangle and lay it or stuff it inside.
We use a variety of different styles. We use bum genius aio for daycare, thirsties pocket diapers overnight and prefolds and covers at home. Our LO is a heavy wetter so I like being able to customize the inserts for overnight and love the double gussets on the thirsties but like you said I don’t want to spend all my time stuffing diapers. The prefolds and covers were really nice when he was too tiny for the aio’s and are less laundry.
It's cool to hear someone else's opinions who uses different types of cloth diapers. BTW I had no idea there were so many types. I love that (don't have that OCD issue 😂). My process is pocket diapers most of the day, prefold with added insert in cover for nighttime. I love them!
If you fancied trying cloth overnight fitted nappies with a wrap is definitely the way to go. We're full time cloth unless we go away on holiday, I bought some disposables whilst we were away and I got sooo many poo leaks it was really annoying.
@@Southernsunsetters some nappies are in 2 parts. Fitted nappy is the absorbant bit that often poppers or velcros on, then you have the wrap to cover it which is the waterproof cover 🙂
This may be a stupid question, but could you use the Nora's Nursery diapers like the pink hybrid on this video during the day? So like put the liner on top of the the pocket instead of in the pocket? Then do two inserts in the pocket at night? Trying to figure out if I want to do cloth diapers or bamboo, the hybrid looks the most convenient in this video but I like the look of Nora's Nursery
We use a combination of a pocket with a cotton prefold as an insert. Or a prefold folded like a pad in the cover, microfleece liner on top and a cover! :) It was sooooo overwhelming when we decided to look into cloth!
I am planning on using pocket diapers once baby fits in them. So probably use disposable for 2 months ish? I have about 14 cloth diapers right now. But I heard 25-30 is ideal to not do laundry constantly.
You’ll probably want to use disposable for the first month or 2 since you change sooo many in those early days. I have 20 and it’s the perfect amount. More would be great but regardless, you should be washing every 2-3 days to not leave them soiled for too long. We use pockets and love it! Congrats!
You may even get away with using them sooner! I was hesitant at first to use my pockets as they seemed so huge, but I probably could have used them by the end of week 4 or 5, or as soon as baby hits 8lbs ish. Baby’s proportions will play into it a bit, and you’ll have to adapt your inserts as you go so that you’re not wrestling with too much bulk. Pro-tip: get onesie snap in extenders when you hit 4-5 months - you won’t have to size up as quickly on onesies to accommodate for fluff butt :)
Do you have any tips on dressing a cloth diapered baby? I’m planning on cloth diapering but I’m assuming the extra fluff impacts fit of clothing. Thank you!!!!
Omg I just started. How often do you wash them. I save about 10 or 20 at a time .is that to long to wash them. But when I do wash them it smells so bad of poison lol. It's so bad . And I have to pull out the liner because I use pocket kind. So when I pull it out it's soaked and my fingers are touching pee. Any recommendations
Hi everyone! Does anybody know if you can use Purex Naturals liquid laundry detergent to wash cloth diapers? I dont want to mess them up. With our son 16 1/2 years ago, we used disposable. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with our daughter and plan on mostly using coth diapers. We'll probably do 80% cloth nd 20% disposable diapers. My friend who is very excited for us to use cloth diapers bought us several pocket diapers so we have quite a lot of them. Thanks for all of th information!
We have hand me down pocket diapers from a friend that we use on occasion, but I dont feel overly confident in the fit and dont use them on a regular basis since they seem to leak. How do I know if i have the right snaps chosen for my baby, or if the leg elastic is stretched out and needs to be replaced or tossed?
I haven’t started using reusable diapers. I’m concerned as to how it will keep the baby feel dry when the baby pees. As in the disposable one it gets soaked by the gel and helps keep dry. Kindly reply any mom who has used the reusable one
We cut out a rectangle of fleece fabric the same size as the diaper. It mostly helps them feel dryer longer, might prevent a little bit of rash and helps collect solids, and super easy.
Question ⁉️ So I purchased pockets on Amazon and tried them out. Only had a pee situation, but I noticed that they do not breathe AT ALL. Seemed like a rash or infection waiting to happen! It was so swampy in there. Is there something that can be done to mitigate this?
There was no such thing as disposable diapers when I was young. Everyone had cloth diapers and used 'plastic pants' which was a full plastic panty to go over the diaper. Wet diapers got washed, Dirty diapers went straight to the bathroom and was SUBMERGED IN THE TOILET...because thats were poop goes. Holding the end of the diaper we would flush the toilet and use the swirling water act like small washing machine. Ya might do this more than twice with some diapers and then you'd fold it over, ring the water out and drop it in your diaper pail, until wash day. No biggie and the water in your toilet is the same water in your tap that you drink and cook with and water your lawn with, so as long as you keep a clean toilet, there's nothing gross about it. Whats gross is letting your child sit in a diaper full of their acidy, skin burning poop. If your baby's bottom is pink, red or has a rash, his/her urine or poop is super acidic and burning their tender skin and those wipes youre using are going to hurt that baby because of the chemicals. If your baby cries or screams when you use a wipe then you need to rub your arm with sand till its raw and place one of those wipes on your bare skin so you have an understanding of what youre doing to your baby. Personal experience is the best teacher! AND YOUR GOING TO GET POOP ON YOU!! ...that's why they make soap!
I use disposable bamboo liners, and it catches the poo and so far my baby is EBF and 4mo and it still catches it even if it's liquidy, no need for spray pal. I also do EC and liners help if there's a bit of a shart on liner but diaper is clean, I can just change the liner and reuse the diaper. I never used AIO but tried everything else and I put preflats and prefolds away, pockets are faster for EC imo. I do cloth for money and environment, you can find biodegradable diaper trash bags, and i use it to toss in the wipes and liners. I only use disposables when we go out so the smallest diaper package like 30pk is enough to last until next size.
I've seen 5 cloth diaper videos and was like nah but this one makes me think it's doable. Sure those diapers will also take 400 years to decompose but other children can use them if you sell or donate then

If you don’t want to put up with having to rinse the poo off of the diaper/liner. You can get biodegradable/disposable bamboo liners that go over the cloth. It’s nice to be able to toss any solids in the trash and just clean the diaper in the wash. Less mess.
Solids should always go in the toilet
Omg thank you for this comment !!! ❤❤❤
What are these liners called??
But you wouldnt put poo in the rubbish bin? Even disposeables should be emtied into toilet before discarding.
Yaaaayyyy!!!!!! I still don’t know if I’m doing it right, but we’re doing it!! 😅😂😂
Me, not having kids, not pregnant, not even thinking about getting pregnant, but still finding this video fascinating!
Hahahahahha my favorite
We use prefolds and covers during the day and (super stuffed) pocket diapers at night. Been doing it for all 3 of my kids and this system really works for us! There are so many ways to do cloth diapers, I always encourage parents to give it a try, it's not as hard as it seems :)
I know this is an old comment, but I'm curious: how many pre-folds did you have (per kid)? That system sounds like a great system. From what I've seen it doesn't *look* that complicated as long as you get the routine down. There's so much laundry with a baby anyway
I just use prefolds and covers. So easy just using a pad fold. Cheap and easy to clean! Also using Grovia hybrids which are also super easy!
Do you have videos about this brand ?
That’s exactly what we do! I wash all in the same load but dry like you so and we’re almost 6 months in and it’s been a breeze!
Important ‼️ pocket diapers will usually come with microfiber inserts...these cannot be placed against baby's skin because it will severely dry them out, so make sure if you use a hybrid you dont purchase microfiber inserts
I’ve heard bamboo or hemp inserts can be better. I’m not sure if you have any experience with these?
Thanks so much for sharing momma!
@@ASMRKay_ I have charcoal bamboo as well, we experimented with using these on the outside of the pocket against the skin and she would at times get rashes...but she still sometimes gets rashes without them so I can't say for sure if that was the problem. I do not have hemp but that is next on my list to try!
@@emilydrummond2495 thanks so much for all your helpful advice!
@@DeepRootedwithTulani I just like them because they don't stain 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for being quick and concise. So many of these TH-cam videos drag on forever and I just want the good stuff!
Ayyyyyy I love that!!!
That’s amazing!
Are there any resources you would recommend for that? Our little sweetie is only 3mos but already I’m sooo over diapers lol
@@ASMRKay_ Haha how cool is that! All the best to you!
SAME! 🤍
Haha same here too!! I have tons of rewatching to do now, plus making the bf watch parts of some too 😛
I use pockets and love them! So cheap on Amazon. And we just keep a spray bottle and flannel wipes to clean. If we needed to, we have disposable wipes we could use and throw in the trash. We also do disposables overnight. Thanks for being so thorough but also brief! You strike that balance very well! 😁
@ItsJess what inserts do you use wanting too use them soon but overwhelmed my sons 3mons
@@ItsJess2220 Ty Ty Ty I’ll look into it!
80/20 works 10/90 works do what works for your family and dont stress about it😊
Awesome video, and a great one to send people who ask us about ours!
Baby girl is now 2 weeks old and I'm sooo excited to switch to cloth but so overwhelmed at the same time. Thank you sooo much for this video 🥰
This video was *exactly* what I needed! I finally know what type of sewing patterns for cloth diapers I'm going to look for!
🥳👏👏👏
The flip cover is literally the same bumgenius diaper without the aio as it’s all owned by Cotton Babies. That’s why I use flip for over night and the same bumgenius aio “freestyle” during the day. I love the fit, I have about 70 😂 All bought second hand though.
I love prefolds with covers but I thought I'd love pockets but ended up hating them. Try other styles if its not working, you can sell them pretty easily too. Prefolds are so easy to clean and spray off.
That’s a good point that it’s easy to resell!
I used All in Ones with my daughter and thought I loved them. With my son now I have pockets...and ABSOLUTELY love them
I have both hibrids and pocket cloth diapers and I strongly recommend people to buy a couple of each before really starting to cloth diaper and then decide what works best for them.
Thank you for the info , you're approach is straight to the point is great, more i understand how many to buy and piculiarities
Thanks for the infomercial 😉! I’ve been overwhelmed, but you helped me narrow it down.
👏👏👏
I think for cloth diaper newbie’s, a flushable diaper liner is a good idea. You can put the thin liner over any diaper insert etc. and if the baby had a poo, you can just fold the liner up, around the poo and flush it. That’s even more convenient, than the stench of a trashcan of disposable diapers.
And they literally are biodegradable and super affordable.
Are liners normally flushable??
…. Don’t flush them. Even though they say flushable they wreck the municipal systems and your septic. Not worth it.
Thank you!!
Exactly what I was going to say Shannon :) We have about 5 hybrid covers and 20 liners. Huge advantage is that you can air dry the covers so they don’t damage in the dryer. We love the wool disana covers as well 💓
@@brisakeizer4050 can you please share the link for liners and covers.
🙌🙌 thank you
Fellow Canadian here: Cutie Patootie FlexiNappies are also a great Canadian brand! They can be used as a pocket or hybrid/AI2 and they are lined with grey fleece (no stains!). Best part is the pocket opens on both ends which means no need to un-stuff before washing, the inserts can agitate out on their own.
@@Emma-sv7lh omg thank you!!! ❤❤
I love your personality! My husband and I are planning to start our family in a year or so, I'm just researching now and this was so helpful!
Love from South Africa.
what is ec?

I love natural cloth diapering with wool covers! 💕
Im about to switch to cloth, this was the video I needed. Thank you!
Ohmygoodness, thank you Shayla! I needed this and you’re right about how it’s presented on the websites. I’m new to cloth diapering and I’m lost in all of it. But your videos are helping me!
Thank you, your video is really useful!! Helped me understand the different cloth diapers in the market.
Thank you so much!!! We will choose cloth pocket diaper...Let´s see how it goes :)
It's been a minute since I got them and I did hybrids and watching this video reminded me why. So I'm gonna do em again for baby 2.
Charlie banana's hybrids are very nice too because you can either stuff it with an insert or put the insert on top.
Video was suggested whilst I was getting ready to stuff my cloth nappies
okay so liners,
there are multiple types
bamboo disposable
other disposable
and fleece reusable / sposie
bamboo an other are disposable ones that you put on the diaper then throw out at changes
cons they move a lot and are pron to more leakage
fleece ones, you buy one of the 3$ fleece blankets from Walmart and cut them into the size of an insert no sew needed!
most people throw them out with poo but you could also spray it easier than regular inserts and reuse, you put them in the hamper every pee Change and reuse!
cons, there are not many if anyone has some let me know
pros, you save money, they dont slide as much so then the actually keep the poop in!
all liners have the same basic usage
they let pee flow through and the are supposed to hold pop on for easier disposal!
If you are using microfiber inserts do not put it against the baby’s skin. Microfiber is moisture wicking and will dry baby’s skin out.
NORAS! 🙌🏼
Not saying they are the best, but man they have been so easy to navigate! Because the shells are so cute there are buy/sell/trade groups on FB marketplace for them haha!
I’ve got 2 full sets used and they have held up so well! So I think as long as you take care of them they are well worth the money!
omg !!! where have you been my entire mommy motherhood LIFE!!! Thank you for this video 💜💜💜
I just bought bumgenius AIOs from Facebook marketplace too. Waaay cheaper than buying new. We’re about10 weeks away from meeting baby boy! Super excited to cloth diaper when he gets a little chubby 😄💕
Which one? Freetime or Elemental?
Thank you for being straight forward and fun! Just subscribed!
I can speak to the pros and cons for flats and covers.
Pros:
Super easy to wash
Super fast dry time
Very affordable
Cons:
Folding
Not the slimmest fit
I conceived the month you posted this! But thank you so much, instant sub from me. I am set on cloth and I need soooo much help!
Hi 👋🏼 what is a wrap please?

I think you totally could!
Hybrid = can be used with either a cloth or a disposable insert
You’re the third Shayla I’ve “met”. My name is also Shayla I just use a Ch Instead of an S.
The constant ringing of the bell was very annoying. However, this was good info.
I love pocket LPOs.
We use a combination of a pocket with a cotton prefold as an insert. Or a prefold folded like a pad in the cover, microfleece liner on top and a cover! :) It was sooooo overwhelming when we decided to look into cloth!
So with the pocket diapers do you replace the diaper and the insert when they pee also?
Yes you’d throw the whole thing in the laundry bin. But if it’s poop it’s easier to clean with less flaps
Shayla, you rock! I have enjoyed all of your videos, and….. I’m done having children! Where were you 9 years ago?
Hahaha omg I love this! Man all the information is goos but sometimes overwhelming I wonder if it would be better raising babies then or now!
All in ones are the most logical, but so expensive for no reason 😢 the pockets are popular bc of the price so that’s what I’ll settle for.
I got mine used🤷♀️
Do you have any tips on dressing a cloth diapered baby? I’m planning on cloth diapering but I’m assuming the extra fluff impacts fit of clothing. Thank you!!!!
You can size up, but mine was mostly pantless haha

Hi everyone! Does anybody know if you can use Purex Naturals liquid laundry detergent to wash cloth diapers? I dont want to mess them up.
With our son 16 1/2 years ago, we used disposable. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with our daughter and plan on mostly using coth diapers. We'll probably do 80% cloth nd 20% disposable diapers. My friend who is very excited for us to use cloth diapers bought us several pocket diapers so we have quite a lot of them.
Thanks for all of th information!
I love the pocket Diapers. Also my husband uses disposables to change the baby and me wanna be mother nature I'm a cloth diaper activist 😆 🤣
I wear Huggies Goodnites pull ups for night issue. Any cloth diaper for pre teens?
Hi there.. how often do you change these type of diapers? I guess more often then a disposable one?
generally every 2 hours :)
Where can I get all in one AIO diaper to purchase
I've seen 5 cloth diaper videos and was like nah but this one makes me think it's doable. Sure those diapers will also take 400 years to decompose but other children can use them if you sell or donate then
I want to get a bidet and i also want to do elimination communication
Thank you so much!
So how many diapers do I need to get?
