this may be a hot take, but i loved the newborn phase. everyone told me id struggle and hate it and i repeatedly told people no, i love this. i know not everyone is as lucky as i am to have a healthy delivery and a loving husband but man, now that i have a 3 month old im so sad the newborn phase is over. again, i know im very blessed but i just want other moms to know that sometimes you will LOVE the newborn stage

It depends where your priorities are. If your priority is enjoying the newborn stage and recovering it will be so enjoyable if your priority is getting back to your old routine before baby you will find yourself fighting against yourself and feeling resentful.

That's so funny, I love hearing different perspectives without the "trust me this is how you'll feel" attitude. Because all I heard was "soak up these snuggles, they aren't tiny like this for long, you'll miss this so much, it only gets harder from here" etc etc on and on. And I had two very difficult newborn phases so far. And amazing seasons with them older! It only keeps getting better for us! Even the terrible twos are just not anything compared to the difficulty of newborns so far for me.
Maybe this time I'll have a dreamy newborn season with this baby!!

One thing i learnt was that if you're breast feeding, empty your bladder forst as this allows full contraction of your uterus and a fuller "milk drop" , and number 2 ..is that when that umbilical cord is starting to come off and looks a bit manky,or straight after it does come off, drip breastmilk into the open part and it honestly clears it up in no time at all, just about everything is fixed by leaving breastmilk on it 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

Something that was so helpful for me (having our master on the 2nd floor) was having a mini fridge in our bedroom full of waters and other hydrating drinks and I kept some easy, quick snacks on top of the mini fridge. This was so helpful for my recovery. Also if you plan to breastfeed, it is so worth it to invest in a lactation consultant.

I am someone who never thought I would cosleep due to anxiety, but I’ve actually found that having him laying along my body skin to skin is the safest I’ve felt. It seems that I am overproducing milk and I can tell if he gags immediately when he’s beside me.

Wake windows are everything. When my babies were newborns I was very resistant to track wake windows because it was yet another mental task to juggle and I thought it was a corner I could cut without dire consequences. But we inevitably ran into SERIOUS over tiredness problems when I didn’t at least try to be aware of sleep timing. More mental energy in the moment; but much less stress overall.

Mom to 2 under 2 here! My tip is to get knee high socks for the newborn stage. Those tiny little socks never stay on, but I would sometimes put my toddler's cute Burt's Bees cable knit socks on my newborn and pull them all the way up. They stay way better!

My baby is now 6 months old and aside from the first weeks of getting the hang of breastfeeding - and in general how to take care of a baby - I can honestly say I loved the newborn stage. I was lucky enough that he's a mellow little dude and although we had a hospital stint due to a urinary tract infection at 8 weeks we enjoyed the getting to know each other phase. BTW I work from home in editing and translating and never stopped doing it - just wore him in my Ergobaby.

36 weeks with baby five, but first boy. Definitely need a refresher too. My babies were all very colicky and some of my tips were to keep the tummy warm. Place the baby across your arm and they calm down. If the crying gets unbearable, it's OK to let the baby cry and get a quiet minute to recoop so you can keep handling it. Also changing from indoors to outdoors suddenly also calmed the baby, don't know why. Baby tea is also amazing for colic. And learn about tongue and lip ties for sure.

I dont care how tired or sleep deprived I am but I loved every second of the newborn stage. My newborn will be a month old next week. ❤
I know your newborn needs to feed every 3 to 4 hours but its not necessary to wake your baby up in the middle of the night for feeding if your baby is progressing normally and is not underweight. When you newborn sleeps through the night for a good 6 hour.. let the baby sleep because it teaches them night time sleep. My newborn started sleeping through the night towards the end of the second week and its been blissful. He sleeps at 11 at night and wakes up at 5 for feeding and sleeps again and wakes up at 7 or 8 for the next feeding. Its like that for my first 2 kids as well. They all sleep through the night.
The hakaa breast suction is the best. Cheap and easy ❤

    • @DZ-eu4pj
      @DZ-eu4pj 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@babycakes8434 it's kinda like a suction pump and acts like an automatic pump. There's a yt video on how to use it but I didn't use it for long unfortunately because I had complications after I delivered and lost too much blood. newborn life was really hard for me,
mostly bc of how young and immature i was. in my mind i hadn't been able to shift well from being taken care of to taking care of another. my son had a lot of tummy troubles/colic, and it was just a lot on me. i was the first of anyone i knew to have a baby too (i still am the only one of my friends with kids lol) and it was hard mourning my old life. i'm 25 now, i have two kids and i'm hopefully about to be pregnant with my third. once i started going all in on being a mom and just grew up a little it's become a lot easier. i am so grateful for them. ❤ i also just LOVE the toddler stage way more than the baby stage, it's more fun to me! if it doesn't come naturally to you when your baby is born, just give it time.

And for fingernails, I remember for my first kid, the tip of her fingernails just fell off by themselves until when she was a few months old, so I never needed to clip her nails during that time. But great tips for clipping their nails when they are asleep, this would come in handy when baby is older too!

Enjoy the crying, it’s communication even though it might feel overwhelming at times I take that challenge and love it

Girls pee too when the cool air hits them (or a cool wipe). I wasn't expecting this until I found out first hand.
I've found those tiny mittens useless and use socks on their hands instead. They stay on much better and keep babies face scratch free.
Also, not every baby likes to be swaddled. My tip would be to experiment until you get it right. Try the full body swaddle, or the torso and legs only (some babies find comfort in having their hands at their face), or perhaps its a sleep sack that works best!

Amen to ALL of this -with the exception that gas drops works much better than gripe water for my babies (But I know that some of those product-specific things are so so dependant on each baby). I do still love the point that it is worthwhile to have *something* on hand that you know will do the trick when nothing else is working.

Things i suggest having before baby so you don't have to run out and get it, trust me you don't want be doing that after birth:
    1) Enough food, drinks, snacks for for breastfeeding, in the house for everyone, atleast 2 weeks worth. Quick or frozen foods are great cause you never know what the baby's schedule or fuss level will be around dinner.
    2) buy 1 container or ask for some at the hospital of formula. You never know what will happen with breast feeding once you come home, having a hungry baby will not be good for anyone. I was very reluctant about this with my first and when i got home my baby was starving fir 2 days and i didn't know i was not making any milk. Or maybe they can't latch. Being fed is what's important. There's no shame in a little help.
    3) thermometer and covers, diaper rash cream, gripe water, nipple cream, your pads, lots of comfortable underwear and bras or tanks.
