    It’s good to have a “bench mark” even with all the caveats, it just helps give a bit of focus as I train on my own.

      Yea, the caveats were why it took me so long to put this one out, glad it was useful!

    Great video - I'm absolutely all over the place between the 3 levels for different movements! I'm basically beyond elite on lower body areas, good on bench, and maybe pullups... nowhere close for push press, but I've never gone for it properly I suppose.

      Interesting, I imagine you spent time training like a powerlifter to get those numbers... I would suggest you're plenty strong enough as far as raw strength goes 💪👍

      @@tjrugbymuscle spot on, and cheers. Yeah I think it shouldn’t be my main focus anymore… But so hard to drop the intensity on it, when it’s something I know I’m good at haha.

    What’s the best workout split for strength and build muscles for rugby players off season

    Very tempted to print this off (the Good vs the Elite and put it on the fridge as to know that I need to try to keep going up!) I wonder just how hard it would be to transform from the good to the elite....in say at least 3 of the categories....if it was even possible** Hooker here

      I wouldn't bother, it's just a reference, you don't do your own programming anyway (you're in Team Rugby Muscle) so just focus on the strength work when it's there, I think you're exactly where you need to be.

    I have a question about how weight training doesn't cause a loss of speed.
    Do you only refer to flat out sprint speed, or all aspects of speed combined? Including directional change speed, foot speed/cadence?
    I'm a football player, not a rugby player. However, I'm into my weight training and will continue to do it regardless. I'm just curious as to why top level footballers never/rarely do heavy weight lifting - the only reason I can think of is that they will lose that split second of speed when accelerating or turning, which I think is more important in a game of football than rugby

    • @tjrugbymuscle
      @tjrugbymuscle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They lift! They're just not huge (rugby selects naturally bigger stronger guys in comparison).
      Being strong in football is still pretty important, it's just that the skill elements of football is so much more important and is why you'll get top level pros who get away with being relatively weaker

    I have a question, for back squat should you do a deep or half squat? Btw I fit in the Good Category, would it be enough for me to play rugby?

    • @tjrugbymuscle
      @tjrugbymuscle  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you're good then yes absolutely. Back squat is full depth

    • @tjrugbymuscle
      @tjrugbymuscle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep. But there's no need to test to check, just a prospective idea

  • @theItalianshamrock

    For backs you definitely need more speed, agility, and endurance. Strength is great but if you cant step someone or run past a defender youre kinda useless out there lol

    • @aarondt77
      @aarondt77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly as they said on previous Pod ep "Rugby is supposed to evasive not direct contact"

    • @tjrugbymuscle
      @tjrugbymuscle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, that's the thing here, it's NOT just about strength at all, I'd say even most forwards need to focus more on endurance. The purpose of these markers more than anything is to get guys to STOP once they reach points of diminishing returns to focus on other important points

    Focus on speed. Weighs are going make you tired and slow you down
