I love this performance because you can see that Adam was in a mood. Brian May said that is only a piano and Adam vocals make if feel like there was an entire orchestra.

Yes, fans can tell there is something different about this performance of the song. I think he and his boyfriend at the time (not his current BF but the man before him) had just ended their relationship. His BF was from Spain and had just graduated university when they met. I believe his VISA ran out and could not be renewed so he had to return home. From my understanding they are still friends. I think Adam's a rare unicorn in that he has remained friends with his exes.
It doesn't show it here but after he performed, James came over and gave him a hug and said that was incredible.

Yeah this was right around the time things ended with Javi and you can definitely tell Adam was feeling it during this performance.

This song breaks my heart a little everytime I hear it. Especially this performance since, as mentioned below by Deb, this was right around the time Adam’s previous relationship ended and you can tell he was still feeling it here.
Dammit I just want him to be happy. He deserves that true and lasting love. I hope he’s finally found it.

Yeah, great performance. As far as keeping his voice in tip-top shape after all these years, that is not talent. It's great technique, lots of practice and hard work, taking care of it, saving it as much as possible and making sure to always sing with the proper technique. The reason why lots of pop and rock singers damage their voices is because they don't have that basis of proper singing technique. And that's also the reason why classically trained singers can keep their voices well into old age. I'm not worried about Adam's voice. He doesn't scream or shout his songs, he sings them. That's why he is so consistent live. You'll never hear him sing a bad note (unless he's sick, but even then I bet he'd sound better than most)
One of Adam's gigs he had a fever, another he had bronchitis, and I swear you couldn't even tell....just incredible.
the difference in the 2 performances !! now my friend, please react to Adam singing "SOAKED" while in Indianapolis in 2010 - you will see a huge difference in the performance because you will see the reaction of the audience, and his reaction TO the audience - it's uncanny
