One thing I have to come to terms with is that I'm not that good of a Fire Emblem player, being too used to wanting to give every unit a chance and get stronger, rather than stick to objectively good units or not even having a focus on investing in that one character I want to improve, and thus leads me to not strategize as effectively and even need to rely on grinding to get good. I’m looking at this list and thinking I must’ve got lucky with some of these characters because I didn’t have a bad time getting up Sonia and Charlotte the being one of my best units in Conquest.
Sonya isn't that bad starting out and it's not hard to make her strong, plus as I said concerning Charlotte her growths are VERY impressive and as a Berserk she crits like crazy.
I'd certainly put Nino on my own list. She's an abysmal unit but oh my god, her character arc even without support conversations, is simultaneously absolutely heart rending and triumphantly uplifting. She manages to maintain her endearing sense of optimism and even innocence despite having been manipulated by her wretched bitch of a "mother" into nearly taking the life of a (then) innocent prince near to her own age. And all that for the very prospect of receiving the one thing every child is entitled to, parental affection. Only to realize shortly thereafter that the woman who was believed to be her mother was actually the one who killed her family in the first place, and merely raised her for the purpose of being a pawn and eventually a scapegoat as well. But with the support (no pun intended) of her closest and newly acquired friend, (and potential husband) who inflicted retribution on Nino's irredeemably contemptuous surrogate parent, Nino manages to stay true to herself and provide a hopeful outlook for her newfound peers. I wish I could a muster a word more articulate than "powerful" but I'm kind of exhausted as I type this so "powerful" will have to do. Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade was my first Fire Emblem game and that level of powerful character writing not only made me fall head over heels for the kind of effort put into these games' casts, but made me realize first hand why the franchise is so acclaimed by fan and critic alike, and made feel that much more elated that I chose to get my feet wet and try it out.
Charlotte and Donnel, that's not very cash-money of you, ironically enough. Btw I also dislike Izuka. He's running the Sonic series into the ground. I'll take my leave now.
@@fedechan6325 How exactly? Xander legit pissed me off several times in each route. Have you seen Ghast Station's support science videos on him? We share many of the same opinions.
These top 10's just keep getting better, I actually had to stop it twice due to laughter. I'm in agreement with all of these besides Sonya, in my experience she's definitely better than Boey even with his earlier joining time, no Seraphim hurts late game but she's a pretty nice Excalibur spammer and upon promotion she gains healing which is very appreciated on Celica's side with all of the terrain that deals damage in Act 4 and Rewarp and Entrap are pretty nice as well. Deen is of course the better unit but it's a lot harder to pick than what it sounds like as with Deen you're getting another great combat unit while with Sonya you're getting flexibility as well as being able to use Excalibur for cheesing certain engagements.
Beruka in Conquest is a unit who I can never bare to bench, despite often ending up quite lacking for damage output (mainly due to low speed and middling str failing to compensate), which coupled with her bow weakness and low res and simply being overshadowed in nearly every way by Camilla. Last time I played I sunk way too many stat boosts and resources for forged weapons into her to make her viable, in addition to buying the aptitude skill from castle battles. Hell, it actually made her a powerhouse and a flying fortress, especially when I gave her the unique weapon aptly named "Beruka's Axe" which gave her an impressive crit rate. Totally worth it
Beruka isn't bad per as due to her being an only Wyvern rider beside Camilla (not counting child units and reclassing) she gets a unique edge and her base is fine alongside her growths. So overall Beruka is a good unit just not one of the strongest in the game.
@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 The mock the emblems were great as well, but I'm talking minute long bitesize shitposts to keep us going in-between videos. Could be something to consider. Though if you do, you might want to just have your patreon shoutouts in the description, otherwise they be longer than the actual video!
Funny, Donnel was the powerhouse in my Awakening playthrough. Admittedly, it was because I played it after 3H and didn't know that the advanced classes have worse growths. Since Donnel was one character I couldn't rush into an advanced class, and yes I did take him on grinding missions, his stats ended up stupidly higher than the rest of the team. I could just park him in the middle of the enemies and leave him there until everything was dead. And when he got the skill that made weapons not use up durability with a dex proc, I could just give him the best weapons and they'd never wear out.
Nice to see Rebecca getting a mention, she really is a great character, even if her performance as a unit is...lacking. Though, I've found that abusing Rebecca's fire affinity supports helps make up for her less than stellar combat capabilities a bit as she gets a crap ton of crit and will be able to blast fools left and right with a little luck. Though, that also means having to bring along Dart and Lowen, which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the person
10-Rebecca? I think she is just average or at least useful. 09-Sonya... I just need A word to define this unit... Disappointment. 08-Rolf Well at least he's better than meg... 07-CHARLOTTE!?!? NANI!?!? She's extremely useful, Odin should be in this top. His magic is very loose, and his physical attack doesn't hit hard; but what kills me is that speed. He'll always run the risk of receiving a double attack most of the time. Not even his bonus are that good. 06-Sophia, fuck... just fuck it... Look as a character is fine... But as a unit, only pain awaits you. 05-Pelleas... Pain, Grief and Despair, that's all I have to say. 04-Renaud an unnecessary unit. 03-Sanaki? B-but she is a Loli nuke, everyone loves them... Well at least she IS better than meg... 02-Donnel. I just want to know who was the IDIOT who didn't give any specialized class with Spears in his classline. Do you know how long it takes to raise your rank in spears and then never to use that weapon again? YOU DO!? 01-Amelia The game wants you to promote her into a general, but you KNOW that paladin is the only way. The only reason why I don't hate her is very simple, she is cute and her supports are very sweet. In general only one doesn't deserve to be in this top, everything else is debatable.
I recently finished FE7 for the first time and while I didn’t delve into supports I trained Rebecca and quite enjoyed using her even though Louise was better. Also this was hilarious, great list and job with the edits!
Yeah I’m with you on grinding and second seals. I rarely used a second seal but characters like Donnel and Vaike definitely benefited from it by turning Vaike into a ruffian and Donnel into a mercenary then a hero (I mean, who doesn’t?). But the character who benefited MOST was Nowi. I made her a wyvern Knight, then made her a lord, and she became my LITERALLY STRONGEST CHARACTER. She single handedly slayed the red devil Walhart. Not even Panne with rouge and max assasin levels compared to her.
Not sure I agree with using Eliwood as the example for good character useless combatant. I don't know if my Eliwoods were RNG blessed or my Hectors RNG screwed but I've had several runs where Eliwood has ended up as strong or stronger than Hector. And even when things go normally he's far from bad.
Eliwood is objectively bad but it's more down to his class line and late promotion, he's build is good and he doesn't have much trouble killing, but he's sword and foot locked for so long which is what makes him bad. Lyn is the same situation only worse since she doesn't get a mount or lances upon promotion.
@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 Despite That, In My EHM My Eliwood Got Max Strenght, Max Speed 16 Defense, Almost 40 HP At Max Lv... @@tristanbowles7258 I'm stating an outright fact, when the time comes that you do need to grind to complete the brutal bonus levels, donnel loses every reason to be used.
@@Saltyoven i think his best advantage is the combination of high luck and armsthrift. his luck cap is 51, meaning that, with armsthrift equipped, his weapons never break, letting him use legendary weapons liberally. still falls short compared to other units, but at least he has that
Which is a shame because hes always ny best archer ans in my first playthrough before i discovered grinding, he was easily my best unit. Hes also a top tier character personality wise but thats my opinon
9. Sonya can be promoted further to Enchantress. 7. Charlotte can also be recruited in Revelations Chapter 14: Orders, where Nohr's little cinnamon bun Elise joins you automatically, along with her retainers Arthur and Effie, but I prefer to play Fates on Phoenix mode since Elise gets bulldozed while trying to recruit Charlotte and Benny. But well worth it. 5. Not to mention the requirements to get him are ridiculous: Starting from Clear Data, Proceed to Chapter 3-13, getting Soren near him to beat him?! 1. I make Amelia a Paladin for one reason: The support between her and Duessel.
I always use Rebecca because I like her, whether or not the RNG is on her side. Then it's a toss-up between Wil and Rath if I decide to use another bow unit. And I always, ALWAYS use Rolf in FE9 even if I also use Astrid, simply because he's adorable. I can never decide whether I like Charlotte best with Xander or Benny. She and Benny have that old-friends dynamic, but her supports with Xander are amazing. And I am a chronic Amelia user. Granted, I'm also a chronic tower abuser, but it's worth it for Amelia. My favorite characters who are Bad Units: Azelle, Coirpre, Tailtiu, Nino, Ilyana, Micaiah, Lowen, and Erk.
Blazing Knight: Gushes over Amelia. Me: Stuck on the chapter you recruit her in. Also Blazing Knight: Sacred Stones is piss easy! Also Me: then why am I stuck?!
Sacred Stones is one of the few games where Generals are actually useful. I'm the guy who always benches knights, but Gilliam as a General turned out pretty cool. As for my list of units characters which are good characters, Tauroneo from PoR surely comes to mind.
Charlotte can be more dangerous in Revelations if you do a friendship support with Rinkah, and when she gets that Deathblow Skill, sweet merciful Palutena is she a monster with either a killing axe or even a Brave Axe. I've tested this myself and I agree, Charlotte and Xander are by far the BEST romantic support ever, arguably more than Peri and Xander.

My number one is Kaden He hits like a stuffed animal and he gets killed in only a couple of hits BUT I love his interactions with the cast with how laid back and helpful he is He and Sakura are also my favorite fates ship (and I love Sakuras Halloween alt because of it) But kaden does redeem himself with his evasion and crit rate combined with his self healing makes this pincushion and surprisingly good cork to put at a choke point
Vishwa Arun how is evasion worthless if the enemy can’t hit you you don’t die And I stacked him with after battle damage skills like grizzly wound and poison strike so a 12 damage crit still works
You haven't experienced true bliss until you've watched Donnel solo Rogues and Redeemers: 3, where he kills every major Lord and Villain in the entire franchise, with a well-earned "YEEHAW!"
Oooooh boy. I’m gonna say it. Lowen is a superior unit to Kent and Sain, at least when Lyn Mode is not a factor. Lowen has 6 more chapters of availability (7 on Eliwood mode), phenomenal base stats for a level 2 unit, and has serviceable growths that, on average, boost him high enough to be a very potent combat unit for a majority of the game. He does fall quite a bit behind Sain, but he will never be a bad choice for deployment due to his 7-8 move, canto, and rescue utility. The difference between him and Kent is minuscule. He has a 10% less in strength and speed growths, but that’s only 1 extra stat per 10 levels, a very insignificant amount. And Lowen’s considerable exp lead will make him far statistically superior to Kent and Sain at join time. Kent and Sain have to dig themselves out of a hole that Lowen doesn’t have to. Lowen holds his own more than sufficiently throughout early and mid game
Without Lyn mode he does on average end up better than them, and even with Lyn mode he's still great purely based on the fact that he's a high availability cav that can become a paladin.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on Sonya. I don't know why everyone thinks Mae and Boey are such great units when in my playthrough they just kept dying or doing mediocre damage. Sonya stole the mage stage and whenever she would be in combat, her Mage Ring would let her more or less become the crit master. She was able to OHKO pretty much everyone. I don't know if it was because of the Mage Ring or if I got pretty lucky with growths but eh. Mae and Boey were forgotten early on in Celica's route.
i think the biggest problem is her competition. she is far from bad, but deen has the best class in the game, and his bases makes him one of your strongest units the instant he joins. you are basically choosing between a good unit and a great one, and one of many dread knights is more appealing than one of many mages
They may have been ineffective during your play through but in terms of statistical performance both of them are better (especially Mae) primarily due to their join time. Sonya isn't down right terrible since she can do stuff at base and has good growths but by the time you recruit all three mages will be on average stronger than her and she doesn't have access to the likes of Seraphin, plus the fact that you have to give up Deen in order to user her doesn't help since he's better in almost every way. I mean from my experience Sonya became better than Boey but that's me and all the evidence points towards Sonya being worse than those two.
Fair enough. Honestly, I sort of became sick of Dread Fighters when my Kamui and Saber could also OHKO everyone so I don't really regret not picking Dean haha. But again, I see where you're coming from

Another well made video! Such skill in editing done for bad units. Nice
Charlotte and Donnel, that's not very cash-money of you, ironically enough.
Btw I also dislike Izuka. He's running the Sonic series into the ground.
I'll take my leave now.

I'm lucky none of it made it on the screen...

I imagine Corrin will be easy number 1.

The editting on this video made me laugh my ass off lmao, I also made my day
32:53 Phew! Vanessa is top tier, she’s still my favourite
26:36 man this scene lmao
The editing has been top notch! Keep it up!
The added alliterative appeal is astonishingly amazing and amusing. Also, good video.
Thanks I'm glad that you noticed.
That GOD LIKE editing with the Star Wars clips and Rolf!
I finally know where you got the scene for the Izuka joke.
Idk if its just me but Sonya always turns into a beast unit in every time i play Echoes especially if you give her the lady blade
You could very easily branch out into shitposts as well. The cut away jokes in this video were fantastic!
Well I've done it twice with mock the emblem and 'Fire Emblem Fates according to Leo', also thanks very much.
@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 The mock the emblems were great as well, but I'm talking minute long bitesize shitposts to keep us going in-between videos. Could be something to consider.
Top ten: great characters that are great units...but IS killed/burn because is a tradition...(looking at you Laegjarn :,( )
I like the how you edit with your hands
Thanks very much I'm glad you admire the effect.
6:41 yeah this is accurate
Nice to see Rebecca getting a mention, she really is a great character, even if her performance as a unit is...lacking. Though, I've found that abusing Rebecca's fire affinity supports helps make up for her less than stellar combat capabilities a bit as she gets a crap ton of crit and will be able to blast fools left and right with a little luck. Though, that also means having to bring along Dart and Lowen, which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the person
10-Rebecca?
I think she is just average or at least useful.
09-Sonya...
I just need A word to define this unit... Disappointment.
08-Rolf
Well at least he's better than meg...
YOU DO!?
01-Amelia
The game wants you to promote her into a general, but you KNOW that paladin is the only way.
The only reason why I don't hate her is very simple, she is cute and her supports are very sweet.
In general only one doesn't deserve to be in this top, everything else is debatable.
I mean Donnel was still in E rank when i changed his class. He takes a REALLY long time to level up weapon ranks for some dumb reason
I recently finished FE7 for the first time and while I didn’t delve into supports I trained Rebecca and quite enjoyed using her even though Louise was better. Also this was hilarious, great list and job with the edits!
You just HAD to remind me of bridal fjorm....dam you rng!
Wow! Was not expecting a Rebels reference.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
15:40 One year later, be prepared for good news.
Not sure I agree with using Eliwood as the example for good character useless combatant. I don't know if my Eliwoods were RNG blessed or my Hectors RNG screwed but I've had several runs where Eliwood has ended up as strong or stronger than Hector. And even when things go normally he's far from bad.
me too, I pretty much was more useful with eliwood than hector
Eliwood is objectively bad but it's more down to his class line and late promotion, he's build is good and he doesn't have much trouble killing, but he's sword and foot locked for so long which is what makes him bad. Lyn is the same situation only worse since she doesn't get a mount or lances upon promotion.
@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 okay i don't know what I'm doing beacuse those two are my best units

He’s good I’m valm and only in valm
@@tristanbowles7258 I'm stating an outright fact, when the time comes that you do need to grind to complete the brutal bonus levels, donnel loses every reason to be used.
@@Saltyoven i think his best advantage is the combination of high luck and armsthrift. his luck cap is 51, meaning that, with armsthrift equipped, his weapons never break, letting him use legendary weapons liberally. still falls short compared to other units, but at least he has that
@@Underworlder5 Not to mention other characters can get to 50 Luck with Limit Break and/or Pair-up bonuses.

Did I hear TH-cam copyright strike?
I lol'd at Chaz voicing Xander--I didn't even need to look in the credits for that one :D

You've outdone yourself here mt man! This video wws hilarious!
My number one is Kaden
He hits like a stuffed animal and he gets killed in only a couple of hits BUT I love his interactions with the cast with how laid back and helpful he is
He and Sakura are also my favorite fates ship (and I love Sakuras Halloween alt because of it)
But kaden does redeem himself with his evasion and crit rate combined with his self healing makes this pincushion and surprisingly good cork to put at a choke point
Maybe I got lucky then because every time i used Kaden he was amazing! Always attacked twice, high hp and evasion and crit almost every turn
Libra The beautiful War Monk that’s his gimmick and what made him one of my favorite fates characters second only to kaze
Crit and evasion are nice, but useless if he is hitting for 3 or 4 damage
Vishwa Arun how is evasion worthless if the enemy can’t hit you you don’t die
And I stacked him with after battle damage skills like grizzly wound and poison strike so a 12 damage crit still works
@@tristanbowles7258 he still cant pick up kills with after damage skills alone, and evasion is not useful if that is all a character has
I absolutely adored all your alliteration throughout this video
You haven't experienced true bliss until you've watched Donnel solo Rogues and Redeemers: 3, where he kills every major Lord and Villain in the entire franchise, with a well-earned "YEEHAW!"
Lemme guess, you're gonna do the inverse of this list and Shinon(Radiant Dawn) is gonna be on it.
Actually, Shinon Is One Of BK's Favs
BLAZINGKNIGHT yep
But again, I see where you're coming from
The writing in this video is just soooooo goooooood
