I think of a good way to explain dodging towers, castles or town centres shots is to move in a spiral, this way you're moving out while also moving sideways. This means you'll leave the area of fire while also dodging the majority of shots. This technique goes out the window once ballistics is in.

The one this hera forgot to mention is nowadays people can quickly wall. So running into someone under the tower is risky since they can throw a house or a wall which will make it extra risky especially for archers since they won't be able to all fit close and die to tower. Also would have loved if he talked about when to vill rush a tower too or basically how to defend.

This is a great question. However, keep in mind that this video was about diving your opponents towers in his base. If you happen to be on the defense, that's content for another video. Maybe we get a tower series?

Small wall your camps, (large enough to stone wall if needed until the opponent stops attempting to break in castle age) this will stop most 'dives' with ranged units, and all of melee dives(you will still build a tower, preferably in a way to range units in key areas of the camp)

  • @RiskyDramaUploads

We don't see people splitting their large armies enough to avoid arrow fire. Like in a nomad game where a villager runs into a TC, but all the arrows miss. If you have a big army, the tower or TC can fire at the leading units and still hit something even if they would miss a single unit.
So, when sitting under a tower, you could send one unit out first to draw fire by moving in a spiral, and then the others leave.
But the best play involving towers is when you trap enemy villagers in it by walling its four sides (no need to wall the corners because you can't eject through a diagonal wall). Even if you have to leave, they can't even move to attack the walls so would have to be freed by some other units.
    Like TheViper does here: th-cam.com/video/jA1qqyy8zWc/w-d-xo.html

At lower ELOs, it is common for people to try to tower rush with no real army to back it up. In this case you almost always want to rush the tower down with your own villagers if you can do it before they have two overlapping towers. At higher ELOs it is more difficult because of quick walling.

I'm disappointed the video didn't discuss when to dive towers with villagers during tower wars. This is a problem I have on maps like Nomad where close proximity to enemy TCS can often lead to chaotic tower wars. Your own villagers can sometimes be the best tool you have to prevent the opponent from constructing towers of their own, but it's very risky. I often misjudge the risk of sending the boys forward. Losing one villager to knock a tower down is often worth it. Losing 5 and not even getting the tower down is usually game over.

At 5:06 why not order the scouts to attack the tower ? They can't be hit and they can also hit the 3 last vills.

What about rushing opponents forward tower with vils vs counter towering or maybe that's its own video. Decide if you wanna defend that area. What % of Tower is built before deciding on the rush. Rush with 10 vils or just 5 etc.

For another video suggestion: make a video on outposts. When and where to use them, how many, which maps they're more valuable on and how seriously the player should treat the stone investment involved.

Can someone explain why players don't just (stone) wall their towers? Can't be attacked then easily. Thus gets more value. I don't mean in all occasions. Let's say a usual defensive tower without planning gathering villagers inside. Even for gathering villagers it's effective I guess, just remove 1 wall.
Even later, with a stone wall around a tower up its super annoying. Is it "banned" or lame, not possible (was earlier at least, I remember) or not worth it or what's the reason here.

    • @RiskyDramaUploads
      @RiskyDramaUploads ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. Even palisade walls cost 24 wood and ~50 sec of build time (estimate direct + opportunity cost as ~40 resources, or twice that with stone walls), and that's with your forward villagers.
Often, it would make more sense to continue a push, and then go back and wall up towers, because it's harder to rush a tower down when the villagers who built it are still nearby.
If you stone walled all towers: that's basically 280 resources per tower (direct and opportunity costs). If all it does is force a new lumber camp, you spent 280 resources to force your opponent to spend 100 resources. Timely return on investment is very important. Once in castle age, opponent can clear out any towers relatively cheaply with 1~2 mangonels, even if stone walled, because offensive towers likely won't be close together.
Thinking back to Hera's recent game on Bay vs TheViper in TCI: TheViper went towers as Byzantines vs Hera as Malay, and even though Viper walled all but the corners of towers, Hera just killed them with elephants. Even if Viper had spent extra to wall the corners, elephants could still have taken them out easily.
Another option for taking out a walled-in tower is building a TC next to it. So the walls are very effective at preventing a small investment from destroying the tower, but a large investment can still cheaply destroy it.
