  • 05 BMW 645CI with no heat and engine not getting up to temperature. 196 degrees F at night 60 degrees ambiant temp. 215 degrees F during the day. Common problem with these cars. The weep hole has a electrically controlled valve that opens/closes electronically. The original piece-water pours through it easily the hole telling me the pental is open/damaged. The new one does not flow water through this hole. You can shake the thermostat and should hear the pental moving inaide the unit. Mine original did not make a sound! Hope this helps someone out!!!!!

Thermostat needs replacing, what was the point of this? The code tells you this along with looking at the temp gauge.

When I bought the car the temp wouldn't go up. So not having access to a dedicated scanner I found out on line these are wear items they fail over time. 2ndary water pump also wears out. 2ndary cooling pump is for the low rpm heat. At idle (stop light, parked) if theres no heat it's 2ndary pump. The point of the video was to advise BMW owners if you see a problem with your cooling system not heating up....it's these items that need to be replaced. Thanks for looking at my video!!!

How do you fix a stuck open thermostat on 2017 F15 X5 with the N55 engine?

If yours is electronic then it needs to be replaced unfortunately. These are common failure items you need to be aware of when dealing with the newer bmw cooling systems.
3 items that need to be replaced during ownership:
      1. thermostat by the water pump
      2. 2ndary water pump
      3. climate control solenoid
      I replaced all 3!
      Thanks for watching.

Wym by heat I scan mine and it says it's open but the car doesn't over heat or anything do you think is the valve like you said ?

Only way to find out is to remove the thermostat and do this simple test. If it leaks it will not allow the engine to heat up properly. If you do not have heat it can be the heater valve or the secondary heater pump

When power is applied to the needle and seat mechanism. stays closed til the engine heats up, than it opens up like a normal non electric thermostat that many others car manufacturers use...why did BMW have to be so different? lol.

Mine is stuck open and I’ve already replaced it and I was wondering what if I put jb weld over that small circle would that help it close ???!

they're a failure point from what I've been told. It's electronic I wouldn't modify it
