Excellent demo and summary of this plane Adam! Thank you for your continued contributions to the hobby.
Thank you GB!
Adam - you have done a very good presentation and demonstration of this little aircraft and what it can do - left nothing out - I did especially like your examples on what is different between this and the TOYS
Thanks Martyn! I've had a few of the toys...ugh!
A perfect aircraft for a beginner and a well judged package overall and just the sort of thing that, if available when I was young, would've been a dream come true to own. Another great Team Model AV8R production!
Thank you Gina! Boy, you said it! I literally day dreamed about RC planes that could actually fly well that were as small as my Cox .049 plastic U control planes. I never thought it would be possible. Look at us now!
The duet was my fist aeroplane with moving control surfaces.
Good selection for it's target audience.
Love this little plane
a great gift for a first time pilot or something simple to just enjoy ...👍
Thankyou sir,for your break down.Very beneficial.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent presentation sir!! As an old hobbyist, I just ordered it to teach friends and family!!
Thank you sir! That is excellent, passing the hobby on.
A great deal for beginners Adam and a very nice review 😀👍
Thanks Ian!
I like small planes too I could sit in the chair and fly lol good video Adam and my new flight is now posted see what you think☺🛩🛩👍👍
Ha! Yeah this would be a great chair flyer Frank! I watched the Futura vid! So glad it is sorted out!
Thank You😀😃😄@@ModelAV8RChannel
Really good review or a great gift idea for the first time pilot. Enjoyed watching.
Thanks Tug. I hope this little thing gets many interested in the hobby!
Good discussion of entry level models with a fine display following. ( I wish one of these little pups would grow up to become a Dehavilland Mosquito. )
Thanks! Man...so do I! Love the Mossy.
Great Duet demonstration. There was a Dad and young son that would come to the park and fly the Duet. He would get so excited flying and flew well. With safe now we should have more new flyers experience successful RC flights. Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff! Yes sir...passing on the hobby like you do my friend!
Sounds like model railroad.
I bought a $ 10 glider and put a couple of motors on it. It is only 2 channel but works. Lands very well just glides down.
How much did you Totaly
Spend
@Poggers42 I did 2 versions the first I bought a drone for parts which was another $25 and hot glue + gun $10.so about $ 45 on that one
The second I bought the little yellow X81 for $ 38 for the bits, so totally about $ 90
The one made from the X81 is easier to fly
I just ordered this to keep on hand for family members when they ask to fly one of my planes. Hopefully I can get ,y girlfriend flying with it too.
That is awesome man. Paying the hobby forward is the way to go! Hopefully your gal will dig it...
I wish this had been around 10 years ago!
Yep, would have been cool. Man you know its just so simple. I think of the planes I fly today...advanced stuff with all kinds of bells and whistles. If the Duet had been around when I was a kid...holy cow that would have been something! Sometimes I think advanced pilots take for granted how exciting it is for a beginner to simply get one up and down with sucess.
I just bought myself one with 4 extra batteries.
Congratulations Justin! Enjoy it!
Greetings from Canberra ACT ( think Washington DC) So well explained and demo’d Adam. Does the updated model have brushless motors? ✔️✔️✔️
Hey Noel! Thanks bro! No, still brushed. Still 79.99 though, which is surprising, but good!
I have this plane on back order. Apparently Horizon Hobby got overwhelmed with orders. LOL.
I am curious if the S2 will bind to a Spektrum 6e transmitter ?? I like the feel of it as I've played with springs and things. I would assume I could use a switch for SAFE ?? Anyway, it will be a challenge to see if I can program the 6e for differential thrust...hmmm... we'll see as soon as I get it in.....
I'm not sure, but if you can the differential thrust is pre-programmed in the board of the plane and is controlled by the aileron channel. You just set it up as normal plane, 1 Ail, conventional tail, and you should be good to go. Elevator and Diff Thrust will be on the right gimbal, and throttle on the left. This is assuming you fly mode 2.
Can you use the Duet controller with another aircraft? Also, would this be THE choice for around $100? How does this compare to something like an Echine warbird?
You can, but if this is something someone decides to really get into, a more modern fuller featured TX is a must. I have only flown one Echine warbird (P-40). It was ok, but not on par with the E-flite UMX planes. I think this is much better for a first time flyer that is on the fence about do they or don't they want to fly RC. If they know they do already, I'd say spend the money and get the Apprentice STOL.
Good video, i have the DUET 1, the first one,, and ... How can i fly it without assistance, all manual mode? THANKS for your help.
Thanks. On the V1 I don't think there is an all manual mode.
thanks.@@ModelAV8RChannel
It’s listed as “preorder” at Horizon Hobby. Do you know when it’s supposed to be released?
They have been on the way for a bit, so HH says in two weeks they should be shipping.
I can't couple the plane to the included controller do you know how to?
Covered in your manual, page 12 under "binding".
@@ModelAV8RChannel thank you i found it before you told me but still thanks
How does it steer? Is this only thrust differential? so no steerable gliding?
Even with the throttle gimbal all the way off, if you move the yaw axis gimbal to turn it will activate a bit of throttle to turn you.
Ok thanks@@ModelAV8RChannel
Is it EPO or EPS
I think its EPS.
@@ModelAV8RChannel thats a pity, I tried an EPS UMX. Eggshells seem stronger. My old EPO UMX sport cub is a tough brid. Wish the new ones were EPO.
The old UM Sport Cub S is EPS. The new UMX Apprentice STOL is the first EPO UMX plane from Horizon.
@@ModelAV8RChannel I stand corrected, guess the sprot cub is EPS, but in comparision to the UMX A10, UMX Twin Otter, it's way tougher. The A10 I had wore the underside away in a few hours of grass landings, and the twin otter I tried, broke into bits taking it out of the box. There must be a difference. Would be great to see some strenght tests on the different models.... Idea for a future video...
Leo it is a danged if you do, danged if you don't situation. Lol. They make these UMX planes from EPS as a general rule because it is lighter. At this size range grams make a difference in flight performance. Not as strong as EPO though. I've been flying the UM's for years so I'm used to it, but you just have to remember to handle them with a bit more patience and care, kind of like a plastic display model. With the A-10 that was a bit of an issue. Needed to be plastic skid plates on the bottom. We fixed that by putting clear Scotch tape on the parts that were contacting on a belly landing. With the new 3s power on these, we could see more out of EPO in the future. With the Apprentice STOL they made it just a tiny bit bigger (more wing area) and gave it a stronger 2s power system. Very durable for a beginner.
