Great review , i love to upgrade to 40 ultrawide . i understand that you said too big for you , same like the 43" 16:9 monitor that i had , it's too big for me to operate at desk distance , but after i change to 31.5 16:9 , now i was attract by 40" ultrawide . i think i more on buying than productivity .
I too have a LG 42” 4K 16:9. Which at half the times for my needs is too tall. And i find myself straining my neck. I sit ~ 8 inches away , I also have the 34” ultra wide (Flat). I can see some pixelation. I just ordered the LG 40” 5K , i hope this is the prefect monitor
I like that you talked about feeling 'over-stimulated'. That's something that I hadn't considered in my search for an ultrawide. Frankly, I'd been looking between 34 inches / 38 / 49. This is the first 40 incher that I'd really watched a video about. I think I'll rule out that 49" now. Thanks
I have the Dell version of the and it is a great monitor. The Dell version has a full dock in the back with USB and Ethernet over Thunderbolt and 90w power.
Amazing final thought. Deciding between this and DualUp (similar industry too, i.e building, so I too view construction dwgs etc.). But mostly Spreadsheets. I need clarity (since using a retina screen on my MacBook, there is no going back)
Nice review. For the productivity, I personally found 3 27” monitors were the best. But for media consumption, the ultrawide was the best. For gaming, for me a single 32” monitor was the best. Not easy to have one set up for all. If forced with one set up for all, I’d still go with 3 monitors.
Having tried a variety of setups, what seems to work the best for me is having a single 27" 4k monitor that I will connect to my MacBook in clamshell mode. I like the simplicity of just having 1 cable connect ethernet, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, charging and it's fast to switch between my work/personal MacBooks. I use a dual arm monitor mount and one of the arms holds the MacBook with a VESA mount attachment.
5k2k! Great review again! That magnets app seems perfect for large monitors like this. Bummer the monitor didn’t quite work out the way you wanted it to though.
5k2k! I think it comes down to how far you sit from the monitor and your use case. I sit a bit far from the monitor, and I need a bit more horizontal space than a 32in 16:9 4k monitor gives me - I often want four windows (mix of word, acrobat, browser usually) open at once and that’s a little too crammed on the 32in. With the extra width here, I assume it would fit perfectly. I think if I sat closer, one of the 5k2k 34in monitors would do it. The Dual Up looks really cool, but is all wrong for my workflow. When you work in US letter aspect ratio documents all day (or sometimes A4 aspect ratio), yeah, wrong aspect ratio.
Nice review! What is the actual resolution you are using this monitor with? My understanding is that if you use the native 5K resolution things look very tiny on a Mac. Thanks!
They need to release this as a glossy screen, either with a QD-OLED MLA panel or MiniLED with QD layer. We need HDR1600 and Dolby Vision for movies! 120 Hz would be nice
Its the perfect size.. i used to use a 43 inch tv now i am using a 55 inch tv which is a bit too big.. this is exactly what i need but the brightness seems low
@@DDHDTV I ended up buying the 40WP95 anyway b/c I was able to get it for almost half the price, sold my 38" and effectively paid 200 Euro for the upgrade. :) Now I can wait for OLED.
I totally get what you are saying about it being just too big. I totally feel I’d have the same issue of being ultra distracted. It looks amazing but it would make me wanna set up a game console with PiP and probably not get an ounce of work done. Probably just a tad smaller and it’d be a little less distracting. I just think for this price point, only 300 nits of brightness is a huge let down. For me it’s between this monitor, the Samsung viewfinity s9 and the Apple studio display. The S9 is on sale in my country for half the price of the Apple. I’m trying to convince myself to save $1000 and just get the s9. The things that annoy me about the s9 is I will not be able to control brightness or volume at the push of a button. Will need to pick up the remote control and go through a few menus just to do that. I’m also really attracted to a glossy glass display over a matte display. But still, to save literally $1000 after taxes by going with the s9 is too good an offer to refuse. And that’s with both the s9 and studio display on sale.
Hello Jon, I noticed if I turn on "Thunderbolt Out On" is limited to 50hz if I turn off the "Thunderbolt Out Off," it goes back to 72hz. Are you seeing the same problem?
Do you know if the KVM has the possibility of 2 dual monitor setups? I'd assume the 96v usbc input would be able to take the 2 feeds from that, then have a second 2 monitor input using hdmi/display port. Let me know if you've tried this. Thanks!
I had this monitor but ended up returning it. It was great... until the flicker started. I would have worked through thee issue, but there are too many others having the same issue and I shouldn't have to deal with this type of problem on a monitor this expensive.
@@Docbpa My first one that flickered was from Amazon ...I decided to orde another this time from Best Buy and it had more packaging and stuff which leads me to believe mine was a shady refurb on Amazon but anyways my second screen is working amazing months later no issues
Dude this thing is a monster! I recently upgraded from a 24" 4K Dell to this, and I probably need to sit farther to not notice the pixelated texts...(it's a trade off, and I don't know which one is more important to me, more space or the resolution - being a Macbook Pro M1 user - so let's see...) I was also considering using a monitor arm, but this thing is so heavy that I was afraid it plus the arm will bend my desk 😂(I have to use the clamp but not grommet bc it's not in the middle!) Is it a valid concern at all?
Great review. Thinking of getting this monitor as well. Basically looks like a 32" 4k with about 4 inches more on each side. I had a 34 ultrawide before. I liked it for coding using visual studio. You can just see so much more of the code. So this looks like a good upgrade. How does games look on the 72hz? I don't play many mostly just older MMO's.
could you comment a bit on the curvature of the monitor? especially for photographer and architectural design work, does it affect your perspective on straight lines and scales?
I don't understand dividing the screen into equal parts. I have everything in the middle as a stack and I switch between applications and always use the best and most convenient part of the screen.
Can you set up two laptops to the single monitor? If so, can you also use one keyboard and mouse to navigate between the two laptops and single monitor? Thanks!
@@JonImperial Thanks. I never use 5k full resolution, text too tiny. Currently scaled down one step from max, which is comfortable on the eyes. However I now wonder if a 5k2k screen would work okay considering how I'm using my iMac now...
I just bought this. I don't have it yet. But my biggest concern is the text sharpness and pixelation and fuzziness. I've heard bad things about Mac scaling.

34 ultra wide would have been perfect if they were made taller (more vertical resolution), something like 3440x2160. I had 38 ultra wide before, even that I think it’s too wide, I can imagine how 40” 5k2k gonna be like
