    Hello there! Your video caught my eye since I have been looking for LED lights lately.
    My birthday is coming up so I decided to treat myself with some LED lights to stick onto the top of my ceiling.
    They’re coming in soon, I am really excited!

      Hello Eldad, thank you very much. I am glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate the support. I usually let the negative go. I took this more as a character attack. I want to be a trusted source for information. I try to do the right thing with sharing my thoughts on products. Not trying to be a salesman. Just sharing the tech that excites me with others who are into tech. I am often positive towards products because I research before I buy. I often buy good stuff because of that. Or in this case I reached out to a company I like to get their product to review because they make great stuff. Thanks for your comment and continued support. Have a great Friday.

    Hey Craig! Good video as usual! You make a good balance of covering enough information without dragging it out or rushing it.
    I really like the "white light" setting at about 7:05. It still shows the background clearly, but allows the camera to focus more on you. (NO! I'm NOT flirting!) Perhaps this setting could be used if you are doing a review of upcoming products where you would overlay a web page on the screen. Would give great depth to the scene.
    Hope all is well! Looking forward to Karl's live stream tomorrow night & your's Friday!

I want everyone to make it to the end to see how these light actually luck. I had fun playing with these and and am happy to have them.
      I like what you're saying about the white light setting. I do like the way that looks on camera. It is a clean look and gives some good depth. I am actually thinking for my next Echo video of using your idea. I want to do some overlaying of information and that would be the perfect look for it. Thank you for the suggestion. Thank you also for watching and all of your support.

    I have 2 LIFX bulbs and they work great. I also purchased the LIFX Z Strip and loved it so much I ordered 2 more strips to light under my kitchen cabinets. It all worked great. Then a couple of months later - one of the strips went bad. At 3:30 am - the entire string began to flash colors, which woke us up. Not good. I went through the process of ordering a warranty replacement, which is time consuming - since LIFX doesn't have a phone number to call. After working through their maze of "support" - I was finally told I would be receiving an email with the shipping info for my replacement. I never received that email, and after about a month of waiting - I , once again, had to get in touch with the "Store" at LIFX. They finally shipped the replacement which had to come from Hong Kong, and after many weeks - It arrived. So far - so good. But now I question the quality of this product and not confident that another strip will not go bad. So the bulbs are great (so far) but the Z-strip - well the jury is still out - and hopefully that jury will not be woken in the middle of the night due to poor quality. I assume MADE IN CHINA.

    Hi, Craig! I just upgraded to the newer Lifx full color bulbs, the new ones that work with Homekit. Love them! Q: With the individual strips, can you 'segment' the strips into areas with specific colors? I know they can pulse different colors, but I'm wondering how the app splits them up, or even if it does. Hope that made sense, and thanks for the videos!

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello CJC, glad to hear you got the color bulbs and are loving them. They make great bulbs. Yes you can break up the color in 6" increments. I should have covered that in the app. The video was getting a little long. In the app there are two options for creating a multi color strip. You have the fill section that will turn the whole strip one color. Then you can.swipe to paint. From paint you can pick a color and tap where on the strip you want that color. You could make every other 6" segment a color for a 2 color combination. You can make every 6" a different color. Or some combination in between. You can even have the colors you pick move along the strip for a slow effect. I should do a follow up on the app after in he LIFX beam video. Thanks for your question and watching. Have a great day.

      @@CraigsTechTalk Cool! And thanks for your fast reply, Craig! About 2 years ago I setup non-wifi - but remote controlled - strips. The 30-40 dollar Amazon sells. They're stuck behind each of my stereo/turntable shelves and really look great......but now I really wish I could Siri the (&*& out of them!! But....I'll have to wait. The IR remote works okay, and I'd have to see if running LED strips top-bottom along the shelf rails would have the same effect. Now each shelf edge facing wall is dasy-chained with an extender that leads to the next shelf. Works great for positioning the lights. Anyway, thanks again! You do great home tech videos!

    Hi Craig. I love watching your videos and I learn a lot from them. I am wondering if you can guide me a little, I would surely appreciate it. I am wanting to put strip lights under three kitchen cabinets that are separate & only about 22 inches wide each, and I want to get a set to put behind my other TV so I was thinking I could get a set for my TV, cut off the excess and use it for the under cabinet lights but I need the power adapters and connectors or whatever I need... I can’t seem to find that. These in your video are too expensive for me. I have the lights in mind I want as I have some already for one of my TVs, it’s the Govee brand. For the kitchen I can just plug them into smart plugs to control with Alexa. I don’t need them to do anything fancy just a bright cool white light! Thanks again for all your wonderful videos. Hi Craig! I bought a couple of LIFX mini based on your advice and I’m really happy with them. Do you think that the strips could work as sufficient light source to read/work if I put them under a bookshelf to light a desk where I work? Thanks!

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mariano, That is great to hear that you're enjoying the LIFX mini bulbs. I am glad to hear that. I think they're great bulbs but I would hate to lead anybody astray.
      I think they would be bright enough if they were on a shelf facing down on a desk. One 6.6' starter kit is the same output as 1.75 times the output of one LIFX mini bulb. The mini is 800 lumens and the strip is 1400 lumens. It is spread over 6'. But coming down from a shelf I would think the would be plenty bright.
      My suggestion so I don't lead you astray would be to buy them from a best buy or some place you could possibly return them. I would do a trial fit and hold them or temporarily tape them at the height of the shelf. You don't even have to set them up in the app. They will come up to full warm white when plugged in. If you dont like it and your not satisfied you return it. I personally dont return much, but I am trying to embrace the idea if something doesnt do what I need it to. Sometimes even the Amazon return is worth paying the shipping or $8 - $10 to know if it is a good product for you. Better than just sticking with it.
      I hope this helps some. I pulled out my desk 2 feet and feel I could read comfortably with the output. Thanks for questioning and sharing your thoughts on the LIFX mini. It's good to have some second opinions. Have a great Friday.

I would like to put a set of LEDs on the right side of my stove and another one on the left side. Is there a way of connecting both sides with wires that I would hide inside my cabinets instead of connecting both sides with LED strips and have the inside of my cabinets light up?

    Hi Craig 👋🏻 I understand that you can control different sections of Z LED Strip by assigning different colors to them. Could you switch some of those sections off and leave just one of them lit up and dimmed to 1%. I’d like to use it as nightlight in my hallway and want those to be as dimmed as possible. Same question applies to Lifx Beam.

    • @CraigsTechTalk

I have now subscribed to your channel! I watched this video and then went to Amazon.ca (I live in Canada) to order this lighting. However, the reviews on Amazon are abysmal regarding the adhesive strips on these lights. One review said that the lighting fell down after a few weeks and took paint off the wall.....are you able to please comment or follow-up on these Z-Strips you put up in this video if your experience was different? How many LIFX bulbs do you have in one area? When my parents switched to smart lighting I recommended that they go with Hue as they wanted 26 individual bulbs in their main room (12 in total GU10s on the ceiling, four 1M strips, 7 GU10 coloured bulbs, and a few others), then 15 individual lights in their kitchen (9 2m strips, 6 GU10s). Having 41 wifi devices (50+ when you take into account other things) in one area just seemed like it would cause far too much congestion, and the setup for large systems like that doesn't seem as developed with LIFX. Bring on 802.11x/WiFi 6.
    I ask because now I'm considering my own setup, whether to go with LIFX or Hue. I won't have anywhere near as many lights, but would e.g. 15 potentially even cause issues? How many do you have and have you had many/any issues?

      Chinese Fat Nuts Thanks for the reply. I bought one probably the next day after writing my original response. I like them, but what I don’t like is that you can’t bend them around corners, at least not with them staying flat. If you want to just lay them straight across horizontally or vertically , it’s fine. But if you want them to be shaped like a square, you can’t cut them and reattach them or anything. Once you cut a piece off, it can’t be reused.

    Can you do a video on integrating this Alexa and Google Home? And how does it work with say motion sensors? Controlling lights via an app on your phone is so passé and inconvenient. True home automation is when you can use your voice to activate it. Thanks

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can put them into routines and activate the lights individually, as a group or a scene that is created. Other than using your voice for scenes or intensity, I don’t think either assistant does well with colors. I call up scenes all the time with Siri and use motion sensors to turn on the lights when I walk in the room.

      Try pressing the button on the remote/power supply. That should have it check all the strips connected. If you don’t see white light move along the whole length, then it is not seeing that strip and something physically wrong. But if you plug a strip into a strip that thinks it only has one strip, the second one will not light up.
