Had to order a special 3 pin connector and solder it to fix the second half of the RGBIC addressable LED’s I have. You can cut the crap out of standard RGB+ LED 4-pin light strip lights much easier than 3 pin smart LED’s like I have. Mine also respond to sound and have crazy color patterns though, the troubles were worth it to me. That and the fact I have multiple colors available on the same LED strip, that’s pretty dope. The DIY mode ghves me great control over the lights and they are actually much brighter than I imagined. They were easy to set up and they are powered off the USB port on my TV! The adhesive feels very strong, the colours are vibrant and the app is so easy to use. I'm extremely satisfied. No way am I shelling out $100+ for another brand that is only marginally better on paper.

I have both LIFX and Govee strips and I prefer the Govee strips. Here's why: The DIY feature in the Govee app definitely gives a creative person more options for effects. I agree that the LIFX is brighter because there are more LEDs per strip. The app for Govee is SO much better. I use both of these strips and Bluetooth is so much quicker and so much more reliable than the network-only option with the LIFX strips. The LIFX app just doesn't connect to my network very quickly. I bought the LIFX strips for my kids' bedrooms and added Govee strips to complete the room. I use Govee strips in my classroom at (school) work. Kids love being able to pick between the many, many DIY themes I've created. The LIFX app just doesn't make it easy to create and keep custom schemes. The Govee app is super simple.

So I need a sync box ect. If I bought the LIFX strips and stuck them to the TV would I be able to use these with the Lytmi Neo HDMI 2.0 sync box using there App, I hope this isn't a silly question but I know very little about LEDs and watching your videos yes the LIFx are by far a superior product than the LEDs that come with all the other products I have seen here on TH-cam. I live in Ireland so I would have to order online anyway, the only thing you can buy here is the Hue system. Thank you for this video. I am curious if your comparison of the brightness is done using equal lengthed strips, for example at 7:50 are both the Govee and Lifx strip the same length? It is my understanding that the longer the strip the power is spread out to more bulbs and hence less brightness, wondering how much that plays into the results reflected in the video. If the Lifx strip is only one meter and the Govee strip is 5, it could be noticeably less bright.

Hello, I had 2 meters of LiFX. there is no way, short of buying 5 meters of Lifx for $200 plus dollars for me to check that. I have not heard that the Lifx suffer from dimming over longer lengths. They are rated for a certain amount over the power supply. On my desk I have 3 meters of Lifx and the look as bright as the 2 meters I used for the demo. With my professional LED experience, you still get what you are paying for. Better and brighter LEDs cost more. I have seen the compromise in what is listed as like wattage LED bulbs. But it is something worth looking deeper into. Thanks for watching.

@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for your reply, and again for the video. I think you are right about how they are rated, etc., somehow the transformers know how much to dish out over the available length of wire. I did not mean to doubt the testing process, LiFX is clearly the better quality product, you can delete my comment if you wish, I think your video makes it clear. It could be part of the reason they are manufactured in shorter sections, using better quality wire and LEDS. Perhaps a slower manufacturing process. Today I ordered the Govee rgbic to mess around with in a 10x15 sunroom. If these RGBIC LEDS really are mesmerizing I'll upgrade to LiFX and stick the Govee behind a mirror or some other less traveled/viewed place in my humble abode.

Hello L Dlink, I appreciate your comment. I think that is a great thing to think about and to mention. As someone that works with power with the industry I am in, there is voltage drop over a distance. How it affects LED strips is something I don’t know about. Your comment may make someone loom deeper into a comparison if they are going to do a long run of LEDs. I definitely think the power drop over large amounts of LEDs plays a part with the Govee strips. To me that is proven by them putting the power supply in the middle of the 32’ kit they sell. I think it is great to try out the Govee strips. If they don’t give you what you want, like you said you can go with LifX and move the Govee else. Thank you for the nice comment and food for thought. Have a great night.

@@CraigsTechTalk I totally agree, and you are right about the power supply in the middle, that's why I would opt for two 16 footers over the 32. For me it is not a matter of Govee not giving me what I want, it is more proving that yes, I need color changing lights in my life. Kind of like someone who doesn't own a car or who has never driven one, and has been getting along fine without it, but decides maybe it could be nice, and even if money was not an issue, the person is practical and they'd might jump into the water with a Chevy Spark as opposed to a Tesla S. So, I'm ready for this life changing experience-ha. I would agree with you but for most people they don't need the lights to be at 100 percent brightness. Lifx brigtness and saturation is overkill for most uses. Govee is good enough in saturation and brightness. What stands out about the lifx is the app; it is definitely better then the Govee.

I know this is old but I have a lifx bulb and that app was the worst thing imaginable. It's not even just the layout of the settings but I couldn't get the bulb to connect to anything for weeks. The app also didn't connect to Google home assistant so I had to use a 3rd party app for a while until it could connect. At least it eventually worked and I'm happy with it (mostly because I only use voice commands instead of the app)

I invested in LIFX for my home office after seeing your earlier reviews. The 4 sets of bulbs I purchased have worked flawlessly. I installed 2 sets of Z strips one for a Karlby desktop and the other on a monitor. Both sets developed a fault after a couple weeks. Basically if I set a colour, a small section of the strip would display the wrong colour. For example, when the entire strip is green, one portion displays red. According to the LIFX forums, this is a known issue. So, I returned both sets for refund and purchased a replacement set. Just have the one running now on the desktop. Working OK at the moment but will have to see how it holds up. Not great considering they are meant to be a superior product.

If you set the color to slightly blue, yes, but it can do all the warmer kelvin colors. I have two of the dream strips and the 2.0 TV strip and both can be a warm incandescent color (which I have them set at when it’s late at night and I’m not watching TV or gaming). I have one of the dreamstrips running the underside of our platform bed in my bedroom. I didn’t actually need to get that one but I already had it (intending to use it on our living room TV) but I use it to simulate sunrise/sunset and turn off/on at certain times.
To be fair though, I also use the lifX day/dusk bulbs in several rooms of my house and I really like them and they are priced more failrly than their RGB bulbs and they do a GREAT incandescent warm color and can dim REALLY low lumen vs some cheaper Wifi bulbs I’ve tried.

So you are spot on. Lifx is definitely the more premium light strip and a person could connect the modules needed to do what the govee strip does with music but the govee is where most people (especially in this economy) fall in terms of price. Ibwould l9ve to be able to out fit my apartment in lifx but that would cost thousands of dollars at lifx's price point. Lifx seems to have more leds per meter which results in more saturation. But govee give you much more length which is also important for coverage and im in more need of coverage which does give good saturation that say a few meters of brilliant but very localized light coverage.
I'm not against companies making money at all but I am against being taken advantage of. Led lighting is very common place in our world and very cheap to make at high quality comparatively to past quality and price points. 70$ that cost maybe 10 to manufacture where the leds aren't even the most expensive part is ridiculous. Look at cree leds, some of the brightest in the world and very cost effective.
There is a reason why Walmart is the biggest corp. People look at price first. Is it worth what I'm getting and even if inhad the money it would hurt me to think I spent thousands of dollars on tech that cost literally pennies to make. Come on. It's a led for gods sake not a smart phone. It shouldn't cost as much as one to light your house.
