- This is an informational overview video about Morphine. Morphine is a painkiller from the group opioids, like Fentanyl and Oxycodone. Common brand names are Maracex, Oramorph, Sendolor.
In this video I will explain when to use Morphine, how to use morphine, what dosage to use of morphine, what are the side effects of morphine, and is morphine safe to use when pregnant or while breastfeeding.
In addition I will also explain if morphine is safe to use while driving, and if morphine is safe to use with alcohol.

I've been taking it for years for moderate to severe pain due to injuries sustained in a 110mph cumulative speed head-on with a distracted driver that caused injuries consistent with someone falling 10 stories onto concrete and miraculously lived. The life it gives me back, far outweighs the side affects. If addiction is having less pain and being more productive, I'm not seeing the downside.

Big difference between addiction and physical dependence. Don't let anyone try to label you a drug addict. I'm glad it helps you. I wish I could be put on it as well. Dr's anymore dont want to treat pain, instead they want to stick people on suboxone which is horrible for pain management. Society needs to rethink their opiophobia. It's downright ridiculous and people are suffering because of it. Best wishes my friend.

Thank you doctor for the informative video. I’m currently post-op from a septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery and was informed I can ask for morphine to manage the pain. After watching your video, for me informed decision was to wait to see the pain baseline. Once I confirmed with the nurse that the morphine from surgery is worn off. I asked for normal painkillers to manage the pain.

Who else is trying it for the first time?
I am and it simply does not work on me nor does it make me feel tired ! They gave me a double dose of Oramorph following my heart double bypass and it was useless and no effect at all on me. I told the Doctors and Surgeon Consultants about it and they said it would take a "Rhino" level of Dose to work on me.
Doc giving me option to Morphine or Dilaud… been dealing with horrible back pain… 2mg Daliuds been no kind of help and I’m take four 2mg every 4 hours… any body out there have any kind of advice on maybe if I should switch to Morphine? Thanks

I've been taking morphine for years I was on the lowest dose, as well as 10/325 oxy. I though I'd be able to stop the morphine, so I told my pain doc. Man was I wrong! And my doctor should have known that! I called them, tell them I was so sick, can't see straight, not to mention how bad the pain was. The nurse told me to get to bed, and if I couldn't wait to come into the office in 4 days, then go to the ER. When I saw my pain doc again, he put me back on my same dose. Now nothing really helps, because now I need total hip replacement. Anyone out here ever had this done? I get so mad, because so many of my doctors patients don't even need drugs, which makes it harder for us, the people that do need strong medicine. Sorry to go on so much, but have been put through hell, it took me a year after I move, and a year it took to get an new doctor!!!!!! this is insane! I had to go to the ER, the new primary doctor, I went to wouldn't even give anything for pain or anxiety. Most people that suffer from chronic pain, does need something to help them relax and be able to sleep! Now my pain doctor can't give me anymore xanax. because it's not proven by the FDA for pain, such idiots! I have pain, and not suppose to get stressed out. I switched to another doctor and told her my situation , she had no problem giving me xanax, of course the next time I went in, she moved to an office closer to home. I've had it with doctors! Most just don't give a damn, so now I just order it. I can go on and on, no worries, this ends now................ stay safe everyone
Its getting pretty ridiculous, they treat anyone on opiates as if they're drug addicts. It's a shame.
I think quality of life far outweighs physical dependence. I hope things change for the better as many people are suffering because of their strict regulations. I despise the us government, FDA, DEA, etc for the way they're treating chronic pain patients. The regulations in this country are absolutely asinine. They don't care about us at all.
dilaudid should work better but it depends.

I disagree. PO morphine takes far too long to take effect, especially after or during eating food, and as a result the patient may take several times the prescribed dose. IM is also a bit inefficient. I am for educating patients to utilize IV injection of a precise dose. Pain relief is virtually instantaneous.
U right i take oramorph and when take orally idk when starts but when intravenous it's after 5 seconds but problem is it's not for intravenous use.BTW it's in liquid form botell 20mg/ml.1ml is 20mg morphine
yeah, but addiction risk is 1000x higher when taking iv. thats most likely the reason to take it orally, as the „rush“ does not appear in most cases.
Is it necessary to give drinks or water after giving morphine liquid buccally?
probably because of the drying effects of morphine= pure constipation with it,, but will give better absorbtion rectal method. maybe not nessecary but sounds helpful.
i want my dr to change my pain meds from ms contin 100 mg to equalgesic dose hydromorphone. this stuff not working so well no more and ive never ask ect but i will.

do you mean 230 milligrams of methadone,? or millilitres? the amount of millilitres you’re on is kind of irrelevant, the only important part is the amount of milligrams. millilitres is just the amount of liquid you’re drinking (assuming it’s in a liquid drink form) but the amount of methadone(milliGRAMS) in the liquid, is not related to the amount of milliLITRES of liquid you’re drinking. for example, I am on methadone too, my prescribed daily dose is 60milligrams of methadone in 100millilitres of juice. but the ‘100millilitres’ part is irrelevant. when a doctor or somebody asks me what my dosage of methadone is, I don’t say ‘100 millilitres’ , I say 100 milligrams. it sounds like you’ve just mixed up the two, MG(milligrams) and ML(millilitres). so based on my assumption, it sounds like you’re on 230mg (milligrams) of methadone. It could be that your solution ratio is 1mg per ml. so 1mg of methadone in every 1 millilitre of your drink, therefore both the milligrams AND millilitres equaling 230. you’d have to read the label on the bottle. But to answer your question, assuming you’re prescribed a dose of 230mg of methadone daily, that is an extremely high dose , and methadone is already exponentially more portent than morphine... in normal cases where the subject is only taking a single dose of methadone one time to compare the two, & hasn’t been taking it everyday, it is about 3 times stronger than morphine, meaning that IF you’d only taken your 230mg ONCE, you’d need about 700mg of morphine to even reach the same effect as that dose of methadone did.... & that would only last you for a few hours , whereas the methadone lasts 24hours. so this is definitely a terrible choice to convert to from your current dose of methadone. not to mention the fact that there is a much greater factor for methadone’s potency if it is taken chronically (everyday, which it sounds like you do) because it builds up & accumulates in your system since it stays in your system for such a long time... so if you’ve been taking it everyday, the factor goes up & up as the dose increases... so if you’ve been taking methadone everyday for awhile, 10mg of methadone = 30-40mg of morphine, 20mg methadone = about 80mg of morphine, 30mg methadone = 240mg morphine....you see where this is going,? this goes up ALL THE WAY to the point of your current dose (if you’ve been taking it everyday for awhile) of 230mg of methadone, requiring a WHOPPING, RIDICULOUS, unrealistic as hell, dose of 2760mg of morphine..! yes, you read that right. 2,760mg. two thousand, seven hundred and sixty milligrams. NOT POSSIBLE!
sorry for the long ass reply, I just wanted to be real thorough & specific so you completely understood, & didn’t do anything dangerous based off of information I gave you that got you confused. PLUS I just know a lot about opioids & their dosages, PARTICULARILY methadone, as i’ve taken it everyday for the past 6-7yrs, and morphine for years before that..! but yeah, DONT BOTHER trying to switch from methadone to morphine, or really, to ANY other opioid that is THAT much weaker than the one you’re currently on. it is a huge waste of time & usually not possible or realistic, anyway..! your doctor would tell you the same..! Hope this helps!

Usually the procedure is quite painless because the dentist uses sufficient anesthesia. Therefore patients usualy only take paracetamol. But you can ask your dentist for advice.

They take all 4 wisdom teeth at once , in surgery and u get advil to take afterwards, not opioids

I cant believe I cant get pain medications anymore with the new crack down even after all my surgeries and 15 years of use.... I just dont k ow what to do.
To be clear not 15 years of morphine. I actually only used it for about 6 months. 40mg extended release 2x daily with 10mg oxycodone 3x a day for break through pain. If I took my perc 10s I was fine if I just took morphine I was still in pain. Why?

Pain medication is very very hard to get now. This medical system is broken. However, it is extremely easy to see a doctor and have them put you on Buprenorphine (Suboxone). Buprenorphine is a great pain management medication.
Jamey Summers you’re right & a lot of people don’t know about bupenorphine for chronic pain . Check out Belbuca . It is a dissolving strip used for round the clock pain relief. A lot of ppl think it’s only for addiction but bupenorphine without naloxone comes in a pain patch or oral strip that is very effective. I’m going to be trying that instead of the oral tablets due to my Crohn’s disease and spinal cord injury pain.

Louise Barker I can understand how bad you feel cus I’ve been in much pain I do understand we feel pain at different levels but it still boils down to one thing which is discomfort. My mom have cancer and the doctor prescribed it for her now to take and we totally against giving her, this medication to my knowledge side effect is not one of my comfort, she is on a low dose of 10mg and she need to take it every 12hrs, I tell her caregiver to give her one today and let’s see what happen... she did not eat dinner, she said she is not hungry, she said she feel sleepy so I tell them not another one until two days time... and watch her... I know she in pain but dear God, why should I in agreement to killing her before her time ... 😭😭😭😭😭
