I understand the whole "to each his own" thing, but ,seriously,he's an awesome fuckin drummer,period. I wonder if the few people on here are in bands,let alone big touring bands? Are you as good as he is? Do you guys blast even half as good as does? Can you blast? Can you "explore every inch" of YOUR kits? Do you even play drums? I do, and i'm NOT saying i'm the best drummer in the world (not even close),but i take drumming,and music,very seriously. I actually explore every piece of my kit,and have a blast doing it. I played in a band who had the honor of sharing a stage with them, sat less than 10 feet from francesco when he played, THE DUDE IS NASTY!!!!!!! There live sound is close to that in the video.which means that maybe they did fuck with the recording,who fuckin cares? awesome band,and great live!!! ok i'm done...
justyn saunders Admitting his talent is one thing, asking people to praise him just because they can't play like him is another. Them being capable of playing drums just as good is irrelevant to whether they should praise him or not. You can't just go around forcing people to see the world from your point of view. P.s: Boasting about how good you are is just a dickish move.
@Surly Wookie you realize at the time of this video he only had been playing drums for 4-5 years? In that small amount of time to be able to compose drums to stuff like this is nothing short of incredible

And yeah maybe he doesn't use every single inch of his kit like people are pointing out, but still, beeing able to drum like that after only like 2-3 years of practice is just plain ridiculous. Francesco IS a fuckin beast tbh. He's back on vocal and guitar now and also got some serious injuries after a climbing incident recently from what I heard... Can't even imagine how crazy he would be if he was still drumming in 10 years from now. O_o
Kevin Anderson he's using a double pedal and heel toe technique. They are called double strokes. He's not cheating at all either like some think. He's also only been playing for around 5 or 6 years

Great double bass technique, hands down to that. But I agree with some comments below me. He doesn't explore everything on his drumset. Same goes with George Kollias. Fast as hell, great double bass but Kollias does the same drum fill in every song. Paoli's different, he changes things, he has some great fills but, still, he doesn't have that much off his drum kit. Lombardo, former Slayer drummer, explore every single inch of his drum set. Again, great play, awesome music. Just my opinion.
It's the point of their style of drumming. I really don't like it when people dissect things and become obsessed with what is NOT happening. Both Fleshgod Apocalypse and Nile most recent albums didn't have 260bpm+ blasting for 50 minutes -- like on prior albums. I also do not understand why a lot of extreme metal fan exaggerate and become obsessed with trivial details in a certain musician. It doesn't make you enjoy the music and makes music into a competition. If you're all gung-ho and serious about extreme metal drummers lacking creativity then look up Origin and Cryptopsy. Not all death metal drummers are 260 bpm blasting with traditional blast beats as filler.
Matt W I dunno I suppose a person is welcome to analyse what's going on If that's what they want to do. Everyone enjoys the performance in their own particular way. I think there is a significant element that the extreme end of the spectrum doesn't really lend itself to what we would recognise as creative or having feel in quite the same way. First priority it has to fit with what the other people in the band are playing, hold the tempo etc. the fills have to be in keeping with the rest of the song and the other instruments. Lombardo is amazing, I love his playing and style, along with Terry Bozzio, Ian Paice and various others. From a different genre check out the beat from the first half of "Genetix" by "The Stranglers", user "alokla777". Fitting and unusual but I really don't see that working out too well in an extreme metal band.
I completely disagree. Lombardo's playing in slayer is more formulaic and straight forward like a lot of thrash. Especially when comparing it to the amazing technical playing that Kollias puts into Nile. George can do anything, he just writes what's appropriate for the song.
Ok,this is my opinion...Francesco is a beast at drums...no more words...BUT George Kollias...He is insanely technical and fast(maybe the fastest drummer on planet right now) and he can groove in the kit while playing in very high tempos remaining calm
