@James B yes, you are correct regarding the hear rate. At least for me. I do run frequently and did multiple half marathons. I used to wear a chest strap during live shows with Belphegor (actually the footage that's shown in this video) and I would monitor my heart rate. On an average during a 70-80 minutes long show I would have a heart rate somewhere between 130 bpm (slow stuff) and up to 175 bpm at faster songs. Usually would burn somewhere around 800-1200 calories. Although not entirely sure how accurate would that be. When I am running, depending on how much in shape I am - my heart rate and amount of burnt calories is somewhat similar to what I get from a show. Again, might be pretty inaccurate but still quite interesting statistics of you ask me.
What i love about 66Samus is that he is so humble and seems so genuinely blown away, as if he isn't a God tier drummer himself!!! You're the best man!!!
I think Eugene is going to one of greats in his generation, his drumming is immaculate, and he’s already starting to influence a lot of younger drummers. Can’t wait to see how his drumming career unfolds
I can add Alex Rüdinger to the list, he also is incredible. First time I heard him was the opener of the Conquering Dystopia album and well... I thought it was a drum machine... Until I saw his playthrough for the song. I live watching his videos, and he plays different kinds of music. He can play brutal and insanely fast metal, but also a bit more chill stuff though still technical like his band Intronauts. Anyways, this batch of drummers will influence the next generations and I can't wait to see where it goes. Cheers from France! 🍻
My old band opened for Fleshgod, the club was a two story bar with a 360 degree balcony around the pit, so I went up and stood directly above him and watched him just kill the drums. It was a perfect set.
I literally got chills from him playing The Betrayal. The song is so difficult that it's never played live and Francesco Paoli himself said that he can't play that song.
@@TheJordan75 had a nice chat with him after a show once and he said he's just able to play fleshgod, nothing else. No blues, jazz, nothing else. He was a guitarist who had to learn to drum to be in this band as they didn't need another guitarist :P Nicest and super chill guy though and fuck was he consistent live

Actually, it is easier, at least for me, to use heavier sticks, like 2B’s, to go faster. I bought a pair of really light sticks once, and couldn’t play hardly at all. No matter what tho, I can’t even begin to, or even want to play at such superhuman speeds.
Tim Yeung from Divine Heresy also uses big sticks for blasting, he says it is easier to maintain the blast, I have tried this and I think with practice it works.
I last saw Eugene live in late '19 drumming for Belphegor, and his hair whips were the most insane extra aspect of his stellar performance. His reaction in reply to yours also reinforced something I've noticed- we American drummers tend to be much more silly than our European counterparts 😅 and you're our elected Emperor, Samus.

I have seen Eugene a few times live. Only other drummer that comes close to his level that I have seen live is Longstreth, He was also a machine Live, I have seen many but these two make it look effortless and perfect.
You are absolutely right! Both Eugene and John L are the .001% top level extreme drummers live. The stamina these dudes have to play a million miles and hour is almost not real.

He’s using his middle,ring and pinky fingers to roll with his left and right hand while blasting! Like a guitarist ascending triplets on the neck real fast!
Finally!! I took a lesson from him on his last run with belphegor and he completely changed my drumming. in that 2 hr lesson we covered the holy trinity of metal, skank beats, one foot blast beats and double bass particularly pressure swivel. He developed some routines for me to combat some of my issues(playing too fast and sloppy among others) and I focused on them for about 20 -30 mins a day plus 1 day of band rehearsal a week. I feel like I’m a much more confident drummer now in both hands and feet. I wish I had a bunch of content to show him some of my progress but I think there’s only 1 video on TH-cam. I have some video footage from our lesson that I never posted. It’s a short explanation of the pressure swivel but it helped me so much in understanding his version of this technique. SHOULD I POST IT?? He covers a lot of this in his videos and his videos with marthyn but I figured it might help some one as much as he helped me.
