The thing that kills me about Francesco is he had just LEARNED to play drums 2 years before this video. The drums on that whole album are 100% perfectly written
@@bobbiesmith1812 It’s true, he originally was the vocalist and rhythm guitarist but started playing drums because the band couldn’t find a steady drummer. He was playing shows with them within a year. The dude is absolutely unreal.
I also heard someone (who met him after a concert) mention that Francesco told him he doesn't even consider himself really as a drummer because he can't play anything except Fleshgod songs
Saw him live last year, but he was has the frontman playing the guitar, and they got another brand new drummer. This guy is a true role model for any metalhead that has a band, he is able to swap between the positions, this is completely amazing. And of course, the entire band is impressive, I got amused by the whole atmosphere that they can create during a live show.
It is really good that you talked about leaning forward. Iirc they had to cancel shows, because Francesco got lower back problems. You should address these things more often as these issues are often overlooked by many musicians, not just drummers. It is by no means badmouthing someone. Btw that's why i really like John Longstreth from Origin, he looks so relaxed while playing.

Awesome analysis, good catch on the lower back issue. Insane heel-toe to be that consistent at 270, where any mistakes will be highlighted by the triggers immensely. I'd love to see some analysis of Travis Orbin (his Unleash the Pwnies video to fit the theme of your channel) or Alex Rudinger (Inexhaustible Savagery or Tethys, maybe even Xenochrist). This series is awesome!
16th notes at 270 bpm = 1080 hits per minute = 18 hits per second. 18 per second. And he doesn't seem to get tired. It's mind-blowing and not many people are physically able to do that. Wow.

I talked with the bassist of this band after a show at the summer slaughter fest back in like 2011 or 2012, the bassist told me the drummer had only been playing drums for like 3 years at the time when this was filmed, dude is a monster.

He's easily one of the most technically proficient, creative and tasteful extreme metal drummers of our time and deserves more recognition than he currently gets.

one of the beast in extreme metal drumming, Francesco Paoli! he plays the guitar as great as his drumming too. Great drummer, great guitarist and great death metal vocalist too. listen to FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE latest album Veleno where he does all 3 of that because both of their guitarists have left the band. kinda disappointed though with them leaving as Paoli now take over the guitar and vox for live performance. hopefully that will be just temporary arrangement and hope to see him back to his drum throne again.
Have in mind that Francesco has written all the instruments parts for every album since Mafia in 2007 and also records them only by himself in the studio. Just, wow...

I like the Lonsdale shirt bro. I gotta say playing drums saved my life. I taught myself how to play drums. It all "clicked" one day while training on a boxing speed bag. I was a guitarist from age 5 to 18 then I bought a vintage 1972 custom Sonar kit. (Still play it daily at age 44) I still train on the speed bag too.

That man is a versatile god. Nailed the drums during his time with Swallow The Sun! It was bringing some interesting vibes. Wintersun, Rotten sound, Trees Of Eternity... all great stuff!

If possible, in the future i'd love a deeper insight to 'the oppression' or 'under black sails', but i don't think they have a live drum video of those anywhere? Anyway, thanks for this, absolutely loved it! As for future suggestions, tomas haake and kai hahto would be amazing to see at some point. Also, just to jump out of genre, buddy rich would be interesting.

Having seen them live twice, I can confidently say that even Paoli can't keep up with it. Band sounds good in the studio, pretty messy on stage.
I red somewhere that Francesco had car accident and had issues with his leg...that's why he stopped drumming and took a guitar instead.

That man is a versatile god. Nailed the drums during his time with Swallow The Sun! It was bringing some interesting vibes. Wintersun, Rotten sound, Trees Of Eternity... all great stuff!
Thank you, i've been looking forward to this! He is my absolute favourite, i mean his style is just interesting to me. If possible, in the future i'd love a deeper insight to 'the oppression' or 'under black sails', but i don't think they have a live drum video of those anywhere? Anyway, thanks for this, absolutely loved it!
As for future suggestions, tomas haake and kai hahto would be amazing to see at some point. Also, just to jump out of genre, buddy rich would be interesting.

Apparently Francesco had only been playing drums for about 2 years when this album was released? Would be amazing if true, because his speed is insane (Even with heel-toe).
He was playing drums in the band for 2 years at that point. I'd be surprised if they put someone on drums, who's never played them before
