I started playing in Shadows Over Innistrad, and while having a history teacher named Mr. Rutstein. I loved all of the flavor text about Old Rutstein then, and I love that he’s been given a card.
I like this commander a ton. Its benefits are subtle, its cost is low, and it can be built in multiple ways. A real treat. Also, your merchant if great.
I thought your impression was pretty good and you’re right, if you’ve played RE4 then the merchant was ALL you could think about when you saw this card 🤣
Two cards I'd recommend for Old Rutstein: 1. Crawling Infestation: Mill up to 3 cards in upkeep (1 from rutstein, optional 2 from Infestation), and the first time you mill a creature you get a 1/1 green insect Dollhouse of Horrors: 1 mana to copy a creature in your graveyard. Granted, it starts as a 1/1, and can only be done once per turn unless you untap Dollhouse, but their power is equal to your number of constructs. Seeing as how you'll be copying your stuff when you can. Plus, it means you get more ETB's, ans value from graveyard cards if you don't have recursion spells available
Rusty + any sort of ability doubler could be more dangerous than Scuteswarm. If he ha blue he'd be too powerful. As is I think he's a good way to revitalize some old Golgari abilities and other fun mill tricks and with Harness the Infinite we can even get Grave Tutors without running full reanimation. I think he could be a fun Golgari commander and more than warranted considering Sitckfingers was about the most interesting one out of the whole set so far as a Commander.
So yeah, my Nethroi, Apex of Death, will want this guy in the 99. Regular selfmill with upside and low power, so if i mill it i could easily bring it back with my commander. In addition to that, with the blood tokens, i can start discarding stuff that got bounced to my hand. So yeah, all upside for me.
think i might get this for my meren deck, milling and creating creature tokens i can use to sacrifice is definitely nice, and the other tokens are nice too
Man now I really want this to have a Godzilla-alternate version as the Merchant from RE4. If wizards not gonna give me that, Im gonna get my copy altered!😂
That merchant accent is just the devil’s kiss right there. I would love to see many variants of this merchant styled commandin’. I dunno why I said commandin’ for any reason… 😅
30 fun green cards 30 fun black cards and 39 lands just play magic no crazy combos or anything no dedicated strategy just a midrangey deck that is enjoyable
Gitrog would like this guy. Blood tokens allow land discard to draw extra with the bog frog.
My thoughts exactly
That Resident Evil 4 reference is spot on... I love it!!
I’m liking Crimson Vow way more than Midnight Hunt and I was hyped for the werewolves lol! Good day, Mitch!
Tell me you dont play standard without saying you dont play standard
@@discrespectlol3043 no shit sherlock. who would have thought that commander players visit a channel about commander.
Both of these sets have been awesome imo, lots of weird commanders that im all here for
If Mitch builds around Rutstein here, we need a Close Quarters episode where he has to do his Merchant impression whenever he casts his commander.
And now someone out there is going to Alter him as the merchant from RE, oh boy.

Great add to the 99 of Chatterfang
Mr. Mitch, that last attempt at the quote was your best!
I think you're the only one who thought of druids satchel with this card. Waste not is the obvious similarity
This would be an incredibly powerful commander if he could trigger off incidental mill and not just his own etb/upkeep trigger
The merchant impressions were spot on. I ❤ Resident Evil 4. That was game of the year for a reason!
Amazing impression!
Also this card is super fun and is the kind of Commander I like. Thanks for the pointers!!
I thought your impression was pretty good and you’re right, if you’ve played RE4 then the merchant was ALL you could think about when you saw this card 🤣
11:48. My lowest TCGPlayer market price is currently $2.10 for my Fifth Dawn and Commander 2014 printings.
I built an Old Rutstein deck after your video! And tbh is one of my favorite decks, it's just so fun to play
I love the reference Mitch 12/10 I think your impression was top tier

Hope you have a good day ya boys.
Legend says there will come a day when the Brigadier General tier will not be new
Seems good for my korvold land deck. Always gives me a thing to sac on attack or etb trigger and fills my graveyard.
That impression was a solid 8 out of 10
Oh this is SUCH a cool card!
I built a brawl deck on arena with old rutstein. He actually works really well as a commander
If only the card didn't say "this way". If it could trigger for every card you milled that would be so nice.
I wish he was a little better because I really want to play him. The art is awesome.
My first though was Chatterfang. Because squirrels.
Yeah, part of 99
I want to use this in the 99 of my getrog deck. The hole deck is built around milling my self to get lands and dreage spells in the grave.

Yep, you're going in my stickfingers arena brawl deck

I want to now build a Resident Evil 4 theme deck around this guy
So a golgari zombieish deck. Underrealm lich could be salazar 🤷♂️
It could have this effects whenever a creature make you mill cards... But the reference is good enough
think i might get this for my meren deck, milling and creating creature tokens i can use to sacrifice is definitely nice, and the other tokens are nice too
Hey, Old Stickfingers has a new old friend!
Just to make sure, Rutstein only triggers his effect from his mill, right?
Yes, as the states it gives the effect if the card was milled "this way" as in by his etb/upkeep trigger.
What if the re4 merchant is who I buy my singles from?
Man now I really want this to have a Godzilla-alternate version as the Merchant from RE4. If wizards not gonna give me that, Im gonna get my copy altered!😂
Goes well in my Kathril deck.
Got some good things on sale, stranger!
I'll buy it at a high price stranger! (Well not really but maybe it finds a home in the 99 of my Meren deck).
Practically a phyrexian arena for meren. Definitely slotting him in there
This Commander would fit well in my Muldrotha Deck
I think also Grist the hunger tide would be pretty decent with those insect tokens
I see this guy, I think academy manufacturer.
Think of all the token generation!
So many tokens!
Finally, an interesting Golgari card for my cube that isn't Sacrifice or good-stuff!
Love the resident evil 4 merchant reference
awesome video The Commander's Quarters. I shattered that thumbs up on your video. Keep up the very good work.
I will buy that for a dollar! (The Running Man)
Hi Mitch, do more impressions, thanks.
That merchant accent is just the devil’s kiss right there. I would love to see many variants of this merchant styled commandin’. I dunno why I said commandin’ for any reason… 😅
New auto include in Chatterfang...yay
If you've got dollar bills
Old Rutstein's got baller deals
The legend himself!!!!
Was really good actually.
Sucks it’s when milled this way not milled or something else like grisly salvage won’t work with it
Thank you for the resident evil reference
Nailed the impression
Rescue from the underworld is going to work well in this deck
Mill your own deck and have a shuffle titan. Welcome to 100 tokens.
Won't work. "Milled this way" not "whenever".
@@Zendrig I never said you can use any mill strategy. I said mill your whole deck and have a shuffle titan.
No comment on pan harmonic on?
yay more fun self-mill commanders!!
Old gnawbone, old stick fingers, old rutstein
Should have start the video with the merchant from RE4.😂
Since they gave us the merchant from resi 4 . Now they must give us The Duke for equal laughs. 😆
Might be a decent card for Grist
I wonder how this would work with Grismold
I'd play this in Tayam or Kathril (although no keywords), but it's not the best commander. One trigger per turn is not what I'd call "2021 value"
My first thought was Waste Not or the zombie Waste Not (don’t remember it’s name)
Is that all stranger?? Heheheheh...Thank you
30 fun green cards 30 fun black cards and 39 lands just play magic no crazy combos or anything no dedicated strategy just a midrangey deck that is enjoyable
yep, my favourite style of commander, just value good stuff.
Your impression is... acceptable.
Wizards be like "Hyehhyehhyeh you'll buy it at a high price"
I think I might put him in meren
This reminds me a lot of Waste Not
Hey Stranger...
Questa carta mi piace un sacco.
Resonator finally gets some love. It works with everything! Underrated.
Not first, but not last!
WUDDYA BOOAIIING?
Come back anytime! 🤭
Peasant tribal!
What are y'a sellin'?
First 😁
