Jake, I am so very happy --- really!--- that you got the "new" Hornet! When you and Yammie finished the red Hornet, i wrote him and suggested that he give you the bike as a gift. Obviously, he gave you the shaft instead. But Karma has rolled around, you're doing great with your own channel, and now you have the Unicorn you've always wanted. Hope it turns out to be a great bike for you! All the best, man. Continued success and happiness to you!

@@spitescorner What kind of fuel do you run in your bikes? Serious question. I'm wondering if you get the non-menthol gasoline. Bikes run like crap on regular 87 octane with methanol as much as 10%. I'm guessing you don't use non-methanol. IF you are not running non-methanol, I think you may be impressed at the difference it makes in how a bike will run. I'm sure it would help the Hornet.

The new cb-1000r black edition actually looks really nice and for around $12,000 it's a good bargain. My only gripe is, it's still low on HP compared to it's class. But it's probably why it's much cheaper.

Normally don't comment on videos but I can't help myself. Last year I bought a low mileage, completely stock 3003 Honda 919. I bought it because I always wanted one, and based on the great 919 videos on YM. It was in great condition, but needed deep clean and polish to bring it back to looking like new. No dings or dents, just dirty. I have been riding it quite a bit, but ended moving recently and lost garage space. I'm not kidding, I was about ready to list it, and then I saw this video. I was already dreading selling, so this video turned that around. I will really be looking for your updates. Great job with the channel!!!!

Up until last September when it was stolen, I had the 600 faired version of the Hornet for more or less exactly 20 years. The 600 is the same size as the 900 only the power is slightly less. The 600 handled like it was on rails and with a 4 into 1 pipe with the baffles out, it sounded majestic. The 600 engine was based on the late 90's CBR600 and the 900 was based on a detuned version of the 919 Fireblade. I had the UK version of CB600FS with a fairing and it was Cobalt Blue. Oh how I miss it, I felt alive when I rode it............

Now that is my kind of motorcycle! I love the styling, sound, exhaust placement, etc... I would take that over a lot of new motorcycles. A lot of new naked sport bikes could take some styling cues from the 2003-2007 years. It's a shame that you can't buy certain parts for it anymore.

I own an '04 silver one of these. It's a great bike. It's everything described in this video. I wish I had the stock exhausts as mine pop and burble too much off throttle for my liking. I'll revert it someday.

I had a 39 year break from riding. I’m 66 now and have been riding here in Alberta, Canada for 2 summers. Winter here is about 6 months long. Enjoying every ride. Took me some miles to and the toughest part was leaning in the corners. I’ve improved a lot and can comfortably ride a 1992 Suzuki GSX1100G. Love the bike and I share it with my son. I also have a 1982 CB900 Honda and really enjoy it. It’s more than fast enough for me and it’s really smooth and great in the corners. I was thinking about getting a 919 2006 Honda. I just sold my 636 and bought a Hornet yesterday. Custom paint, custom seat, bored out to 945 cc, custom exhaust, power commander, f4i forks and display (which is funny cause the tach says redline is 15k lol) and I got a great deal on it. I'm stoked, it's so torquey and really cozy. As much as I loved my Ninja, sometimes it's exhausting feeling like I'm qualifying every time you get on a bike for a casual cruise or commute. I don't ALWAYS feel like going 100 + MPH or 10k+ RPM but that's what sport bikes are made for, so I'm enjoying the change of pace with the Hornet.

Honestly so stoked you got another 919. And happy to hear you will not sell it, only if Mark's need it, it's there for him. Love that. I think they're cool motorcycles as well.
Never ridden one, might do so at some point. There should be quite a lot of them here still.
Loving the fact you are gonna make a series of it with modifications and enjoy the bike as well. Nowadays all you see around YT is newer bike stuff, and I like that but older bikes 70's,80's,90's,00's,10's and everything in between and after tend to be left alone but those are bikes collectors, enthusiasts or newer or even veteran riders buy as a first bike used, or a returning used bike for nostalgia reason and whatsoever.
Interesting as well, based on the specs of the Hornet it generates more torque then my Z750, but I do have a bit more hp. But mine does have a real nice mid punch. I wish you could ride one.
Not sure if the z800 or z900 are any close to specs or rideability with my 08 Z750, if so you might have ridden one already and now what I mean on how it rides.
Looking forward seeing more content on this!

i feel you man. I had an old Africa Twin, rd07, rebuild it to last bolt, just to took a hit from big rock to left side cover, which jammed one off the gear, and the crankshaft bearing hub and engine body got cracked... whole engine ruined in a simple bad luck. Last year was looking for something similar and found the rd04. Instant love. It is so nice to just go back to roots and enjoy all of it again. Wish you the best for 919

I'm currently looking at some used Hondas to consider as a first bike (mostly 600-750 cc class - I learned to ride and got my licence on a pretty tame 650cc naked from Yamaha) but man, diving into Hondas model numbers can be confusing. The fact that a CB600F and a CBF600 are totally different animals was confusing as hell to me ;p Most annoying aspect of finding a nice used bike so far? Used prices having gone up a lot in the past years (literally, a LOT) and choosing between either an affordable bike in decent condition or shelling out way too much for one with at least ABS and the likes is a brain breaker for a newb like myself. Old newb btw (34).

I bought a 2005 FZ1 (fuel injection). I would have bought a 919. If I could have found one!!! My preferences were: 1-919, 2-FZ1, 3-Bandit 1K-1200. But wanted fuel injection and water cooled, if possible. There was a SV6 nearby, but I wouldn't even look at it.
So glad you are now able to do the content you choose, the way you want!!! Bravo!

I've got an 04' in matte uranium green....lots of "tasteful" mods. The biggest one that addresses the "stink" is a CBR900RR header with a custom mid-pipe and single low exit exhaust. That also uncorks the top end a little bit by adding 7hp up top. I've got an adjustable Hagon mono shock on the rear and I custom mixed oil for the front forks( and dropped them 10mm through the triples) with uprated springs....now it rails quite nicely. The frame is the limitation now. Nice wide aftermaket bars too....with frame slider if I drop it to protect the unobtainable tank. It's a great bike, I love 919's too. I've got a ton more mods I haven't mentioned...

Lil' bro rides a HD V-Rod now and I love rockin' my Honda Monkey (lol) but we have plans for "Ol' Bessy".

the 919 stink. Mine was so bad that is ultimately why I sold it. I had put on some danmoto pipes and oh my god that made it so much worse. It was so bad that when I would come in my house I would have to strip off my riding gear and leave it in the garage to air out.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I've had my 06 since 2010 and still stock. Best bike I've ever owned. It will reside on display in my living room the day I can no longer ride it. Best bike ever. I would like to add that we have been lied to however. I just bought a new red tank from a shop also claiming to be the last one in the states for $900. OUCH. Another $600 to replace the fuel pump because the old tank rusted out. So be careful with replacements as someone is jacking up prices claiming extreme rarity. I was able to get rid of the rich gas smell by adding bags to my bike. It must change the airflow at the back because it's almost completely gone with them on. Big set of 3 Givi hard shell bags. Great review and like you, this bike changed my life and still makes me grin like a boy experiencing a first crush everytime I ride it.

This is a great video, something different. I wonder if you could start a new “interview “ type of segment on your channel? Where you find unique or iconic bikes and interview their owners? And maybe even score a test ride? Your easy going personality really seems like a good fit to get some interesting conversations going and could be something to diversify your videos in between regular reviews…

It's not slow at all with 81 kW and decent weight. And I'm saying that after two years on 08 Busa. You didn't even rev it during video, it pulls really nicely from 7 to 11k. Just returned from some twisties with it and I'm very very happy with it. Considering the price (2.3k) it's just marvel. Yes that smell is familiar 🙂Most upleasant thing about it is pretty abrupt change from closed to little pull. In second gear in tight turn it's disturbs line a bit.
