No, defense is not better in this era, but it is a hell of a lot harder to play in this era, Having to account for multiple ballhandlers and shooters from all over the court. The old era was mostly packing the paint, play the mid range, and daring them to beat you from outside. Try that in this era and you’re down by 30 at the half. It was easier to play with less skill sets to worry about
