    One of our most popular builds has returned! The Rotary shifter kart (powered by a Hercules W2000 wankel motor) had been in storage since the last video we did with it of hitting the top speed. The clutch had failed at the end of the video due to the clutch pushrod welding itself to the ball bearings and eating through the lever arm. We had found a hydraulic clutch on ebay for a Harley that had the same size diameter for the pushrod, and it ended up working better than we expected! We also changed the gearing to get us some better top speed!
    Thanks for watching, stay safe and stay tuned for the next video!

    Someone there really needs to learn how to TIG weld for all those small delicate jobs. I think they wil have issue with the short throw of the clutch pedal, the need a master cylinder that matches the slave in volume.

    Dont use car oil in a motorcycle engine. Use motorcycle specific mptor oil. Car oils have additives that are to slippery for wet clutches. Its not good for the clutch in the long run. Even some synthetic motorcycle oils arent good for wet clutches. Use a regular motorcycle oil. Like honda gn4 10w40 as an example

  • @performancebuilds1323
    @performancebuilds1323 3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    That clutch bearing is cooking itself because you have tension on it when you're not using the clutch. Just like on a motorcycle you always have a little slack in the clutch lever.

    The engine seems like it's running a little too lean, with the missing and blue flames. Could put an O2 sensor mount in the exhaust before the muffler to get some mixture measurements as you tune the carb. Tuning a carb is just make changes and see if it's better or worst.

    • @dereksumstad6746
      @dereksumstad6746 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      wouldn't flames out of the exhaust mean it's running rich? there's excess fuel that's not been burnt in the exhaust.

    • @Luminaring
      @Luminaring 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dereksumstad6746 The blue color is the concern for me. In a piston engine, a rich back fire has yellow in it. Now, I do know rotary exhaust temps are way higher than piston engine...so maybe a rotary running rich is Blue and not yellowish. We tune 2 strokes carbs by soldering the jet closed and drilling few to the next size bigger or smaller till it 'felt' better. Just my 2 cents.

    Your friction welding the ball bearings so they are constantly in contact, this is incorrect they should not be in contact under pressure long enough to weld, only when the clutch is depressed.If you set up the clutch to have free play as it should be (on all cable clutches) you will not get these problems plus you will not get slip and /or wear. I know this comment is late to the game, but you should avoid using car oil in that thing - use motorcycle oil since it has the right friction modifiers in it. Car oil is too slick and it'll cause the clutch to burn out - ask me how I know. You need an oil that has the JASO certification.

    Looks like an interesting build, what power is that engine putting out???
    Im tempted to do something similar, i have a kz450 race tuned bike and a spare gokart chassie i think would create an awesome death machine. The only reason i havnt built it yet is because ive no idea wtf id drive it. If i did do that engine in a gokart though id definitely buy a vw camper totrod body ive seen on ebay as i think a mini sized vw bus with 70hp and gears would be awesome to race against a real sized one.

    I'm not 100% sure, but the balls could be welded maybe because they were mounted the wrong order?? Other engines don't go in that way

    The camera is always blurry, not very good for the video. But the kart is really cool.

    should of mounted the clutch master cylinder on the frame in board and used a rod and linkage, the master cylinder and pipe will make a great crash bar.

    Would a freecoaster style hub from a bmx help with the rear axle and rolling in neutral/clutch engaged

    You should do some more work on the exhaust pipe system, put 2 snails and 2 performance exhausts, then it will reach the real power

    All fun and games until that front end pushes on those cold tires and polished concrete. Good times though. Not much like a shifter

    11:25 Is the kart dumped in 1st to start? Because it would be easier to start in 2nd or 3rd gear, and it would jerk as much put aside the driveline stress
