I think ns1 is very similar to a noise gate because it's removing anything like reverb which is sometimes weird. i think clarity vx did a great job because its removing only a noise that's the power of AI
Your going to need both a regular noise gate AND Ns1.. forget clarity vx... NS1 Is like a reverse noise gate... It starts strong (if you have a fan on) but gradually re-introduces noise (like a fan) if your not speaking into it.... So Its not exactly a noise gate, its kinda the opposite.... Its more of a voice activated denoiser. I personally put it on first if I have a fan on then add a light gate to where you can still hear my breaths. It kinda works like a gate in that it ONLY blocks background noise when it hears your voice... A regular gate blocks noise regardless until it hears your voice, but when a normal gate opens, you will hear the background noise.... So if you have parts in a song where your not speaking, the NS1 going to pick up that fan, but will kick in and get rid of the fan once your speaking.... As where a normal gate will block the fan noise until you speak into it, which will introduce the fan... SO you need BOTH. The normal gate should be very light so its not chopping your voice/breaths. I keep my settings between 50-60. Your welcome.
NS1 works better for my room, clarity vx still keeps the room characteristics. also use the preset for NS1 ambient room noise. it's def better than the default setting.
yeh getting rid of the room and adding your own reverb/delays right after is def the way to go since there are a ton of models for pro studios around the world.
thankyou for this. I was on the fence about what to buy but my main question was 'Why would waves release two plugins that basically do the same exact thing?" But you made clear as to how each plugin can be beneficial depending on the sound source. Thankyou
Thanks for doing this video! Noticed there was a Waves sale and I've got a podcast host with a slightly noisy signal, and I needed to decided which was the better fit. QUESTION: Would you put this before or after a vocal rider (I can't glue my hosts to their microphones, unfortunately). NS1 in the untreated room sounded more just like a classic noise gate to me.
I noticed that Clarity Vx for the Bass, you had it cranked all the way up. Did you try it lower and see if it picks up the bass and maintained clarity? I tried it using a soundboard and noticed that even at 16 it removed background noise and picked up the soundboard stuff just fine. I'm getting more into audio and this kind of stuff so it would be interesting to know if it worked not cranked up all the way. Thanks.
Hey Czar thanks for the vid mate! As much as these plugins do a great job at removing background noise, I just think they are more suited for podcasts, voice overs etc.... For vocals these end up degrading the vocal takes.
@@AI-Consultant When tracking and recording vocals, you really need to eliminate any background noise the mic may pick up to begin with. In bedroom/home environments this is almost impossible so treating the room as much as you can and having a small portable mic booth/refection filter around the mic will help. And running your mic through an external gate/expander and set up correctly will really help. You will end up with an acceptable recording. And if you don't have access to an external gate/expander you can use a gate/expander plugin in post. Unfortunately there are no plugins on the market that will eliminate noise from a vocal without degrading the recording. Even used subtly it will still degrade to some degree though may still be acceptable. So I guess the answer to your question would be to achieve the best recording you can within your environment. These "de-noise" kind of plugins are not really suited for vocals. In some circumstances it may help when used in a subtle way though I wouldn't recommend them.
A yo Czar, I m having this problem...So I downloaded NS1 into Pro Tools 2022.4 and now it crashes with AAE 6009 error message...Say to configure focusrite, yet I have done all I know...ANY SUGGESTIONS
If you stack them like X+Z noice or just X noice then VX..you got one powerfull set of a filter chain. I do that and it works great to clean up hard noice..
the ambient room noise setting is super ez I use it after I'm done recording all my tracks. then I hit em with the pro studio reverbs/delays sounds super pro bc you eliminate all room characteristics like you're in a pro vocal booth.
I also use spiff mouth click setting to get rid of the clicks and pops works way better than anything out there I have isotope and waves and spiff handles the clicks and pops so much better. Also spiff treble reduction is great too but I change the default setting from 3 to .5 because it is super OP.
@@DRINOMAN That Spiff plugin is a pretty penny sheeeesh but looks like I'm about to start saving for it. Never heard of it before. Thanks for the info 🙏
@@servHis221 you won't regret it like you know the lip smacking sounds and the hifidelity crackles usually due to the little tiny bubbles popping or swallowing, it'll get rid of those sounds. here's a little demo some guy made. th-cam.com/video/USVJaKhXm2o/w-d-xo.html
yes this is how you would take advantage of NS1 I use UAD reverbs they sound a lot better or even the chorus stuff but yeh NS1 is better imo because you're emulating a vocal recorded in a booth. when I used clarity the room characteristic was still there.
Whats up Czar! I have a question. Have studio one 5 (artist version) and ofcourse I bought me the claritx vx. This pluging is too cpu heavy. Is there a way to render my audio tracks after I using this plugin? Thx! Great video and Thumps up!
Yes... You can bounce it to a nee track or better yet, insert the clarity VX as an Event fx (you can do that by dragging and dropping while pressing the ALT key), then you can render the Event FX.
lol yeh I thought about that too the ambient noise setting on NS1 is super OP it literally deleted anything other than the vocal and keeps the vocal even the stuff in the vocal that sounds weird or unnatural like resonance or something it treats it.
If someone's problem is reverb go use blanket and let clarity vx handle the job to remove noise
I think ns1 is very similar to a noise gate because it's removing anything like reverb which is sometimes weird. i think clarity vx did a great job because its removing only a noise that's the power of AI
Clarity does not remove reverb because there is a Clarity DeVerb for that :)

@@DRINOMAN Look into a de-reverb plugin instead. You can get better results with something like RX De-Reverb for example.

Thank you !! I need to get rid of noise on my acoustic guitar recordings. I was debating which one would be best. Looks like the NS1 is for me.
Any thoughts about the WNS VS NS1?
Thanks for making this. Helped me decide on my purchase.
So Clarity VX for white noise on a vox would prob be good?

I'd experiment with both. But I'd remove what noise I could with EQ, and then apply ns1, some compression, then vocal Rider.

It does if u bump it up too much.

Clarity Vx is far better than NS1 at noise reduction, but NS1 can reduce noise from any audio, not just vocals like Clarity.
So basically get them both and you're good lol
not a fair comparisoms..lacking detail..exluded modes settingon waves, :(

Dude you didn't reset the vectorization of the neural network when you A, B'ed into Vx, man. That's why NS1 "did a better" job. Sigh.
It was the Clarity that did the better job in the first sample.
