    I recently helped a student carefully cut out a Kalle Dress upside down! The print was VERY directional , with large owls who would have been hanging upside down like bats!! The pattern cutting diagram did have all the pieces facing the same way, but we didn't notice which way we laid the fabric!! With some very careful piecing we managed to turn it around but it wasn't easy and it wouldn't have been possible if we didn't have a little extra yardage.

    I hadn't thought of doing a tie in the back to create some waist shape. That is a great idea. It might make me look slimmer too!! Thanks so much.

    I'm so glad you caught the problem while you could still complete the cardigan, albeit with an altered collar band. Phew! 😹😹😹 Maybe you will make the shawl collar version with another fabric one day, though this one is gorgeous. That decorative belt was genius. Thanks, Karina. 💚💚💚

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles I tend to agree re that look. To me (and it's just a personal thing) a cardie that lies flat but with inches open in the front just looks too small, as if the wearer "outgrew" it, but is wearing it anyway. Hah but that's just me. 😻😻😻

    Karina, please know that I am appreciating all your hard work in your videos. I've watched the "Make Easy Pants" videos and they are very helpful and informative and I'll bet the videos were not easy to make. I am learning so much from you; such as your pinning method which looks like it would save time and be very efficient. All those little things you mention while explaining a technique matter quite a bit. Thanks so much for being my sewing mentor.

    I just love all your details! I truly learn something from every one of your videos! My thoughts an leopard print match yours exactly! 😁 Your cardigan turned out lovely! I love having the tie tied in back like that, too. And I also love how you style all your clothes! I'm still at the stage where I have a bunch of pieces, but not a lot of matching possibilities. But I'm having fun learning and sewing random pieces. Soon enough there will be more matches. 😊P.S. Thank you for the pants series! I can only imagine....!

    It is so wonderful to hear that you make mistakes, but instead of putting the garment aside or getting rid of it, you find a way to save. Many times, mistakes bring about great garments that are unique and marvelous. Kudos for you. Your cardigan is very elegant and you look lovely in it. I ordered a couple of Love Notions patterns through your affiliate link (I hope). They don't say affiliate when ordering. I asked them in an email, but received no response. I hope you receive what is owed to you. If it weren't for your vlogs, I would not have known about this pattern company In fact, I would not have given a second glance to several of the companies that you use. Thank you for your consideration of pros and cons to each pattern that you work with. It is most helpful.

      One more question about your affiliate link. If I click on the link under your video, does this apply only to the featured pattern? Or if I purchase more patterns from the company do you receive your percentage? I would like to purchase several that you have sewn, but would prefer to purchase all at once. Thank you.

    Do you have a suggestion for how much to size up for making this out of polar fleece? I live in a cold climate and that would be so cozy with the hood 💚

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d size up one size. Polar fleece does not really stretch so I’d be careful and cut the band longer so you don’t have to stretch it.

    Hi i watch you a lot the only comment other than I have learned a lot from you. i do not want to have to try and print off patterns on my computer do you ever use patterns that are not the kind that you have to print yourself

    • @denisedorsey2889
      @denisedorsey2889 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katherine McBride There is a benefit to printing off these patterns. They come with very clear instructions and even videos for the trickier bits. The independent pattern companies are quite responsive if you are having any trouble. If you don't want to (or can't) print from home and tape it together there is usually an option to take the file to a print shop and have it printed on large paper. Some independent pattern companies also offer the patterns in envelopes. (Tilley and the Buttons is one). I find the indie patterns to have easy to follow instructions and pictures. They usually offer several different options for a look and you'll find others who "hack" the pattern and share what/how they've done it. I know Karina has sewn garments using Big 4 patterns. I find them more difficult to follow but I am new to sewing. The great thing about watching Karina's videos is that you'll learn something in every one. Good luck with your sewing!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katherine. I live in Brazil and the only patterns available to me are the ones I print myself. I don not have access to paper patterns and only have a few that have been sent to me by friends (Commercial patterns). The bulk of my sewing is using indie patterns. I don't mind printing and they can also be sent to a printing service . These files come in large paper format too.

    What kind of seam finish would you recommend for those of us who don't have a serger? I do have an overlocking stretch stitch on my sewing machine. Should I go around each piece with that first and then stitch if the machine does not eat the fabric when it is a single layer? Other ideas?
    Tky so much

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve always just used a zig zag when I don’t have a serger. It’s uses less thread and it’s faster. You need to practice different settings on scraps first.
