I'll give this a try. I really enjoy Arnamurchan, especially The Midgie and the delicious Sherry Cask Edition (sipping a glass now actually) and this sounds interesting. Thanks Geoff.
Still haven't opened mine but I will do so in the summer! Great that you got around to this one Geoff! Cheers 🥃🥃 Ps: Still waiting on that "Top 10 whiskys a pterodactyl would enjoy"🤓
Perfect timing! I'm not finished with New Years celebrations and since the supply of refreshments needs replenishing, I appreciate the recommendation. I'm joking, it's time for breakfast. Happy New Year, I hope 2025 sees whisky prices drop, new offerings offered, and my blood tests continue to give my liver two thumbs up. Oh, and peace on Earth etc etc. PS. Your patois needs a bit of work to pass as a yard man, but good effort!
I am finishing a bottle of their cask strength 02.22, such a beautiful whisky, and have this rum cask waiting to be opened. Thanks for the review Geoff!!
This was my whisky of the year for 2024 (from bottles I opened during the year). It is spectacular as a boilermaker with a stout (that id sipped alongside). I'm contemplating buying another bottle but there are so many Ardnamurchan's to try!
In Oregon we are not spoiled when it comes to Ardnamurchan. Aside from the standard release (which I love, and I’m at the second bottle), the only other one is called “The Ardnamerica Tour Bottling “. It’s a cask strength matured in madeira and sherry. Normally, with this type of maturation , I was afraid the whisky might be too heavy , not to mention that these type of releases are also very young. But you know, they’re Ardnamurchan! Somehow they make it work. It’s not something that I go for every day, but it’s delicious!
I know all about having to wait for new releases. Still waiting for the Ardnahoe to show up here. I have yet to try an Ardnamurchan that I didn't like. I like this one, but I prefer other Ardnamurchans. I think, as you said, it doesn't seem as settled as their other whiskies. I paid $115.99 NZD for it, approx. $65 USD. Happy New Year! 🥃
It's hard waiting for the bottles to make their way here to NZ but at least we get to hear others thoughts and reviews before they get here :) I've got quite a few on my wishlist already
Hi Geoff, nice review. Did not have an Ardnamurchan so far. Do you think I should try them out? I do like rum finishes in general, so maybe this one? Though you stated the Oban is better.
Nice one Geoff! I do like peat and rum together but this one was one of the worst whiskies I've tried in 2024. It just felt too sharp and took away from the character of the Ardnamurchan for me. Thankfully though there are so many other good Ardnamurchans out there to keep me company 😃 Cheers 🥃
I'm an Ardnamurchan fanboy without excuse. I think you explained what I didn't go for with this release however... it is a bit too young for the cask type and finish too short. Rums can be so different so the rum cask is always a bit of an enigma. I just need batch 2 of the Madeira release.
Did you check the QR code to give you the full breakdown of casks? On the topic of "am I allowed to do a Jamaican accent?" the answer can be found in the rap artist MdotR's music video for his smash song "Turn Red."
I didn't tried any of Ardna Expression, but has tried very few Rum cask(those are Budget/ Basic Level) , I had never found one single Scotch finished or matured in rum cask that I like... Like Raymond Candler says There is no bad whiskey. There are only some whiskeys that aren't as good as others
Ya Man sounds the same like "Ja Mann" in German and does probaly mean the same. To end 2024 we had Yggdrasil from Bifrost Distillety in the North of Norway. It was just coasty coasty coasty. Worth a try! Best whishes from Saxony for 2025
This Ardnamurchan is tasty and good Albiet a bit young but it works well… however the Talisker 8 rum cask special release from 2020 is a far more delicious experience imo… Cheers 🥃
This is not whisky matured for 3 years in a rum cask but a finished one given 2.5 years. Won't buy finished whisky again as I have been disappointed too often by active casks eclipsing the distillate with poor results. Shame really as the AD, Cask Strength & Sherry matured expressions are all excellent.
Will be on the lookout for this one and will definitely give it a try!
Thanks for the review Geoff!
I still haven’t found a rum cask influence that I like but I’ll keep giving them a shot.
They have so many different finished whiskey. Pretty cool. But i haven't tried any of them. Thanks for review

I have 4 bottles of this. My favorite AD so far 😊

Happy new year Geoff!!
So much for Dry January!

Glad to hear you connected with it! 🥃

I've heard a lot of good things about that Ardnamerica bottling! 🥃

Hi Simonne, I've read that NZ will not be getting the Ardnahoe 5 inaugural, only later releases, perhaps starting with the Infinite Loch.
@@jbar6284 Wow, that's surprising considering it was such a big release. Might just have to settle for the Infinite Loch when it gets here.
@@haydenhewitt9427 I agree. At least we know ahead of time which ones are worth picking up. I've got a few on my wishlist too.
I like rum casks, but I feel like they truly shine in heavily peated whiskies where the earthy peat and rum funk bolster each other
Had the 10 year old from these guy… absolutely blinding! Love the cask strength also. I’ve not had the Rum cask but it’s on the list.
Yeah the 10 is a banger. Unfortunately I've only had a sample. Hoping we get it in Taiwan before 2030. 🤞

Hah well I seem to like it a bit more than you, but I agree it's one of their weaker offerings. Cheers! 🥃
You know me. "Not that". 'nough said.

Actually looked up that video and watched it. Quitting TH-cam to pursue a reggae career now. Cheers mon. 🥃

I always give whiskeys a extra point because they are non chilled filtered and natural colour
Ardnamatchin = Yummy usually
ya mon 😂
My guy casually throws out Paul Lanois with a full on French affectation, but then comes at us with ACK-wuh. Classic Gee-OFF...
Finally someone pronouncing my name correctly...
HNY2025! The only AD I did not enjoy. Personally I prefer the AD Madeira or Paul Lanois cask finish bottles.
Happy New Year. Agree... all those releases are better than this one. Cheers! 🥃
