Welcome to Part 5 of this video series where we head down to TuneLab Racing for the final tune. The civic is running a Haltech, and what better place to be than on the Haltech dyno!
I have a built D16, but when I was stock internals, with 0.50 over Vitara pistons, T28 Turbo, 510cc injectors, I managed 260whp, one pass at 11psi than we dropped it to 250whp, hold for a year no problems, dropped the engine to built it stronger, Speed factory rods. Now I managed 400whp, T3T4 Turbo Maxspeeding rod. Best time so far at the track 12.4 on slicks is a street car. Congratulations on your numbers, m8 181whp is really good. I'm from Costa Rica
Thanks for watching from Costa Rica! Yes i'm over the moon with the outcome. Our dynos in australia read much lower than what we normally observe from America. I don't know why it's the case but i have a feeling it's to do with dyno setup. In Australia with 400whp you would break into 11s on slicks. My own B18 turbo civic 300hp on slicks ran a 12.0 @118mph with ignition breakup. I'd be keen to see what this would run at the strip. Might have to try!
Thanks for watching Clay :) We are on! I'd have to turn it up though haha Is your EG built? I watched the video a long, long time ago (of the grey one)
Yeah sort mine out next I already got the haltech ecu and it makes 98kw she's getting the head rebuilt after two years off it being thrashed now all she needs is a turbo to top it all off
Probably want to switch over to a mac boost controller rather than a manual boost controller. Burton racing out of the US has a relatively inexpensive boost by gear kit that uses that controller as well.
Fernando is the GOAT!!!💛💛💛💛 he is the only guy I wanna talk to at haltech when ever I call up, car sounds great, it’s funny reading all the d series turbo guys in the USA that somehow think they can make 400-600 hp in a d16 with a bolt on kit
Thank you Our dyno in Australia are quite conservative. I believe they are more accurate. It will be good to see how much power it will make on dyno in other countries.
@@JCYT ok,mais ça me semble assez éloigné de plus de 200. là tu sors 180,je veux bien croire que le banc te retire une dizaine de cv,mias de là à atteindre 220 ou 240cv,j'en suis pas sur.
Thanks for the feedback! Honestly couldn't have asked for a better outcome. No we were not able to due to the dump pipe design. While i can definitely make it fit, i am cautious an AC compatible design may hurt performance. But i think i will make it fit - probably end of the year
Boost creep will be manifold to wastegate flow design. I’m guessing the entry to the gate is poorly designed. But hey it’s not a bad thing for traction as you say. Wire and plumb in a Mac valve and you can use to haltech to flatten out that boost curve. (Less duty at higher RPM more at lower)
The mac valve idea was definitely discussed but it doesn't change that we can't run lower boost. That said after the last trackday, i really don't think we need lower boost! It'd definitely be nice to have better boost control though. I run the mac setup in the RX-7 works a charm
So this just helped me make my decision for my 81 civic. It's getting a k swap. I ain't about those tiny numbers. But the build is excellent anyway my man, props to you!
Hahaha no problem. Thanks for watching anyway. After you spend the 15k+ for a standard kswap you'll still be 10k more out of pocket with tiny numbers. A kswap with simple engine upgrades VTC, type R cam etc will still only make 150kw. I've been there done that. Built my k24 EK from the ground up
@@JCYT I can totally understand your build, but I just want power. But no disrespect to it, and I apologize if it came off that way. I've been trying to do as much research as possible on Honda engines, and for what I want, I need a k swap anyway (unless they make awd trans for d series?). If I had it my way it would be a 4g63t(I cut my teeth on them), but parts are hard to find for them now, much less complete drive trains. Still, sick build man. I have a d series that came with my 81 that might end up in my roomies 76 civic so 🤷
It's great! No issues at all It holds boost all the way and continues to creep. Check out the dyno graphs and a bit of an analysis at the end of the video
Hey mate thanks for watching! The turbo kit itself was only 2300 which should get it bolted in and running on factory ECU/fuel system etc. However once you add a Haltech, fuel system and misc bits you're probably looking at close to 4000. Not bad still!
Yes it's something we definitely noticed. Both cars have engine mounts in good condition - looking into a firmer mount. Ideally not solid to reduce vibration. Still street cars!
Yes the rods are definitely very thin. Have to be extremely conservatively and torque limit to "save the engine" However, i believe it's only a matter of time on the stock rods
1 like and ill chop chows civic in the Skoda!
No sweat

Y8 of Y7?
what size turbo?
Sounds amazing! Killer dyno video 🔥
Thanks mate!
D series! I’m an old man, I appreciate this.
Thanks for letting me know!
Have you had D series?
@JCYT oh I've had quite a few my friend.
Who wants to see EK2RS vs Skoda vRS?
Wednesday night drags!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell ya
Great series Jono! Keen to see this thing rip a few laps at Honda nationals!
Thanks Matt!
I don't think we'll be there but will be there for the D series Cup Round 3 in Aug!
*_The underdog 🔥_*
Love seeing other Turbo D series being built! Looks like a fun build!
We gotta drag race my NA K20 EG with your Turbo D16 EK!😍
Will be a D series cup event at winton August 25th
Thanks for watching Clay :)
We are on!
I'd have to turn it up though haha
Is your EG built? I watched the video a long, long time ago (of the grey one)
That's solid power for a D. Be interesting to see how this goes up against a k24 civic. Good work man
For sure can't wait to race one!
Good results !!
Thank you!

I would advice to run a closed loop catch can because running a blow through oil catch can is essentially creating a vacuum/boost leak
We were on the dyno at this point and this is in no way a vacuum leak
Wheelspec and tiresize? Love the look of the car!
Thanks dude!

Hi mate
Yes agreed, it was definitely discussed and will probably have one installed later this year.

This is awesome! What a way to round off the build series - were you able to run AC in the end using this setup?

I’ll keep my h22a but it’s cool. Except for an 800 dollar turbo on a cheap manifold that will certainly limit you

I'm quite satisfied with the setup.

@@JCYT it will just allow you to run a consistent (flat) boost curve if that’s what you are after. All depends on traction.
