    I don't know for certain that this story is true, but from what I've heard, back in the day, during the development of Battle Chess, the development team got really annoyed by management's constant need to make even tiny changes on absolutely everything, just to feel like they were part of the thing. At one point they developed an animation for a piece that was so good they didn't want any kind of change to be made, so they came up with a brilliant plan: they added a duck annoyingly flying around - but not ever actually blocking the good animation - and during the meeting, sure enough, they got something along the lines of, "Perfect! Perfect, just get rid of the duck!"
    It has been proposed that developers ought to learn from this, and add "ducks" in such situations.

      This is what people used to do to in Hollywood to get around sensors for movies. They would put in things into scenes that were egregious, so that when censors demanded something be cut, the director could appease them by cutting the exaggerated footage. This would make the censors more likely to then approve the remaining footage that the director actually wanted to keep.

    I know this is obvious but aside from initial funding, investors are the least important part of any project. If they have half a braincell they know this and will put money into a project or team they have faith in and will shut their stupid mouth and let the professionals do their damned job. I think I can explain what happened with crypto. Bitcoin became popular because it was used on the Silk Road: to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, look it up. All that money was enough to make the price rise, which brought in speculators, which made it rise further, and so Bitcoin developed a bubble. But without the Silk Road Bitcoin doesn't have a use case, so the bubble is in the process of bursting. Most of the other crypto people are basically in a cargo cult. They don't understand why Bitcoin was successful, but they're still trying to replicate it. They are making the same movements with their arms and noises with their mouths, but the damn airdrop just won't come back.

      There's also Ethereum, which is trying to, like, actually _improve_ on the tech...but is also deeply mired in the culture of grift that grew up around bitcoin, which is itself a reflection of the Move Fast Break Things logic that most big tech operates on. Whether or not the stuff is _useful_ is secondary to whether you can find a way to be the next Apple, because these people don't understand that Apple's biggest successes came from making useful tech.

    The Blazing Saddles one isn't even the best moment of Mel Brooks just being the GOAT when it comes to dealing with suits. The best moment would be when he was the (uncredited, since he didn't want people expecting a comedy) executive producer for The Elephant Man, and showed a working cut of the film to Paramount suits who then presented a list of dumbass changes they wanted. Mel's response:
    "We are involved in a business venture. We screened the film for you, to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Do not misconstrue this as our soliciting the input of raging primitives."
    David Lynch famously doesn't like working with big studios (especially after how horrible making Dune was), but he's always talked fondly of Mel because of just how good of a producer Mel was, a notable example being how Lynch tells of how his contract for The Elephant Man didn't give him the final cut of the film but Mel got him the final cut anyway.

    Demon Souls, in a way, is an Oblivion. It’s just instead of copying the thing you’d normally copy when doing an Oblivion clone they copied the fatigue based press attack button an direction combat system of Oblivion and actually made it good. It does seem though that FromSoftware is slowly working their way towards making their own “Elder Scrolls but good” game. They started with the combat system, then they made all the levels interconnected in Dark Souls, then they got to a giant open world in Elden Ring, next they just gotta add some towns in their.

Although I can generally complain about the same things for a number of japanese companies (since a number do the same thing), it seems like Western Companies needs that as a lesson since so many seem more 'invested' in their investors, producers, and stockholders rather than proper/good development.

The people complaining "I'm only in this rank because the game favors low skill players" absolutely do sound a lot like people who say "I'm only at this job because this country favors foreigners."

      It is a fact that immigrants will take lower pay and corporations will pay people as little as possible, thus they will take jobs from existing citizens

    • @ryanbacker4870
      @ryanbacker4870 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@bishopspechulure9821 this is a generalization of how immigrant labor works.
      When it comes to immigrant labor in America at the least (although I'm fairly certain this applies to most "western" nations) the most likely people for an immigrant to steal the job of is ANOTHER immigrant. Asylum seekers, refugees, etc tend to work in some of the lowest paying jobs that the average american citizen just won't do. SEVENTY PERCENT of farm workers in the U.S. are foreign born, compare that to truck driving in which seventy percent of the work force is white and you'll see that work in America is heavily segregated not just coincidentally but often intentionally as it is in many countries.
      It's statistically rare for an immigrant to take a job from an existing natural born citizens because they're doing different jobs. If you get your job "stolen" by an immigrant then it probably wasn't a very well paying job to begin with, and either way you should get mad at the person firing you and not the immigrant.

      Difference is, people compete in games for fun. People are forced to compete at work. If there was an option for "zero challenge, low-effort guaranteed moderately-satisfying work with no competition" most people would take it, so bitching about the "game" you are forced to play becoming harder and more competitive is legitimate

    This reminds me of my final year in highschool. I went to an alternative school, they would make everyone do a project and give a lecture at the end of the year. First year I went "I want to make a game" and they went "Sure, you like to make games, go for it" so I made a game. Second year I went "I want to make a game" and they went "Sure, it went alright last year, go for it" and I iterated on the game I made. Third year I went "I want to make a game" and they went "No, you've made games twice in a row now, do something else". We had a back and forth, finally I go "Fine, I'll do it on something else I love, Lying" and they went "Uhh... Alright, fine we guess."
    Across that whole school year I spent maybe 15 minutes "working" on my project and lecture. Every few months they'd be like "Hey, how is this going" and I'd throw something together in 5 minutes and send it off and they'd go "Alright, keep it up, don't forget this is the date to turn it in by" and I'd go "Got it".
    It's the end of the school year. It's about 10 at night, day before the presentations are supposed to be given. It's a whole big event everyone's participating in, not just some small lecture in front of a class or whatever. My mom gets a call from one of my teachers going "Your kid hasn't sent in his thing yet". She finds me in the kitchen and asks me what's up with the project and I go "Oh, I told them I'd do a project on lying, but it doesn't exist."
    On the one hand, she loves it because that's exactly something I'd do to them. On the other hand she's PISSED because, well you know why. It's a bit of a mess for the school because they're all freaking out and I'm like "Man I don't know what you expected, should've let me do what I wanted from the start, Idgaf about any of this". TL:DR, I get sent to my step-dad's house, he runs me through the basics on putting a presentation together, we spend maybe 2 hours putting it together and I'm sandbagging it the whole way through.
    Skip forward to the next night. I'm at the school, I hand over the presentation, they ask me to go on stage and do some mock runs. I refuse because that's stupid to me, I already know what it's about and everything in it and what I'm gonna say, and I don't have a script anyway. They get annoyed and I shrug and go click through the slides while I'm on the stage to make sure it's working. A few hours later the kids are giving their presentations and my turn comes up.
    I go up, I give a killer presentation first try, no practice or anything, then I hit Next Slide while I'm on my last slide, it moves to the first slide of whoever's project was next. I look up at the screen, try to go back for a bit, then look out at the crowd and shrug and go "That's not mine, my bad" and walk off to applause and laughter. The teachers come up and they're both happy that everything was well received and PISSED that nothing went wrong so they can't tell me off.
    -
    Anyway, the school my younger siblings were going to was doing a talent show that same night and about 10 minutes after I gave my presentation I asked my school if I could go leave to catch their segment and they were like "Yes. Just go." so we booked it and then missed it by 3 minutes. RIP. Also I'm pretty sure I'm single handedly responsible for making sure every other kid in the years after me will now have someone else watching their yearly project like a hawk, lmao.

      Only thing I'd try to change if I could go back in time is that I'd try to ask to leave right after the presentation so we could've caught my siblings' part in their talent show.

    This is absolutely ridiculous entitled behavior.Just because you invest money you think you can just boss people around. If you have no trust or have issues in how the business is currently doing things why the hell did you invest in the first place.Can you imagine in any other field you go up to like an engineer,doctor,or like a firefighter and just start throwing unsolicited advice that at best might just be a nitpick and at worst they have no idea about the topic and is completely out of touch with reality.

    • @TehNoobiness
      @TehNoobiness 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's deeper than that. They think that, because they have money, they're _smarter than everyone under them._ Because that's what capitalism says! You only get to keep money if you're smart! If you're dumb you lose money (except that when _I_ lose money it's because the dumb idiots under me wouldn't listen to me, or got it wrong, or sabotaged me, or because gamers are too entitled to pay 90 dollars for my AAAA game...)
      It's what happens when someone starts from "I'm right" and comes up with an excuse for it, really, which is why you're 100% correct in calling it entitled behavior. Investors think they're the bestest smartest most awesome businesspeople in the world 'cuz they inherited a billion dollars from Daddy, and you'd have to lose a million every year for one hundred years to run out of one billion dollars.
