Somniloquy (Music Video) - A Universe Within (aka Patterns) - (2010)

Written, Recorded, and Filmed ourselves in 2010 with my primary group A Universe Within, who was known as Patterns at that time. We were active from 2010 to 2015 and we changed our name to A Universe Within in 2012 when we started our 2nd album and went into the genre of long-form progressive metal and stuck with that genre for another album, until we shifted back to the more mainstream area with complex writing at the end of our tenure in 2015.
I, (Guy/JJ), handled the instrumental recordings, as I had recorded the instrumentals for this album prior to the band assembling and then the lead vocalist, Josh, and I recorded all of our vocal parts later on. I also handled the recording engineering and production, as well as in this instance, the video production for the music video, as we were a completely DIY band for the entire tenure of our existence. In this video, I am on the left as the guitarist and clean singer.
At first, a lot of our friends and fans didn't quite get the message of the video, but the song was based on real life recurring nightmares and the inability to wake from them and/or insomnia caused by fear of falling asleep, thus this song being a somniloquy or sleep talking experience of the nightmares.
Being a DIY band, we did this video on a cheap 480p Flip camera and I edited the video in Final Cut to add a grainy and low quality effect to help cancel out the fact we were using a cheap camera that our vocalist owned. We spent all of our money on music equipment and never thought to invest in video equipment!
and Yes, I know our drummer, Drew, is not always on time with his drumming in the song. Lol. This video was shot when he literally had just joined the group, so he only knew about half of the song, but we were on a major marketing push at the time and somewhat overly forced this video to go out on social media at the time.
Nonetheless, enjoy this track we used as the marketing track for our first album, The Chosen!
